Honda 5 years warranty is only for Engine, Steering Rack & CVT.. Others 3 Years...

Anyone's HRV 2022 version having knocking sound on front absorbers when going over speed bump? Planning to report it during my 10k service.
*
Just report if you are under warranty... If can try to go for a test drive with the technician to point out what sound you are hearing.

Has anyone changed the absorber in your 2016-2018 HRV ?  Do you guys recommend going for stock / ori Honda absorber (which will be soft again) , or going for other OEM ,  or even get it rebuild in places like Reiber ?  Any recommendation ?
*
HRV 2017.. Went for tein endura pro plus with stock absorber.. It is a little expensive compared to OEM/Showa/Kyb, but its worth it (160km/h no feeling).. No need to get those adjustable absorbers. Just a bit of advice, replace those rubber mounting while at it.

Hi folks, a friend of mine is looking to buy a used 2015-2016 unit.

What are the common problems/issues with this car to look out for?

Good article -https://www.wapcar.my/news/used-honda-hrv--from-rm-60k-a-hbadge-suv-for-ativa-money-how-much-for-maintenance-and-repairs-60112

2016 HRV V Spec - my front absorber, squeeking sound when on very rough road or over the bump..drive shaft some sound when turning.....the rest all good..
*
I think what to look out for are absorbers, bushes (Not only the front but the back too), suspension link, steering rack, auto tensioner, belt, mileage and also the condition of the car as well as the maintenance. But the big risk here is the CVT, as Honda is known for their easily broken CVT belt that can happen anytime anywhere.. So need to prepare ~5k to fix it if it breaks.

initially feel slightly jerking at slow speed, 20-40kmh, at that time still under warranty, happen when the car hitting 98k km, SC said no issue. CVT oil still within interval, so SC does not change it. the jerking still shown during slow speed, traffic jem situation. make 3-time SC visit, all said CVT gb still in good/ normal condition. After few months later, warranty already ended, jerking become more apparent, send to outside workshop for CVT oil change. Just slightly reduce the jerkiness until one day the jerking become major and CVT light pop up. Send to workshop, foreman check the belt already burst inside, maybe not full burst since still can drive. Make decision to get them replace the belt, cost about RM4k+. The mileage was at 120k km.

some well-known CVT shop quoted rm6k for the same repair. So, choose the RM4k. After replacing the belt, Jerking-clear as brand new. Maybe will own this car for another year max b4 upgrading her.

Thanks for the info. Mine initially felt a bit jerky during negotiate parking. Got complain but say it's normal.

Mine about 200k mileage already. So far belt tensioner and 1 bearing broke. Hope this car last. Kids getting bigger, need a lot of money. Want to buy Tesla, but scrap the idea.
*
They all will say it's normal lol because if change will require major labour and a new CVT cost ~20k they die die want your car cannot move only can claim.. If you go check the HRV group on FB a lot of people complain about the belt they use... Once you reach 100K the chances of it breaking are higher... Somemore the last time I brought my car to SC check got a sound from the suspension they said it was all ok.. The second time I bring I tell directly whats the problem "Steering Rack"... Only they say Oh got sound then proceed to claim... smile.gif

Also make sure every 40k change this thing call CVT filter.. SC wont do it for you biggrin.gif they will only change the Oil but not the filter.

First time own HRV 2022 and would like to have some suggestions from the sifus or experience owner here.

What is the recommended 12v battery that we can replace if not replacing from Honda and any new tyre apart from Continental UC6?
*
I have been using amaron battery since 2021 in my HRV 2017, still good. The one from HONDA cannot, only last 1 year. But the battery lasts also depends on how you use your car... Are you the kind that doesn't like to turn things off or do you turn off everything?

Tyres it depends on your budget, and preference. I went for UC6 because I usually drive fast and go outstation, and so far grip very good especially in the wet the downside is tyre noise. Other people might go for Michelin PS4/5 and some might go for Comfort tyres so it really depends on you.. You can ask your tyre shop for recommendations. No need to go honda to change LOL

Totally agree with you on this. It is ridiculous that even the Toyota cars have the option to play videos and connect to new Bluetooth phones when the car is in motion.

