Guys, I need your expert opinion. My Acer laptop went dead on me the other day after 2 years of usage and I'm thinking of buying my first Mac, a 1.66GHz Mac Mini. My question is that should I buy or should I wait longer? Well, I use my computer mostly for Word processing, Excel, Power Point presentation and also for movies and web surfing and maybe some light gaming like Sims. I read a lot of review and now I'm confused. I need opinion of Mac Mini users, are you happy with your Mac Mini? Thanks Guys!

Go for it. You would be a Mac convert like many others in two weeks time.

No point wait as techno wont wait anybody. The pain of waiting is rather annoying!!!

Once converted to Mac, one can no longer see computer the same way that they do while using windows

if you only want mac mini then I dunno. But if you buy more powerful desktop machine, you can still dual boot it into windows xp. Or you could even use parallels to run windows from within mac.

Anyway, the only reason not to use mac is if you play a lot of games. So, for your needs, a mac would suffice. I'll say go for it.

based on the stuff u said u use your computer for.......i don't see a point in waiting......just get 1 now.....hehehe....

even if u've waited (for leopard or a newer mac)....it makes not much difference if u use it for word processing and stuff.......just go for it....u'll love it!

Hehehehe thank you so much guys.....actually I've been interested in Mac since I saw my friend's 24" iMac. I told him about me buying a mac mini and he said go for it as the experience is totally different. He also mentioned that the life span of Mac is also long and also you don't need to worry about major upgrading your Mac when there's new Os is out unlike the PC. Is it true? I've ordered a Samsung monitor just now, white color 732N. Will put the photo's out once I get my first Mac purring. rclxms.gif Thanks guys

In my opinion, my Mac Mini, is kinda well honestly it lags abit when you run lots of Apps. But I believe if you only do word processing and that stuff it shoudn't really be a problem. Comparing it with my 20inch iMac, I can see the difference in speed and performance. Of course this is your choice, but getting a Mac Mini is like getting a normal Windows Laptop(Something like my dad's Dell Inspirion 6400). Still, everyone should get a Mac because of the OS, Mac OS X, it really is awesome(well not really if you're a gamer) and you can do most things windows lalachais can do. iLife rocks too. No lousy calculator man!

The Mac Mini is due for a update soon. I don't know when. But why not just wait till the WWDC in June if it isn't urgent.

Well if word processing if what you do most, you may be a little disappointed. Cause Microsoft Office for Mac won't be as fast as the Microsoft Office in Windows.

Just thought you need to know.

It is also the case for a few other applications that's available in both Windows & Mac.

And without Microsoft Internet Explorer, some sites don't load well or at all.

BUT to all of us here, we justified the minus points with loads of other plus points. Worth the switch if you ask me.

This is true only if you have the standard 512MB RAM. Once you've upgraded to more (I had 2GB) then it'll really fly.

The speed between the 1.66GHz Mac Mini and a 2.16GHz iMac is definitely noticeable. The ATI graphics on the iMac makes a difference if you're playing games for example. The Mac Mini however has a socketed CPU unlike the iMac so it is possible to go for a faster CPU later down the road...

There's a difference between the iMacs and MacMinis. To begin with the iMac runs on Core 2 Duo. The MacMini's on Core Duo - but if you're using it mainly for word processing (btw, you can always choose NOT to use Office for Mac, but use Open Office or NeoOffice) a Core Duo should be more than sufficient smile.gif

Go visit the stores and check it out - most of them are pretty helpful biggrin.gif but be sure you're speaking to someone who's well versed to advise you and not merely some salesperson *g* The other thing u need to really check is if the game you usually play (Sims) is 'playable' on a Mac cause from what I read, hard core gamers should stick to Microsoft blush.gif

I don't really play games that much, only once in a month or something like that. My usage more on watching movie, listening to music and lastly preparing my presentations and other documents and excel stuff. I used to use open office on my RIP laptop and I guess without MS Office I still can live. My 17" Samsung 732N white colour monitor is here.....(I Love White Color Stuff I even have a white PSP). 1 more question is, is Mac Mini able to run bootcamp with Windows XP properly? Thanks you guys! You guys been much help and your patience is greatly appreciated.

wah eh, didn't visit here for a while now Tinkerbel now expert already. wink.gif

anyway guys and gals. just because you decided to use Mac that doesn't mean
1. that you switched camp and betrayed all humanity
2. that you should never use Windoze again
3. that you will be an outcast

for me, i use Windows, Mac OS and Linux (currently SUSe) - think of using Mac as being different, broadening your experience. smile.gif

it's good. heck i'm posting this from my macbook.

Santa Rosa has been officially announced. Seriously, wait till WWDC in June. You might be buying a Mac now which will get outdated real soon....

If u really want Leopard, don't need it now, wait till October?

If u won't regret, don't really care, need it now, get it after WWDC, in like 1 week? a few days after WWDC, can get or get it after what has been announced in WWDC.
