Hi,

I am planning to get a gaming laptop, budget around 6k. Wanted a laptop instead of desktop mainly due to its mobility.

Which is recommended, MSI GP62MVR 7RFX 898MY LEOPARD PRO or Acer Predator Helios 300?

or are there any better recommendations for <6k gaming laptop?

Thanks

I will use it mostly for games (Dota2, PUBG and Fifa).
Looking for 1060 GPU, screen at least 15", design doesnt really matter as long as presentable,
good display, 8gb or 16gb ram, I7-7700 at leaast?

The cheapest is the Lenovo Legion Y520. Got everything that you need except it cheapen out on the graphic with only 3gb gtx 1060 but it probably unnoticeable anyway.

The Asus ROG FX503V on the other hand cheapen out on its ram with only 4gb. The problem is, 4gb of ram is not enough for today games. It need at least 8gb of ram to run a game properly. And if you want to upgrade it, add like another RM 250 ish, and suddenly it wasn't cheap anymore.

Dell Inspiron 7577 got rave review from critics, but it is quite expensive.

MSI GP62MVR made from a well known gaming laptop company with all its bell and whistle, but the customer service leave something to be desired.

If you're looking for the bang for the buck, i suggest getting the Acer Predator Helios. just be careful with it after the warranty ended.

never buy lenovo, poor value and quality nowadays, same with HP.

I suggest looking at alienware, some MSI lines, ASUS, dell inspirons (if looks not important), acer predator, clevo

Many brands both major and minor to choose from. Dell pro warranty is top notch, so if you buy dell make sure you get their pro warranty included.

For CPU, i suggest you go with 8gen intel CPU, as they have cheaper quad cores and 6 cores.

Thunderbolt 3 is a must as that lets you upgrade your GPU in the future. It also lets you use the intel IGP for external displays as in 99% of nvidia optimus laptops, the dGPU is connected to the display ports.

Some laptops have switchable that lets you choose to switch the laptop screen to dGPU rather than IGP allowing you to use syncs like freesync and nvidia variant easily. But if you connect to external monitor for gaming this feature is not needed.

not particularly as many models fit what you want, so i just give you advice on what to look for.
8th gen CPU, preferably 6 core
16GB ram
SSD and HDD combo (not SSHD)
Screen - do you want 144hz? ability to use GPU sync?

Probably because right now there a non that fit what you describing.
8th gen H processor with gtx 1060 wont be out probably till mid 2018 (dont get the 8th gen U processor because it worst than 7th gen H processor), and when it available the price will be expensive. Added with 16gb of ram and 144hz screen, it would probably cost you a kidney.
If you are willing to wait then it wouldn't be a problem. But the thing about laptop is while you are waiting, better thing are going to come out like nvidia volta for example and of course this.

You will be waiting forever to get a better laptop because there will be always a better one on the horizon.

I'll suggest the MSI GP62MVR

Reasons :

-It's got a 256GB ssd with a 7200rpm hdd. It's THE best combo for a storage as of now.

-The screen is 120hz. I cannot emphasize how much of a difference it'll make for your gaming experience. Believe me. It's worth getting the laptop just for the screen only

-After willing to spend RM6000 don't chicken up and try to save a buck on any lower laptops such as y520. I'm not saying that suggestion is bad, but you come this far....

-MSI tends to use high quality motherboard for their laptops. It should be able to handle electrical and heat abuse better than even the dell 7577. Bottom line, it'll last you longer.

The asus is not rog and uses pathetic parts, and horrible screen. The Dell 7577 is bulky as hell and missing a subwoofer to make up for it. Y520 will give you the performance, sure, but you'll be using a RM2800 laptop's body around it. The Acer helios is simply overpriced. It's nicely made and all, but hobbled together compared to the others, and it had a dim screen.

Here's your other alternatives:

- illegear Laguna with 1060 6gb = RM5649
Just perfect. Enough said. If that's not convincing enough, there's a sale going on right now. You'll save a fortune.

-Lenovo y720 = RM5999
It mysteriously disappeared from Malaysian market for no reason. But if available, I'll pick it for its sound system, according to Lenovo, you'll get a sound system of a RM12000 laptop
*
Thanks for the explanation bro..your reasons made me favor MSI more now!

All laptop will be hot no matter what or how good their cooling solution are...
get the laptop with best Graphic Card.. and highend enough CPU...
Put priority on graphic card.... nothing can replace raw power....

W15lite is using the desktop processor, the noise level expect will be very loud, unless always gaming on headset. if not i think this is better.

Too bad hard to find the 120Hz with G-Sync anymore.

Sorry mind to share more details. you meant the W15lite?

Although the W15Lite performance is better than 7700HQ, but better to consider the battery life, noise, heat and weight also.
Can read through the noise level and temperature on the review below for reference:

hope it helps notworthy.gif
