Hi guys/girls, just wondering if anyone had similar skin situation with me where it's extremely dry/sensitive (especially girls) after shower?

I've been using Dettol Shower Gel Original for the past 2+++++ years (can't remember when I started), never really noticed much issues but from time to time (especially if I have to had 3 showers daily), I noticed my skin drying up to the point where you can see all individual lines on palm, sometimes cracking.


Worst case happened was flaking. And I need to apply body lotion/moisturizer within 10 minutes from shower/hand washing with dettol. It didn't occured to me that the cause could be Dettol itself, as all the time I was thinking/blaming/suspecting it was due to the poor lotions/moistorizers, although I have tried so so so many brands.


I'm looking into alternative of body wash, but as I'm not sure yet if Dettol is the culprit, or due to the Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) ingredient. Currently on top of my head there's only a few skin-sensitive body wash brands I can think of, like

But all of them contains SLS... but I'm just wondering if it could be still worth a try, since it might be less Harsh compared to Dettol? Any comments are appreciated

Just use low pH shower gel like Johnson 5.5 or Dove and any anti-bacterial soap is more strong than these two and will damage your sensitive skin.

But the main problem is your skin after shower, forget any product like lotion, moisturizer because they a are mostly water-based. The solution is to use olive oil on your affected skin right after the bath, if the oil is too messy, try it at night before sleep and you will notice a huge difference in the next day. You can drink a couple of spoon of olive oil too to improve your skin, I suggest you research a bit about what olive oil can do to your skin.

All this on my experienced, because I gave up on any chemical product that not work.

I have been avoiding oil-based product as I felt that it's quite hard to manage. But using it at night sounds reasonable / less messy throughout the days

Actually, I do apply it to my hand, face and my hair. But I'm not wearing any make-up because I'm not a woman. If you work in an office with air cond just apply it before you go to work at home, the oil will just absorb to your skin pretty fast. Just compare it how long it will moisturize with your previous lotion/moisturizer.

Firstly, look away from any commercialized brands that you can find in any pharmacies.

Secondly, as we age it’s normal that our skin becomes dryer cause our body gets weaker. It’s worsen if you’re sitting under air-cond 8 hours a day & shower with hot water. So you need to apply moisturizers as you grow older, especially after shower.

Thirdly the soap that you should be looking for is called Castile soap. Castile is not a brand, it’s a type of soap that has been used for near 1000 years already. Try to do some research about it online first.

Not a girl, but I had bad experience with Johnson&Johnsons, just warning you. Skin also sensitive to certain soaps. Still trying to find something suitable.

If you can afford please go nearby pharmacy and look for a soapless cleanser/body face gel like Cetaphil, got many brands but a quite expensive, RM25-30 per 200-250ml.

Thanks all for the comments! I ended up with Dove Sensitive Skin Body Wash as a quick experiment and found that my problem gone away almost immediately. Dettol is really too harsh for my skin

Every people has different reaction towards skin products.
I have read shower gel is not good for dry skin, you have to opt for soap bar instead.

I'm using Dr.Bronner for my eczema skin for the past 1 year, you may want to try it. But there's no retail shop out there, have to purchase online. I only know there's 1 seller each in lelong and carousell.

Dr Bronners from US? That’s a castile soap.
I know retail shops that sells it, I know even more places that sells Castile soaps.

If those 2 locations isn't ideal for you, you can search around for castile soaps instead. Natural & organic shop should have it. I'm trying to get more retailers to carry my castile soap in their outlet too.

The SS15 outlet is along the same row as Starbucks, Pizza Hut, myNEWS.com shop.

No, I'm distributing another brand of castile soap. So Dr Bronners is somewhat my competitor. But I'm not 100% focused on castile like Dr Bronners. Most Malaysian aren't used to castile soap yet cause it's too watery & pricey if compared with commercialized soaps.

No doubt is really pricey, but only me using it in my family. So still ok, coz one bar can last me like 2 to 3 months.

There's a lot of handmade soap makers around too, too competitive lol. Lucky my bar soap is something different entirely.

Ya and too many like you said. So I just stick to what suits me.

My wife had very bad flaky skin to the point that it hurts by mere touching and it is mostly on her hand, around the knuckles area.

She started using argan and olive oil body soap from botaneco for the past 2 weeks and I can definitely see improvements. Maybe you can give it a try.

From what I know, most reviews are positive about it's effectiveness. Certain people don't like the smell though. So maybe Try to snift it before you buy.

Olive oil? where to buy those that can be applied on skin... been having extremely dry feet..