I wonder whether are there any workshops that can modify the headset unit that you guys can recommend.
*
My 2017 Hrv has the option to sync the time... Even tho there are no car play option.. LoL looks like honda cheap out again

My take however, and seeing how the Civic hybrid is also positioned, even for heavy footers, the HRV hybrid is still a decent choice especially if it's mainly city driving, stop go etc.

The only weakness is past 60-80 kph where everything runs out of breath lol.
Anything below however, there's no denying that instant electric torque.

So bouncy.. Hmm..

Over stiff, on that wavy section roads

Put it this way, it's so badly done, my other sports coupe is even more comfortable than a family HRV 😂 laugh.gif
*
Yea, the previous gen HRV is way too soft. Now, they decided to change it to overly stiff... But who knows maybe it need time to break in? haha

Lookie who we have here  notworthy.gif

Just came back from showroom and booked the V-spec. Willing to take the last available 2023 unit even though going into 2024 already. Tested the RS first, then the V-spec immediately after. And for me, power is essential. Should be getting the car within the week. Love the RS black roof liner but that can be modded in time  sweat.gif
*
V spec can always modify to RS spec.. Just see if you have the time or not. Cost wise. It will definitely be cheaper.

Good choice V spec... Save the money for better tints

Guys,

My car started giving back that similar steering rack issue sound again lately. The steering rack and absorber mount was changed 3 years ago when it first happened at 5 years old age. But it came back last 2-3 months. So, this time it looked like the steering rack (including the rack end and ball-joint end) and the motor is still fine. We changed the steering column coupling but the "kruk kruk" sound is still there. The lower arm and it's bushing is also still fine. I'm running out of ideas where this sound is coming. Even the engine mount was replaced too (but this one confirmed damaged). Wanted to fix the car and sell it off the coming few months. Anyone came across something similar?
*
How did the sound happen? When you turn your wheel left and right, or when driving/on uneven roads?

On uneven roads mostly but steering movement to left and right also produces the sound.
*
Previously, where did you change it? Is it original, China, or rebuilt?

My HRV I've managed to claim in 2022 @ 60k KM before the warranty ends. Till now, 78k KM without issues. But it could also be the way I turn the steering with light force/ movements and try not to go all the way to the end.

My mechanic friend changed for me. It is an original Honda made in Malaysia. There were other choices (Thailand, China tier 1 & 2, half cut) but we bite the bullet and bought original. HM didn't want to honour the warranty despite it just passed 2 weeks after warranty despite the car was barely used during MCO. The entire steering rack, lower arm, and the rest of supporting parts are very soft on HM cars. My friend changed many steering rack on HM cars. Hoping to fix this so the 2nd hand value is okayish.
*
Do go and have a mechanic take a look. Hopefully, it's just the ball joint that went bad. If it is not too serious, wait till it is very bad, then only go change it. Like mine.. got lose sound when going over bumps from front left and right, and until now I still could not find the issue.

Yea, older gen HRV's are soft on the suspension which causes lots of issues. But honestly speaking, if it's not that serious, just leave it till it goes bad save your time and money to keep changing.

Sending to HM to get their opinion tomorrow. Even the new HM cars has similar issue and heard that steering rack claim can be only made once in 5 years.
*
You will come back with a bill of 10K+ for the whole suspension... Tried before haha

Honda SC told me it's the steering rack again although I am a bit skeptical.
They didn't even take out a single nut from my car and just hoisted it up and used some sound detector device to come to a conclusion it is the steering rack.
The mechanic looks clueless and was standing there and walking around not knowing what to do.
He was waiting for his colleague to give their opinion on the issue while I was standing behind the glass watching him from start to end. And this cost RM81.
I'm bringing to the car to another mechanic outside for 2nd opinion.
*
Sometimes, I feel like those mechanics in SC aren't really mechanics. They are based on what it's told to do in SOP compared to outside. But don't get me wrong, I've met WS outside, who don't even know how to diagnose properly and just charge you.

FYI it's really hard to tell if its really the problem, as no mechanic is going to waste their time. What I did was ask them to disassemble, but I'll pay them, which I really don't mind. Compare to them see, look. Ok RM 60/80 LOL

assume it need replacement every 10k km or 6 months  devil.gif

So, you better keep your Annual leave to send your car to SC for warranty claim. Then, after 5 years, prepare 6k or 2k for steering rack replacement.

Why nobody do steering rack upgrade for Honda? Will be very profitable haha.
