Not too sure if I am correct, if we are looking looking at just the clock speed and nos. of CUDA cores, the performance delta could only be as follow:
RTX 2080 is just 10% better than GTX 1080, wile probably slower than GTX 1080 TI, while the same performance delta can be applied for RTX 2080 TI vs GTX 1080 TI.

So  the pricing strategy of putting RP of new RTX 2080 to be the same as GTX 1080 TI ($699) will be able to help them to hold their margin for existing Maxwell cards.

I don't think it will be just 10% faster than the 1080ti though maybe 20-25% that just wouldn't justify the price hike of starting from 699$ Msrp at all (cards are selling for more than 800$ now). Thats insane why would I even bother with the turing cards if I must pay an even bigger premium just to get slightly better shadows and shaders for my games?

i haven't see any games that support ray tracing so far... probably those AAA titles announced tonight? Battlefield 5, shadow of the tomb raider etc...

Eh should be? I'd stayed up to two a clock expecting a heckuva show from Jensen but you imagine my disappointment when he tried to stall the crowd so long with demonstrating why we need more shaders and shadows albeit slightly better in our games and then proceed to reveal the MSRP of the cards. Damn why did he make such a large hike when these cards do not have the potentially big enough performance jump to go with it? Still the new founders cards look sexy af though.

Guys, what was the price of 1080 when it first came out? Is there a significant price increase with the new 2080?
*
There absolutely is a heckuva price increase from the 1080 or there won't be this long chain of disgruntled noises of gamers everywhere complaining about the ridiculous pricing from Nvidia.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider, RTX 2080Ti with max settings and ray tracing enabled, results? Fluctuations of 30-60fps at 1080p. Yup, 1080p.

While drivers are probably not matured enough yet, I doubt any "game ready" drivers will provide a significant boost either. This is why I said to keep expectations in check.

They even expect you to sli them to the get fps you need lol. The high bandwidth bridge is also sold at another ludicrous 80$.
