Hello guys, I currently own a Sony A5100 and i'm planning to buy a second lens. Wanted to consider Sony 35mm 1.8 lens but then saw awesome reviews for the new Sigma 16mm 1.4 which gives much wider angle.

16mm vs 35mm is HUGE difference oh, regardless sensor.
For A5100 doing street I'd prefer to go 16mm. 35 the FOV will be tighter. 16mm (on APS-C) = 84 degrees FOV 35mm (on APS-C) = 46 degress FOV Since you do portrait and video then 35mm might be a good bet too. Perhaps end up buying both, in the end just go buy Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Sony. |

If need to choose 1, I'd say the Sony 35/1.8, assuming you still have the kit lens for wide shots.
The Sigma is great (just bought one myself) but I tend to prefer a gallery where most photos are taken with 35mm with a few wide angles here and there. If there are too much wide angle shots it kinda seems a bit boring. Again, just my opinion. 35/1.8 looks like a big difference over what the kit lens can do. At 16mm the kit lens is quite decent in good light, so the improvements of using the Sigma 16/1.4 is not as big. This post has been edited by dvlzplayground: Mar 18 2018, 11:25 PM |

Sigma has cooler colors, slower AF and no OSSI do take portraits, street photography and also some videos...will be great if can get some advice from you pros Anyways, images and videos taken with the 35f1.8 are gorgeous This post has been edited by gaeria84: Mar 18 2018, 11:48 PM |
