Much as I would like to upgrade from my GTX1070Ti, due to limited time for gaming and still using my 1080p 60Hz monitor, I cant see much of a return on investments yet. I suppose I can wait another 2 years and grab RTX3070 when it's an older tech. At that time we may see AM5 platform too

Ya 1080ti here also won't be getting new

Depends on your TNB bill. I don't think there's much in terms of performance gain, if any at all.

just buying it as a backup since gc prices will be higher as all semcon companies will be increasing prices.

and for trying linux since nvidia drivers have so some issues with linux aparently.

Well, 6600XT kinda sucks at >1080p due to the lack of Infinity Cache and narrow memory bus, so it doesn't seem worthwhile. More logical to buy a faster card and keep the 1080Ti as backup to me.
Yeah, I did the maths, it's not worth it. Unless he wants his PC to emit less heat. Or do ultra low power ethereum mining like what goldfries demoed - 6600XT has the best hashrate per watt efficiency (although card prices suck vs some of the Ampere cards for this purpose).
*
yeah the issue is cards prices thesedays darn bloated. IF can get a 6800XT for 3-4k would have already gone for it just that they need bundle and even if can get its 6-7k which is ridicholous

Hence 6600xt seems like a good replacement back up card
