Volta is not for consumer cards. It is meant for AI use in the enterprise market.
The consumer version is call Turing. Things that was told: 1. Turing will support new direct x 13. And thts y you need those Tensor Cores that Pascal cards dont hv. 2. We know Volta is using HBM2, either 3072 or 4096 bit memory bus width. Turing will be using GDDR6, 256bit memory bus width. Gtx1180 will come with 8gb vram only. Rrp usd730. Rumours say gtx1180 will release on July 30. We shall see abt tht. |

QUOTE(Boldnut @ Jun 26 2018, 08:12 PM) a lot miners & user selling at garage sale b4 tuing come out lol. Definitely not RM1k for sure for GTX 1070. GTX 1180 is estimated to be priced at RM3.5k in the beginning. For the first 3~4 months, price will be high due to low supply but high demand . We are talking about worldwide shortage. Ppl have been waiting for this card for ages already. GTX 1080 came out in year 2016.if turing come out can see 1070 go to RM1K. The problem here is, RAM price is a biatch , because smartphones, Internet of Things and gaming console all need RAM . The most demand is from the smartphone industry and they are willing to pay the high price, imagine these days high end smartphones all come with at least 6GB of RAM, some got 8GB, exclude that lame Apple I-Phone X with 3GB RAM only please. Server is also another segment that have high demand for RAM, with intense competition between AMD and Intel, server side suddenly undergone a brutal CPU core count race , RAM demand spike up as well as when you have more CPU core count to work with, you need more RAM as well to create more virtual machines with the least amount of physical servers . Registered DIMM with ECC easily cost 3 times the price of desktop RAM. So put yourself in their shoes as cheeky businessmen, obviously you will put more resources to produce RAM to cater for whom can pay the most bucks. Plus there are only so few RAM manufacturers left these days, Micron, Samsung, Hynix combined produce 96% of the world's RAM chips , so the trio form a price fixing pact and make big bucks while the common consumers face the RAM shortage and high prices. Micron just started mass production of GDDR6 on 25 June 2018 For GTX 1180, I strongly believe it will only get 384GB/s memory bandwidth using 8 pieces of 12Gbps RAM chips.
