Can't say it's a fraud or not, but isn't this kind of money packet game a common thing in China?

For me I wouldn't bother, cuz it's totally useless here.

Yes, Boost is doing good.
Well, China only has two e-wallets which I think is a good approach, hence they will focus on functionalities rather than building a half baked app and abandon it.
*
Well, I don't really support monopoly or duopoly (if I'm using the right word), competition is indeed good for the end consumers. But somehow I feel that when it comes to e wallets here, it's not really a good idea to have too much of them in the market, things are getting divided because of it, especially with merchants. Also, e wallet is still at it's infant stage here, so there's not much awareness, so when some people are willing to try using e wallets but chose the crappy ones (you know the ones I'm talking about without naming them), they will generalize and come up with the conclusion that e wallet is useless here when there are decent ones around.

China is definitely the best example when it comes to e wallets, there are only two major ones. You can either use one of them or use both, both are superior and everything is unified.

Well, I wasn't referring to the monopoly but more to building matured and useful e-wallets.

Malaysia has too many and some in BNM list, I haven't heard before..
*
I know, but what China doing is kinda close to monopoly, I dunno what happened there in the first place but I don't believe there were only Tencent and Alibaba who came up with the e wallet idea, for sure there were many who wanted to join the bandwagon to get their slice of pie on the market but seemed like the government stopped that from happening and controlled the market until there are only 2 major ones until now.

If that's true, I would prefer that way to be done here as well.

QUOTE(chanlman @ Aug 23 2018, 09:51 AM)
I liked this thought when local consumers demanding a matured platform. BNM allowing 30+ emoney issuers to operate eventually will make these companies act like local banks, to be regulated in every features, limitations on this and that.

Adoptions by small medium merchants will be the key of success, just look at China's wet markets, food stalls etc. Ewallet is a volume game, small values, high traffic, and easy to forget. Small biz owners cannot afford to have 5 or 6 QR codes at their stalls to keep track their income or sales. It's a nightmare if this is what BNM wants to achieve.

Unless BNM wants only the up-market E-wallet users to spend in places like convinient stores, shopping malls, restaurants, urban lifestyles etc. Only this big merchants can afford multiple terminals, scanners, consolidated POS and share benefits with emoney issuers.

I believed locals kind hearted people also wanted to help these small business owners, make their lives better, giving more emoney to stall owners, no small change needed, no receipt, just give, take and go. Hope more M'sian have same thoughts rather than thinking how I can be benefited from using E-wallet.
*
I'm having doubts on BNM by the way they enforce something, if they were good, there wouldn't be issues like merchants imposing minimum amount for card payments. They provided a solution to report the merchants, but it doesn't help much but giving hassle to those who really wanna report, and those who wanna report will choose to give up instead because it's a waste of time.

Also, it's hard to change the mindset of the majority when they're heavy reliant on cash. Most here will only try out something when there's hype or benefits, if you've seen the discussion thread for Boost in Kopitiam section, you will notice that 8/10 of the discussions are just about the cashback, that's the example of how the society thinks. Surely, I can't generalize by just judging on one discussion thread, but it's true.

Wow! 3 days is like cheque clearing. Taking too long. They should try and make it max 1 day or the best would be like instant transfer.
*
Not necessarily 3 days lah, it's just within 3 days.

Sometimes it could take as quick as 1 day if I'm not wrong.

Wechat success in China which mindset of CASH IS KING because og ANGPAO given...
Now same happening in Malaysia versions, if they wanna become biggest e-wallet in here.

So I'm guessing those other wallets also need to offers some promos or cashback to attractive users, only then Merchants will INTERESTED to adopt the gateway.
*
Like someone said before, the one with the deepest pocket will be the winner.

Boost has burned a lot of money from their cashbacks and promotions, and now they're leading the e wallet market, although it's still not that mainstream yet. Since their 50% cashback promotion is ending next week, hope they will have something more attractive to keep the hype going.

Wechat should do the same as well, Tencent has tons of money so it shouldn't be a problem.

Anybody knows if topping up to Hotlink will help pay your Maxis postpaid bill? Wanted to redeem the RM2 top-up hahah
*
QUOTE(wilson1stop @ Aug 23 2018, 12:53 PM)
Wechat only can topup prepaid with RM2 offset if you've claimed, but TnG and Boost can pay Postpaid.
*
Currently, TnG should be the one to go for if you wanna pay your postpaid bill using e wallet.

Boost only supports Celcom for the time being, but they confirmed that more telcos will be added soon.

Already linked mine since the day it appeared on my Wechat.

Nothing much from the news, until I read this sentence...

Soon customers would also be able to pay for their shopping, namely Giant, Resorts World Genting, MyNews and GSC, with more to come.

That's what I wanted to see, especially MyNews and GSC. rclxm9.gif

Don't be too excited on the new release of TnG App.
The physical card feature is still premature. Only balance retrieval.
*
At least can check balance, it's still something. But I'm still waiting for them to launch the online reload feature.

Not fully forgivable yet, just partially. biggrin.gif

I'm still of the opinion that the packet money is meant to encourage more guinea pigs to stress test their servers or to better gauge the amount of users in Malaysia.

At the same time, let's not forget that these are still free money so it's still better than nothing.
*
Your opinion does make sense, but I'm leaning more towards to the latter.

QUOTE(wilson1stop @ Aug 24 2018, 10:14 AM)
haha, got over 31 e-wallets but only those gave cashback or privileges can getting slices of cakes.

Tencent/Wechat should be more aggressive in this since they're pionnered in this sector.
*
QUOTE(Xaser_3 @ Aug 24 2018, 10:17 AM)
Hopefully, they don't have that mindset that they are big and pioneers, so everyone will and should use their e-wallet. That would be a grave mistake and complacency from their side.
*
I'm still wondering how are they gonna encounter Boost, it might be a battle of getting merchants accepting their service and also coming up with cashback promotion but in a money packet form.

Personally, I don't like their new UI graphic design...I prefer the previous one.

Good thing, they add the new feature for physical card.

But, the whole thing still look half bake, especially on the ios security side...you can use the TnG wallet to make payment without have to key in any security pin (but on android version i found that you need to)...hope they notice that...
*
Indeed, it's still half baked.

Also, my friend using an Android phone, is able to make payment without having to enter pin cuz he never set it.

That why until now I still don't even dare to top up any credit into the TnG e-wallet...plus, until now still cannot do withdrawal...basically they only want the money to go one-way tongue.gif

So far I only manage to top up using KK FREE RM10 reload pin, and use to buy thing at KK, there I notice it is surprisingly fast process, faster than Boost coz you no need to key in any pin...After the KK supervisor key in the top up soft pin, click pay and scan the barcode...done
*
Aside from the lack of withdrawal, it's actually a better e wallet than Wechat Pay for the time being.

Wechat Pay may be the worst when it comes to UI and software stability among the e wallets.
