Below 2k for 1080ti is possible yes but most likely just Zotac brand. Other brands like Asus and etc will still be more expensive as usual. Wait when 2080ti out sure price will drop more.

I on the other hand just buy 1080ti and sell my 980ti before resale value drop more. But in this case 1080ti price also drop, so kinda a bit of dilemma that time haha. But considering my old 980ti is older and will drop like crazy, i think it's a safe bet rather than waiting for 1080ti price to drop further.

Also I game on 1080p setup still with 1080ti. Kinda overkill? But will last me for quite a while. Thinking of going 2k at least for the sweat spot for the card, rather than 4k, since need to lower some settings and etc.

If both 980Ti and 1080Ti drop 20%, you will lose RM200 selling the 980Ti cheaper, but you save RM500 getting a cheaper 1080Ti. That's how I see it.
The thing is, not many people is buying the 980Ti ATM with many people dumping their mining GTX1070.

True also. I kinda got a buyer before I even sell it so I just let it go fast, considering that most will likely go for the 10 series rather than the 900 series. It will take a long time to sell and I even might to drop the price even more in the long run. Plus upgrading early just in case the price of the 10 series might actually go back up to normal, in case 20 series doesn't really perform that well.

Atm, unless you go for 144Hz and 1440p and above, even gtx1070 performance is overkill for standard 1080p
*
There's no such thing called overkill & even with 1080p is also quite demanding.

Comparing the vram got nothing to do with whether he wanted to sell the 980Ti now or later. And you're confusing that with 780 Ti (vs 980 Ti) and 1080 (vs 1080 Ti).

you should use 1080p 144Hz and GTX1060 instead of 1080p 60Hz with GTX1070

I'm using 1080ti with 1080p monitor as well lol . Mistakenly bought ASUS Strix xg27v monitor , ended up had to use DSR to make use of the 1080ti potential...

XB271HU is RM2.4k+ now, this monitor is amazing. Other than that, the Acer Predator X34 is very nice too, 3440 x 1440 at 120Hz. There's the newly announced 4K and 1440p monitors with 144Hz too, but the cheaper models mostly use freesync

It is alright at least you are using 144Hz monitor.

If you use 1080ti and 1080p 60Hz, you have wrong priority lol, I mean 1080p 144Hz is cheap now.
