hi guys

coming from cherry mx black, would there be a huge difference in typing and gaming feels if i were to switch to cherry mx red or mx speed?

im planning to switch from cm quickfire rapid mx black to either ducky shine 6 red or speed, or do you guys have any other mkb recommendation that has RGB at a lower price point but close enough build quality?

the most obvious difference is the spring weights. the actuation force for red/speed is 45cN, while black is 60cN.

for red/speed users (me included), black is stiffer. this affects typing speed. (i touch type usually. the same force that i use on red sometimes doesn't actuate keys on black) in your case, you might misfire hehe (because red are relatively lighter to you) however it's not that obvious for gaming.

all in all, just give them a try at shops with demonstration units of red/speed.

as for the build quality, ducky users should give you better ideas.

ended up with ducky one tkl red. it does feel lighter, and it's sort of giving me the 'cheap' feeling when typing on it. i've had several misfires already but ill prolly get used to it heh biggrin.gif

QUOTE(irsyadfy @ May 21 2018, 08:53 AM)
I have used black and red. The stiffer feels on black is kinda nice for me during gaming. Coz i like to "pound" on my keys.

But typing wise, its heavy n tiring.

I miss my black kibod. sad.gif
*
heh just realized it's you biggrin.gif

guys, are there any local sellers that sell those transparent keycaps for maximum RGB effect?

ok. not sure how red switches gave you a 'cheap' typing feel, but i guess it might be just the transition smile.gif

Prolly cause id associate weight with build quality and them being lighter to the press compared to my black keycaps

But yea ill get used to it over time. I somewhat felt that this keyboard is also less noisy when typing than when I was using my QFR mx black

Have you tried cherry mx black before? wouldn't like it.

when you press..... it's hard..... think of a spring you press on it, but the spring is very hard. thats how i would describe it. imagine typing on that half the day at work  sad.gif
*
yup, i have been using it for the past 6 years actually and liked it. but i had no choice but to go for red switches when i changed my keyboard cause there's no one selling mx blacks

QUOTE(Moogle Stiltzkin @ May 27 2018, 02:18 AM)
what was your impression going from black to red? too soft?

when i first tried red, the linear push down so soft, push all the way down o-O; quite easily.

having been comfortable on brown, i didn't really feel the need to go for a red, put it that way. i'm not pro gamer, so as casual brown works great for me.
*
it's softer to the touch, in the beginning it somewhat gave me the cheap feeling cause i was used to the tougher mx black and another reason why i can think of the 'cheap' feeling was because the keycaps on this ducky one makes the more 'click' sound than my old CM QFR which makes more of a 'clack' sound.

i've also had some misfires while typing but im starting to get used to it heh, and my current keyboard doesnt sound as loud as my previous one while typing. in terms of fatigue, i've never felt tired typing on the black switch so switching to red didnt seem like an improvement for me on this department.

gaming wise i did not feel any noticeable difference in terms of response, they feel pretty much the same to me biggrin.gif

QUOTE(horns @ May 27 2018, 02:56 AM)
it's rare because there is very limited user demand in general.

misfired a lot?
*
a little, only while quick typing though biggrin.gif

i think it's an individual preference hehe personally i prefer caps with legends at the top.

heh i actually like blank keycaps cause they look clean to me biggrin.gif

only difficulty for me is sometimes typing numbers in cause once i look at the keyboard, i kinda get amnesia on where the numbers are on the 2nd row biggrin.gif

Realised that the actuation point is very short compared to membrane, I know I shouldn’t compared them but the fact that this is my first mkb I just can’t help. A keystroke is registered just by resting my fingers on the keyboard.
*
you'll get used to it

i've had several misfires when i switched from black to red and now they don't feel too light anymore biggrin.gif

it isn't that hard removing keycaps from the costar stabs tbh, what i did was place the stabs into the keycaps and then 'hook' them onto the metal. but now im with this cherry stabs and i like it more cause of how plug n play it is biggrin.gif

I think beginner should actually buy cheap stuff, so they could learn from there. My first mechanical keyboard is Ajazz, when i came to soldering then only i realized Kailh, Gateron, Cherry switches are the key of the mechanical keyboard. Which you could easily get it from the market. Now i am getting another mech keyboard, with gateron switches.  : biggrin.gif  rclxms.gif

I personally thinks the RGB is totally pointless, which doesn't affect your gaming performance. May be the leds' lights could motivate him?  biggrin.gif
*
it's nice to customize your keycap colors without needing to constantly replace them actually when you have RGB biggrin.gif

Okay. I think i am still newbie. I didn't even know how to customize the led's light for the key. I only know some general functions like when we press it it will have the light with different pattern.  biggrin.gif
*
yea it depends on the controller's capability. but if they can do different pattern, they surely can do a static color biggrin.gif

ofc IMO it will never be as good as having the actual keycap itself in the particular color biggrin.gif

imo the best way is typing with eyes on screen, and let your fingers do the job.

yup, blank keycaps kinda forces you to do that
