What model cooler (looks like MSI Gaming?)? It is very, very important to get the correct thickness otherwise you'll end up with having low VRAM temps but then high AF GPU hotspots.

Personally I use Kriticalpads.

EVGA XC3

aren't the pad squishy like .. err pads?
meaning can compress when sandwich down component/heatsink?
since I see margin can be 0.5/1.0mm thickness

I don't think liquid metal would be advisable in this case in case of damage or improper application. Wondering what thermal paste would be best?

if you are looking for a widely available paste with less pump out effect, i think will be the arctic mx-4

Good idea to try. How about others like Thermalright's TRX paste?
*
no experience with others as I just finish my last 5.5g kryonaut paste and so happen to be looking for alternatives

short listed some to try,
mx-4
Nt-h1
maxtor ctg8 (cheap)
and now add the CM Mastergel Maker

kingpin KPX, thermalright TFX are priced at a different tier
like the kryonaut extreme

Now to find an app to control fan speed according to GPU temp.

Argus Monitor, paid app tho
why not repaste as well?

Yes I bought the thermal pads for VRAM. Damn expensive this Thermal Grizzly. Only to find out it was 3cm x3cm only and not enough for all the VRAMs.  sweat.gif So I didn't use it.

Boy, I am so so sooooooooooo happy.

I solved my GPU overheating problem and it is because of the damn original thermal paste. When I detached the heatsink, I found the thermal paste hard and cracking. Like cheese cake put out in the open for 1 year.  ranting.gif

Luckily the thermal pads was soft and easily put back into place.

I bought coolermaster mastergel pro v2, applied it, reassemble the whole thing, fired up my rig and wow! Gaming temps for "Control" game was 56'c instead of reaching thermal throttling of 83'c in less than a minute!!  rclxms.gif

At least now I have solved my GPU problem and tamed the 13700k. So happy.

[attachmentid=11417212]

Deshrouded GPU. Previously deshrouded so quite easy to remove the shroud as I previously didn't screw in one screw hidden behind the display port.

[attachmentid=11417214]

The final assembly. Quite easy to adjust the height of the fans as I just need to  screw or unscrew the gpu stand at the base.

may your frame rates be high and temps be low

I currently have a 12v-2x6 cable that comes with the NZXT C850 plugged into my 5080. Hopefully it doesn't burn. Zotac's 5080 has a light indicator to make sure you plugged in the cable correctly.

much lesser issue with the xx80, most on xx90

Moddiy Recommends Not Using 2024 12V-2x6 Cables for RTX 5090 GPUs

Moddiy to advise that cables built before 2025 should not be used with the new Nvidia GPUs based on the Blackwell architecture. These older cables, identified with an "H+" marking, were constructed using the previous 12VHPWR specifications. In contrast, the new cables, labeled as "H++," feature enhancements that improve power distribution and reduce the risk of overheating, ensuring they can handle the higher electrical loads demanded by modern GPUs. Unlike older cables based on the original 12VHPWR standard, the new models produced from 2025 onward come with thicker wiring and improved materials for both connectors and terminal housings.

remember when everyone says there is no change to the power plug (cable side) when changing from 12vhpwr to 12x-2x6 standard? lmao tongue.gif

yea, all was saying it's just connectors. No mention of cable gauge
