maybe their strategy is do it slow and do it quietly
and once in a while some surprise
(which is not good in this era, plus its competitors are already so aggressively promoting already)

or perhaps it is our government who is trying to protect local e-wallets by surpressing  wechat wallet? (although i dont think so LOL)
*
Problem is, they're being too slow and too quiet, and that's not a good thing in the competition. They need awareness and something that will help them stay in the long run.

I'm also suspecting it's our government trying to protect local e wallets, but true or not, they gotta try and control the e wallet market here cuz it's getting too flooded and also encourage the society in going cashless and using e wallets.

I think that there are not many merchants under them yet. No point of doing promotions now if customer cannot finds place to spend. But I guess promotions will be real soon once they find any big merchant that are worthy to throw money.
*
Lacking merchants isn't an excuse, they can just come up with promotions with their current merchants, and they already have 2 available so far.

If you're talking about big merchant, there's KK mart, unless you don't consider them "big" enough.

i think WeChat Pay MY has their own Malaysian team instead of having Chinese team right

Yup, it's true.

That's why don't expect the same outcome like they have in China.

sweat.gif  sweat.gif u sure waving phones around Pump stations is good ideas?
*
It's probably fine, not like you're making phone calls beside a petrol pump which has many scientific blah blah blah about why it's dangerous to do that.

You should try looking up for an app called Setel, it's a new app for you to pay for your petrol just with your phone via the app, only available in selected Petronas stations for now. If waving phones around those pumps are dangerous, I guess such app won't allowed to be made right?

QUOTE(kclamtarc @ Aug 28 2018, 05:55 PM)
er... true also hahaha. i was thinking Kedai Mesra actually.
*
Boost already started doing that in a Shell station at JB fyi.

Finally its credited.

Same here lol, finally!

QUOTE(skty @ Aug 28 2018, 07:48 PM)
personally i dont think it's KK mart who is doing a promotion for BOOST.

it's BOOST that do promotion for KK mart. Using KK mart name to attract people to use the app to purchase item. And of course, KK mart name alone is not enough to attract people, so they throw MONEY (50% discount) on the spendings.

so i think BOOST is the only party that keep throwing money, those partners still get back full amount of their sales.
*
My mistake.

But either way, there should be a promotion.

i see. from merchants' point of view, this additional step will make them feel troublesome.
in terms of registration fee, any comparison between wechat pay and boost?
*
Previously, there was a charge to register for Wechat Pay, but after that they removed it lol, probably because others aren't charging for it.

Wow, so troublesome and lansi. They make themselves so strict and stringent like banks. No wonder only so few merchants signed up with them. They need to lower their expectations and do more work on their marketing and awareness campaign.
*
Do more work?

I remember somebody here mentioned before that their previous 'money packet campaign' was from HLB.

If that's true, then Tencent is indeed lansi and stingy.

You cannot blame them, it's was Chinese Govts PROHIBITED/RESTRICTED monies to oversea investments, rmb our JB Forest City project?
*
But isn't Wechat Pay more into business than investment?

If that's really the case with their govt, good luck then.

QUOTE(Xaser_3 @ Aug 29 2018, 11:13 AM)
Yes, do more work meaning put more effort in to their marketing and promotion to build customer awareness and also sign up more merchants.

I have a feeling that Tencent is indeed lansi and stingy. They are living on their past laurels and previous glory.
*
Seeing the current stage of Wechat Pay here, I believe they're gonna be more into expansion than promotion.

But they gotta loosen up their policies first.

but promotion and expansion go hand in hand. without promotion, expansion is difficult. if normal people like us know this simple rule, the team should know better.
*
True, but I'm still having doubts on their team.

QUOTE(Xaser_3 @ Aug 29 2018, 12:45 PM)
No, free money will take them so far and once the cash pot runs dry, so will the hype together along with it's user.

They should spent the money, giving some small incentives to the merchants so more would sign up and at the same time, put up more forms of advertising to go along with their list of friendly merchant's.
*
They would still need to give out free money to users no matter what, that's how our society works unfortunately.

That's the reason why Boost is leading the market cuz they burned a lot of money, and they will have to keep burning until they become mainstream.

No free money, no market for you.

Look, I appreciate free money, but have they forgotten their expansion?

Or do they know what's "expansion"?

Or they misunderstood the meaning of "expansion" as "relax"?

Maybe try Alipay? I don't know how it works for people outside China, but maybe you can try look it up.

Or maybe get a Unionpay debit card, works in China most of the times if they accept cards, I guess. icon_idea.gif

Yes, apparently HLB is the the local partner for Wechat Pay MY so I suppose the CS for it comes under their purview as well.
*
I see, that makes sense.

Got a bit confused for a second there.

Saw this outside 99 speedmart.

As usual...

Me: "Boleh pakai wicet tak?"

C: "Sekarang tak boleh, sistem ada problem"

Me: "Baru dapat ke?"

C: "Dah seminggu dah, boleh cuba kat kedai lain lah"

Me: "Okay" *poker face*

LOLz.....new tech implementation always scares the living daylight out of those cashiers. Is it really that terrifying of making a mistake and re-doing the transaction? What happened to practise makes perfection?
*
I think they haven't upgraded their POS system, probably still running on the old DOS unlike KK mart which is using Windows.

Local merchants mostly have a habit of sticking the sticker (accepting e wallet) outside the store but they haven't got everything ready yet.

QUOTE(wilson1stop @ Sep 1 2018, 06:55 PM)
haha, Alipay and Wechat Pay is widely accepted in Thailands...
*
Only for mainland Chinese people though.

QUOTE(john123x @ Sep 1 2018, 07:01 PM)
if Speedmart99 accept wechat pay, then its a game changer. It easily defeats Boost without throwing much money around.
*
I beg to differ, Boost is still more superior than Wechat Pay currently, don't forget the shake rewards as well.

QRpay is very common, you can pay for tuktuk or meals also...
*
Really? Didn't know they accept THB now.

Hopefully next time can use it to pay for stuffs when in Bangkok.

I think it won't be a long wait for Boost to partner with 99, since they're pretty aggressive in expansion.
