Hi there fellow lowyat users!

I am currently using a Maxis Fibre 30mbps. My modem is set up in the storeroom at 1st floor of my house, and I hardly get stable wifi in my room up on the second floor. I'm getting 5 mbps on average, with occasional disconnections on a daily basis.

I am considering to buy a better router for better range and speed.


I am considering NETGEAR R6700 Nighthawk AC1750 Smart Dual Band WiFi Router (R6700). It’s quite popular overseas but I’m just concerned that it might not work in Malaysia. Should I be concern of anything?


Do kindly let me know if you have better suggestions on other routers!

Sorry my bad, I got excited easily.

I tried 2 <RM100 wifi repeaters but with no avail, so I figured to switched out my old router. Im thinking a router <RM400.
May I further ask what's VoIP / IPTV?
Netgear is just a brand I came across with good branding and reviews and it appealed to me.

Yeh, I know it's a common case, especially for IT noobs like me :\

Both modem and router is in the storeroom. It's the only place I can set them up.

It's a 2-storey house. I would estimate arnd 80 feet to my computer location.

Im just thinking to maximize my current 30mbps since I only get 5mbps on average.

Yeh I did try TP Link repeater, but no improvements whatsoever.

I took consideration of the stairs, but my room is close to right above the storeroom. (maybe i overestimated)

I gotcha mate, Im just out here looking for options, since the current router doesn't seems to perform.

I believe mine's a VoIP. the package comes with a phone line.

I'm more of a quality guy so if the product is good I'm willing to pay.
But if both performs at the similar level I think I'll take your suggestion to get the Asus router?

I'll also take suggestions from others to try locating my router outside of the storeroom (but I gotta get a longer lan cable to relocate the router ay).

Thanks for the suggestion, would you mind suggesting any good dual band wifi adaptor to pair with it?

Im actually considering the suggested TP-Link C3150 v2 one at the moment.
Im just worried because my house has tons of walls (the signal needs to get to my room, then my computer room).

But the dual band wifi adapter is a great idea.

I think a TP-Link C3150 v2 router + Asus USB AC55 adapter should work for me.

Just for my information, what are the differences between v1 and v2?
I could recognize the difference from the product description (and it didn't specify as v2 model).
