Finally managed to stress test and play some games on my newly build PC with the 4090. Can only be awestruck by the benchmark and game performance. Waiting to be awestruck by the electric bill next laugh.gif

As long as you use the latest atx 3.0 psu you're good actually. Just don't use the adapter.

So far all adapter related. Has there been any issue yet with those using ATX 3.0 PSU? Because so far mine has been fine, stressed tested, and have been gaming quite often past few days with the MSI Gaming Trio RTX 4090

Mine is the ATX3.0 Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 1000W, with 10 year warranty. I think Thermaltake is alright when it comes to power supply? Was hoping for FSP but can't didn't get it in time when on stock, Seasonic need to wait till December which isn't an option

Im cornered to buy this GF3 1000w as well as its only option available to replaced my existing corsair hx1200 platinum. GF series if I read somewhere correctly is tier-2 but the list was updated somewhere in Jun 2022 where the GF3 does not exist yet.

FSP hydro G series is tier 1 psu yea, but the 1000w all sold out. I'm not getting 850w unless it's rated platinum or above for such high power consumption system.

Gigabyte psu, strictly I phobia with it and banned this brand psu as I got bad experience, the aoruz gold series bought new but then it can't run my PC when plug-in, went back to do 1 to 1 exchange able to power up then. After just few months it failed again. Such a crappy psu yea.

Personal view corsair platinum, coolermaster platinum are all very good psu, no hiccup and smooth operation with peace of mind ownership.

Linus forum for the tier list. Some GF is tier 1 and yeah some tier 2.. idk about the latest GF3. I'm just gonna get it because it has the 10 year warranty.. I waited for too long to upgrade, so kinda can't wait anymore lol. If you can wait definitely wait for FSP or Seasonic, they are definitely the better PSU in my book.

Coolermaster PSU used to die fast but that's older model, idk how it is now, but i'd still advice to avoid it. Corsair no comment from me, I avoid them like a plague because their AIO... I have RMA'ed 3 times.. they give different upgraded model every RMA, but still dead pump. Suspected was software issue rather than hardware that Corsair is still denying it's an issue till this day. End up selling the AIO mint on the last RMA laugh.gif

Looks like Nvidia still wins in terms of DLSS and RT, but lose in terms of value.

That pricing is so good by AMD. No need new casing, atx 3.0 psu, hahahaha. Easy upgrade for people.

I'm happy and excited for next gen already. Probably so competitive, price and performance will be best next gen.

Doesn't only happen to adapters because of the bending it seems.
Even those with ATX 3.0 also has this issue especially the MSI PSU, I even heard the Thermaltake GF3.0 has an issue.

But it's more towards user error with actual proof https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/yn...in_all_the_way/

12VHPWR if not connected all the way in will result in the temperature going 100c even at 450 watt. Just make sure if you got the 4090 make sure the click sound is heard and make sure the clip isn't up but down even when there was the click sound..

So far on my end it's alright, no such issue yet. Touchwood would never be an issue.

not fully inserted means the clip did not hook completely and it stays upward angle instead. its kind of hard to make this mistake as we always make sure the hook is really hook into it and wiggle back out to test whether its really secure fit.
really an expensive mistake from user.  sweat.gif

Yup you can see in the reddit thread I posted.. there is someone (green flair) who put a lot of force on the clip and still it was upwards.. but using a bequiet adapter. Dude had to do it with a screwdriver to force the pins to actually click.

Not properly plugged in despite there being a click.

i suggest people do it once and do it right,
remember the connector has max 30 mating cycles, if close to maximum, people might still end up with burnt connector.
*
30 mating cycle is just adapter right, not the psu 12pin

Perhaps there will be refreshed 12VHPWR socket to address the melting issue

This actually does not address the melting issue https://videocardz.com/newz/mind-the-gap-ps...ables-correctly

If not properly seated will still cause the melting. nod.gif

we've seen people claiming
1. poor adapter --> even native 12vhpwr also burnt
2. user didn't plug in fully "it's the user error" --> nicely plugged in connector also burnt
3. there is x and y manufacturer for the adapter and stuffs, and avoid x! --> both x and y burnt

don't want to do guess work...but if none of the above listed is the cause...what else?  icon_idea.gif
*
Obviously design flaw is one of them as well, if not this issue wouldn't have ever happened laugh.gif
We all know the adapter which is poorly made is the main issue in all this farce as well.
User error being one of them could be as proven by Igor's testing. I mean what kinda of user is going to say it's their fault if their 8k card is faulty because of them not plugging in it properly? No one is going to say it's their fault, they want an RMA.

Ultimately the one who is to blame is Nvidia themselves. Give a stupid cheapo adapter, ran away with the money and giving the middle finger to everyone who bought the 4090 laugh.gif

Not seated properly and foreign particle/debris from manufacturing inside the connector(qc issue) causes the melt. Even those who always check if the cable is melting is likely to cause this issue.

Finally I can use my 4090 with a peace of mind. Can even sleep peacefully now lol

Most likely the guy won't win. It's mostly qc issue and user errors according to Gamers Nexus extensive investigation and testing. While I'd be happy if he won, it just seems unlikely.

Interested to see how this develops tho, who knows maybe I can also get a recall or replacement with a better connector or adapter, that would be nice.

You know exactly what Nvidia is doing anyway.. Just looking at the performance chart.. they just want you to either pay more for better performance or just go with the 30 series for a more cheaper option.
