Low fuel consumption
City > Cerato, Elantra

Low maintenance cost
- Regular service maintenance at service centre is the same
- Part like tyre, bumper, headlight, side mirror obviously city are cheaper due to B segment and less fancy feature

Comfortable for driver as well as passengers
Cerato, Elantra > City

Good handling & safe
Almost equals

But the car you mention are not in the same categories, you should compare kia rio sedan with city.

Also thinking of these for a 2nd hand car. Though I think it’s mostly Cerator vs Elantra. I seem to see more Elantras on the road though.

At that budget I would go for elantra. City will be a big NO, at least for me.

If you are going to send the car to service center, both city and elantra maintenance and parts cost almost the same.

Anyway, if you are a car guy, and know where to get cheap parts, believe it or not, many of elantra parts are more than 50% cheaper than city. Anyway, I'm talking about China and Taiwan made parts though. For some reason, its harder to get China and Taiwan parts for city.

Hi there, i have also similar dilemma about getting these type of car, and i just bought a used Cerato, jz wanna tell u what i feel after buying it.

-fuel consumption is acceptable, just dont compare it with myvi and below cars (previously was driving axia g) u know what i meant.

-maintenance wise, u need to have some basic knowledge or if can ask some other ppl in the car group see if they can give u suggestion to source cheaper parts, if only services I think should be an average price for the segment (i am assuming that to buy this segment car u already know your own affordability to service it).

-Comfort I think no complaint about it, it is nice.

-handling wise, not sure but safety wise I think should be good enough. thumbup.gif

if TS more concern on fuel consumption. Then no doubt City win hands down. maintenance cost include wear and tear parts? If yes, i bet korean cars will have slightly more cost on parts compare to jap.

While for other points, comfort wise i guess korean car? but City tends to have large cabin space. Handling wise i cant comment much on that.

elantra and cerato under c seg, city in b seg.

of course the fc will be different. not apple to apple comparison.
driving in klang valley, with heavy traffic, u will unlikely feel any difference in terms of 'good handling'.

TS, I have the same thought - elantra, cerato, and city.

Started my research since Jan '18. And finally bought a car. brows.gif

Summary
As mentioned by other poster, Elantra and Cerato falls under C-Segment while City is B-Segment.
I will break it down as followings:

Fuel Consumption: There is no doubt Honda City wins in this compartment. C-Segment cars are definitely heavier and bigger in size. You can compare the FC between the cars at fuelly and also our very own FnF ‘s FC thread : https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=314774

Handling: Cerato and Elantra have fishtail issue (source: car clubs thread in LYN). City is so-so. Nothing to shout about. But if you are driving in Klang Valley and traffic jams everyday, you don’t get to experience ‘good handling’ anyway haha.

Maintenance: You can compare how much the service will costs. Honda’s you can check from their website. Kia’s I gotten from Cerato FB group. Probably can be also found on Kia’s website.

Comfort: I have test drove all 3 cars. Cerato and Elantra definitely feels much more premium and more stable when driving at high speed. City is pretty decent.

Common problems:
Cerato : Spring clock & flex coupling – very common issues
’14 City : Door-side rubber’s hole can get blocked.

In the end, I bought ’14 City V. Costs much higher than the other 2 cars but FC matters to me a lot. biggrin.gif

I suggest TS to join those FB groups for the specific cars. I have learned a lot from actual car owners. Look at what their common problems, sharing car service receipts , etc. thumbsup.gif

Good luck with your car.

Hi guys, thanks for all your sharing and advice! Really appreciated.
Just an update, same as Miracles, i actually ended up with City V, considering
- fuel consumption
- maintenance (City seems to have less problem from what i read online)
- as well as future selling price (korean car depreciated quite badly it seems)

I really like Elantra though, spacious, comfortable and a more elegant look. It was a tough decision for me!
But now..... i will enjoy my City first biggrin.gif

Thanks again all sifus!
