Hi there fellow lowyat users!

I am currently using a Maxis Fibre 30mbps. My modem is set up in the storeroom at 1st floor of my house, and I hardly get stable wifi in my room up on the second floor. I'm getting 5 mbps on average, with occasional disconnections on a daily basis.

I am considering to buy a better router for better range and speed.
I am considering NETGEAR R6700 Nighthawk AC1750 Smart Dual Band WiFi Router (R6700). It’s quite popular overseas but I’m just concerned that it might not work in Malaysia. Should I be concern of anything?
Do kindly let me know if you have better suggestions on other routers!  cool2.gif
You guys rock. please help a brother out.

(I have attached my current set up).

another "bad wifi in my house" case...! tongue.gif

"modem in storeroom"... u mean modem or router or both?
locked up in a concrete box... can u move the router into the open?

this is a 3-storey house?
can u describe house footprint. distances where yr devices are?

really, 3 storey house... u better first upgrade to 100mbps.
if not, u may be wasting $ on all kinds of equipment for 30mbps.

Yeh, I know it's a common case, especially for IT noobs like me :\
Both modem and router is in the storeroom. It's the only place I can set them up.
It's a 2-storey house. I would estimate arnd 80 feet to my computer location.
Im just thinking to maximize my current 30mbps since I only get 5mbps on average.

80 ft.. store room at bottom corner while yr pc is at opposite top corner... in a super-super long house?

80ft is a killer even for 100mbps 5ghz in yr situation - no easy solution.

seriously, unless u move the router outside by doing a lan cable, there is little u can do to improve wifi.

once u get the router outside, it is easier - a good new router placed in the right place will do ok.

I believe mine's a VoIP. the package comes with a phone line.

I'm more of a quality guy so if the product is good I'm willing to pay.
But if both performs at the similar level I think I'll take your suggestion to get the Asus router?

I'll also take suggestions from others to try locating my router outside of the storeroom (but I gotta get a longer lan cable to relocate the router ay).

If u can use lan cable to place the router in the open, preferably around the center of the house, u r in good shape.

30mbps, no need to spend so much.

Asus rtac1300uhp is good enough for yr case, will be good too for 50, 100 mbps.

One thing, yr pc is likely running on 2.4ghz; with new router, consider geting a dual band wifi adaptor for pc to run on 5ghz.

Yr 2s house is a very typical case... no need to muck around with too many or too costly eqpt.

Just a good router placed in the right place.

Thanks for the suggestion, would you mind suggesting a dual band wifi adaptor to pair with it?

u may not need it as i did not need it when using 30, 50 mbps unifi... pretty much full speed.

only 100mbps, i had to... to get full speed.

there are rm50, rm100, rm2xx ones; i use asus usb ac55.

been using rtac1300uhp+usb ac55 for my pc almost 3 months now, 24/7, trouble free.

here, 55ft wifi:

Thanks man.
I think a TP-Link C3150 v2 router + Asus USB AC55 adapter should work for me.

the adaptor... make sure when attached to pc, it is in open too, not hidden in a blind spot.

use a usb extension cable if u need.
