They don't rust.

HDD high failure rate this days are cause by cheapo manufacturers trying to cut cost on the material. The components or alloys percentage have been highly altered to reduce the cost on manufacturing various parts of the hdd. I don't believe in mass manufacturing could actually reduce the cost of items. However, i do assume that in such mass manufacturing process, their suppliers have decides to lower the grade of their parts by simply fusing their alloys with very terrible metal substances that are known to degrade and cause various issues after various life cycle of usage.
