Hey guys, I really need your opinion. So I recently got my SPM result and I failed my Add Maths For SPM. I'm studying A Levels Maths currently and its all about the basics of Add Maths Form 4&5. My teacher called me to drop my A Level maths and change to other courses because she think I could not cope with what she was teaching in the classroom. Basically, I went to the admission office of the college and asked if I'm in this kind of situation, will the teacher teach me? And they said yes. But now after studying for 2months...I realize the teacher is not teaching and expect us to have basics for our 'Add Maths'. She keep on persuading me to drop Maths and had no effort in teaching me. She said even if I passed for AS, I cannot go further or I would fail in my A2...how??? Should I continue A Levels maths or drop it? But the future job that I really admire and wanted to do requires maths..I'm in a difficulty in choices now...any suggestions? Or is there anyone having the same situation as me and end up getting at least a B in A Level maths?

Seems like your teacher is right.

You should drop it.

At this level, you are supposed to be independent already instead of relying on the teacher.

Grow up and learn it yourself, tons of information on the internet, if not drop it.

Life isnt all that rosy and dreams don’t come true from just “wanting” it.

You need to work hard too if you want your dream job. If not, then drop it.

i once gave tutoring to my cousin in terms of math. i can give you some help but you need to put a whole lot of effort into it. although, why would you want to do something that you fail a subject in for your whole life in the future? and if you wanted to go that path, shouldn't you have put a whole lot of effort for improvement before spm?

do you hate maths? if you dont hate it but just suck at it atm then dont give up. study with your friends, ask other math teacher to teach you on stuff you are having difficulties. Go learn on the internet like Khan Academy, Youtube, etc there is a lot of resources you can find to help you understand easily..

Did you fail your SPM ad maths cos you didn't concentrate?

Or did you try your best and still failed?

If the latter then you probably don't have the aptitude for math and should go study / do something that doesn't need a strong mathematical background.

Why did you fail tho?
I mean like did you put an effort during SPM? If you fail because you didn't put an effort, like you can actually can do it but you didn't even try, you should go for this math A-level or whatever provided that you work really really hard

If you really can't do it, as in incapable of mastering the concept or whatever, you should find something that you good at?

i don't know i'm just saying though lmao

Do more exercise and tutorials until you memorize all the formula and steps. Practice makes perfect. If you are not willing to spend time to study yourself, then drop the subject better.

A level maths is much2 easier than add maths. It's just slightly harder than modern maths. If you got A for mod math, you should try doing A-level maths. But if can't even cope with mod maths, you better follow your teachers advice.

But further maths is a whole different world.

First ask yourself, what will you do after A-levels. Will you enroll in course that need high level of mathematical calculations? If no the drop it, you "failed" Ad Maths, not getting a B or C. And if you really want to, work extra hard and get help from fellow students, pick yourself up.

Huh,

SPM add math is very very easy compared to those calculus in higher study.

If you have trouble understanding, then it’s not for you.

Get A or B on the next Test and then you can proceed.

If I were you, I would try my best to learn it myself and if I have any questions I'll just make an appointment with the lecturer and if the lecturer tak nak entertain go learn from YouTube and math app ( the one that shows steps) jer. Mind you I got a D for add math and I'm studying cs right now which is full of math which I managed to pull through.

I didnt take add math for my SPM, but I took Math HL for my IB Diploma. Got 5 points out of 7 for the subject, so I'd say it's manageable TS, as long as you're willing to put extra work (I didnt, dats why I got the worst grade in my class).
+ I believe you can re-take your A-Level kan?

Go for it TS!

we all know msian education system is rote learning (memorizing all the way till ur degree) - remember stuffs till exam then forgets everything afterwards. but hey it works anyway.

so ur saying maths is difficult, could be ur not putting enough effort. our system has never thought us to LEARN TO UNDERSTAND, but rather REPETITIOUS EXERCISE to excel. doing those dumb add maths questions are repetitious.

having that said, its not really intelligence related, but more effort basis. if ur born dumb, put more effort still can get away with it

Advice is pointless.
U should ask yourself are u ready to push yourself to catch up.
U keep saying teacher don’t want guide me, everyone go so fast I cannot catch up.
All I can see is.. u are blaming others for your own problem. Lecturer don’t want guide you, etc etc

Do you want it bad enough? If you do then work for it. Don’t think oh what if I fail then, should I drop it now? But I want my dream job
Do you want it bad enough? If you do, just grind. Go take add maths tuition at night or whatever. Need sacrifice la. U think life is so easy?

Or.. u can just take the easy way out and drop it. Then don’t whine next time about u hate your job when it’s not eat u wanted.

Im taking AS this june, even though I got C for addmaths in spm, Im really fucked up for AS maths.
But in my case, I didnt really study, fuck around for 1 year, even failed maths in sem exam

Just because you failed in spm doesnt mean you cant score well, but you have to put hell lot of effort into it. A levels is all about how much effort you put in, you should know if you are a hardworking person. If not, just change course before its too late.

Work hard, dont be like me

I hate add maths. Gave up on it long time before spm.

you do know the passing mark for add math is like 15 out of 100 right?

if you dont get 85 and above, dont bother.

btw, i remember at my boarding school, most of us 95-100, cuz add maths if you know it properly, you cant get much wrong.

It’s ok, add Maths is not for everyone.

It’s not just maths, it’s like an exercise where you need to find where is the opening to attack / resolve the problem.

If you can learn it yourself and prove your ability to the teacher in your AS, then I'm sure they'll allow you to take it
You cannot expect teachers to teach you stuff that you're already supposed to know. It's unfair to everyone else because the class will be slowed down just because of you
You might consider attending tuition for add maths, or seeking help from your classmates, paying them if necessary

I wonder what did you get for your Modern Math in SPM..
Seriously I'm not trying to humiliate someone but it's NOT EASY TO FAIL YOUR SPM ADD MATH.
You are indeed a legend LOL.
If your future career isn't something related to Math, I would advise you to drop it and focus on other subjects, else u are the one struggling all the way and eventually end up with nothing.
