Wah, 850watt only? Honestly thought minimum requirement will 1000watt.

Might be a very conservative estimate considering power spikes of high end Ampere cards sweat.gif

Also something interesting about the 3090 Ti power efficiency:
QUOTE
Compared to other Ampere card this means efficiency is 10% reduced, 25% worse than AMD's RDNA2 offerings

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/msi-gefo...uprim-x/41.html

470W power consumption for the card alone (it's even more than some gaming PCs in entirety) is not exact pretty and let's just hope that this is not the norm for next gen GPUs sweat.gif

Seems like 450W is way too much for some cases to handle too:

"Asus to Cut GPU Prices by Up to 25%, Starting in April
By Mark Tyson published 1 day ago
All SKUs will reportedly be slashed."

More price cuts coming next month, no need to buy yet.

...only in the US, due to changes in tariffs icon_idea.gif
It's highly unlikely such price changes will be reflected here icon_idea.gif

i saw got 10gb and 12gb version, are 2 GB different a lot in performance?

Plan to upgrade to 2k monitor and play all the latest game mostly in high setting.
*
1440p? The 10GB and 12GB versions are mostly identical performance-wise icon_idea.gif

Not identical at all. Average FPS sure, they're basically the same but who cares about avg?

The 1% frametime is quite a bit better on the 12GB 3080 especially at 1440p and if you can pair it with an Alder Lake to alleviate bottlenecking.
*
VRAM bottleneck? I don't think the extra 2GB VRAM is going to make much of a difference at 1440p hmm.gif

It's got nothing to do with VRAM lol.

The 12GB version has more CUDA cores, more SMP, more tensor and RT cores and uses a wider memory bus width. So it all adds up to boost the crucial 1% frametimes, which tightens up framepacing and stuttering.

Yes of course, that doesn't mean it's worth the RM1.7k extra over an ordinary 10GB 3080, but to call them identical is inaccurate.
*
hmm.gif Guess I'm stand corrected then (nVidia GPU lineup these days are starting to get quite confusing especially at the top end)

Seems like high power consumption might be the norm for future GPUs onwards sweat.gif

Twice As Fast As RTX 3080 Ti, RTX4080 Pricing at $1199 & $899 US for 16GB and 12 GB, respectively.
*
The pricing structure seems to suggest that Nvidia is trying to upsell customers to the 4090 sweat.gif
Not liking the pricing of the x80 cards either sweat.gif

Yeah, pay USD 1599 for this quality. It is crap.
*
This is the exact reason why you should never buy new and fancy tech at launch - you're essentially paying companies to do QC for them, and the usual early adopters tax icon_idea.gif

12GB VRAM though sweat.gif

Could had pulled the trigger if it had 16GB VRAM sweat.gif

5070 also 12GB VRAM so its not like you get a bigger buffer by waiting. That 4070 deal is quite good if your in the market
*
Might as just well bite the bullet and get a 4070Ti Super, if the benchmarks of the 5080 and their lower tier GPUs are of any indication sweat.gif

So a 4080 Ti (super)? doh.gif

I still remember the day where the new xx60/70 GPU is on par with last generation's xx80 (Ti) GPU - see the 3070 for instance sweat.gif

Mobo also hard sell these days as well. The pricing is getting ridiculous. They wanna maximize profit.
*
That depends on what model you are planning to buy though - you can still get fairly cheap boards if you know your exact needs and where to find them icon_idea.gif

To buy 9800x3d need to bundle with mobo.
But to buy 5000series need to bundle WHOLE SYSTEM?! O.M.G!!!

Seems like buying hardware only benefit those changing whole PC.
*
Artificial shortages, yay sweat.gif
But on a more serious note, do you really need the latest and greatest hardware to run most PC games these days? Unless you really like to squint on every single graphical detail most people out there doesn't really need a 5090+9800X3D icon_idea.gif

When almost every brand goes to TSMC and order chips. Obviously queue is happening. Then you have Intel or AMD not competing. The best automatically becomes "best seller" and shortage happens. Its not artificial, the obvious production queue is there. When Intel and Samsung fab catches up. We'll see better availablity if they start using Intel or Samsung.
*
Well I seriously doubt the two can catch up to TSMC in any meaningful way soon sweat.gif

So I checked stores around Lowyat and I think they only have about ~5 RTX 5090, but all need to buy with one PC SET. 1 dude from China bought RM 24k PC Set with 5090.

user posted image

They have about dozens of 5080 tho... But still need to bundle with PC

I was prepared to spend 12k for 5090 so it's an odd feeling when it is not good enough for to buy a product cry.gif
user posted image

4080 Super and 4090 is all out of stock in lowyat, so I guess my build will have to endure being GPU less for awhile.
*
Those prices... you can buy a half decent used car sweat.gif

Apparently, the 50s GPU are in severe shortage , the entire world is struggling to find one.
In USA they've only managed to ship a few hundreds of 5090 GPU. So expect the shortage to last for awhile longer.

On top of that you also have to compete with the Chinese and Scalpers who have fat wallets.

I was in Japan few days ago and can confirm they were indeed doing the lottery draw on who get a chance to buy it.

Msg'ed a couple of local retailers got the same replies PC bundles only.
However , one of them eventually got back to me later with a sneaky note they can let one go for RM22K. Didn't mention the brand.
*
Good god, somehow Nvidia manages to make this GPU launch even more of a dumpster fire doh.gif
...and I thought that the great GPU shortage of the pandemic is already bad enough sweat.gif

This game demands CPU too. Got one guy reported 99% CPU used on beta test.
*
Modern RE engine games are very heavy on the CPU - something in the line of the 5700X3D should be a big enough upgrade for that game icon_idea.gif

Tried asked several retailers for a 5070 Ti, all of them want to sell me bundles or fully built machines doh.gif
