hI all,

I'm planning to go into cycling, using mountain bike.

1) What brand of bike is recommended?..I'm planning to survey at shopee website

2) the rationale for picking mountain bike is because it has cheaper maintenance. Is this rationale correct?

Facts:
- Budget: RM400 and below, if possible, below RM200. smile.gif (I saw the model Garion at shopee, cost RM443, looks fine, recommended?)
- purpose: to keep fit, will cycle it once per week, or once in 2 weeks. smile.gif

This is my opinion:

1. RM400 budget, your choices are just a normal bike with some gears, any brand will do as long as the size fits you.
2. Make sure you get the correct size if you buy online.
3. what kind of cycling are you planning to do: if on road cycling, then it's ok. if you are planning to go off-roads like parks or cycling trails, it will be very challenging.
4. no, MTB's are maintenance heavy.
5. get a single speed fixie bike. no gears with rim brakes.

something like this

Hi all, my SRS XCR fork from my 26er Mongoose Tyax expert is just going up and down without any resistance. Is it worth it to try to repair or should I just get a new fork? If get a new one, what should I aim for? I only ride on paved roads, some gravel road, no downhill or anything challenging so prefer something that is not too expensive.
Appreciate some inputs.

Hi,

its been years i last cycle =P .I am planning to resume this hobby. Would like to get advice.

I am planning to get MTB as my 1st bike. For now the plan is for on the road used to build up my momentum into cycling.I am a rough cyclist and KIV for off road cycling in future.

1)In term of MTB,how much i should allocate/budget for my 1st MTB?
2)Which kind/type MTB i should look into?XC/Hardtail or full suspention?
3)Is brand important in this case?
4)In term of type size which is recommended?I read somewhere it says size 26' spare parts is not easy to get?

Thanks.

1. budget, get what u are comfortable to buy with
dont spend so much because most of the time u will grow out of ur bike and will definitely wants something else that is lighter, looks better or simply parts that will make the cycling experience better
a. drivetrain / groupset. most modern bikes comes with 2x drive system, and most companies start to ditch 1x drive system. get these if possible. (2x11, 2x10, 1x11, or 1x12)
b. frame. make sure a good frame to support your rough activity. avoid those cheap chinese carbon frames. alluminium is still okay nowadays
c. brakes. hydraulic brakes are gooding. i have people that swear by it.

2. type? depends on ur location. if u're going on the road then a hardtail is the best option

3. brand. i does think this is debateable. yes, good brands have better qualities overall. but the pricing is also.. well, expensive.

4. size. nowadays people are starting to get into 29er. i guess u should start there. get the frame size that fits your height 1st

Need some guidance on my second time buying a MTB. First one I had was bought in 2013 (Fuji Tahoe or Nevada cant remember for RM2100). That bike was sold off in 2015 and now looking to get back in with something better.

Following is my budget and things I'm looking for and will mostly be used on-road with occasional off-roading:

Budget : RM4500 just for bike. Another RM500 for helmet, shorts, glove and maybe the right saddle.
Type: Hard tail
Group set: At least Shimano SLX but prefer XT.
Frame: Aluminum
Brand: Prefer Giant, Specialized, Merida or any brand that confirmed the same model is available worldwide (so I can read up some reviews on it).

Please also recommend bikes shops I should visit in Klang Valley. Already visited USJ Cycles on Monday but very few choices and plan to visit Roda Link in Shah Alam today.

Visit Rodalink only if you want Polygon or Marin bikes. Giant bikes will be in Aman Suria, Merida will be Pedalspot and Specialized will be well... Specialized concept stores... ( I heard of one in Bangsar and I've been to the one in Damansara Jaya near the Damansara Utama tol). There are other bike shops that carries a combo of your preferred brands but I cannot think of any right now. If you want Scott, there is Bikepro in Taman Mayang.

If based on specs and a bit of brand... it's 1,2 and 7 for me.
