Alright, I'm looking a newbie in photography and looking for a sub-1500 camera (including at least 1GB memory card) with good image quality (including night shot), reasonable battery life and good design will be a plus point.

Currently I'm considering these few after some research:

1. Fujifilm Finepix F40fd
2. Sony DSC T20
3. Sony DSC T100 (cool but over-budget)
4. Panasonic Lumix FX30
5. Canon IXUS 850 IS
6. Any good models from Nikon/Olympus?

Your suggestion is precious...thanks in advance notworthy.gif

Consider only Fuji F31fd and Nikon P5000, forget about the rest.

If u really can't live without SD card, then only Fuji F40fd vs Nikon P5000

This is cool, but rather a bit heavy

The 10X zoom is optical or digital?

Yeah, in fact Fuji f40fd is my first choice for now because of the price and good feedback XD

Yes, I consider F40fd over F31fd because of the SD. P5000 seems like a prosumer rather than compact P&S to me sweat.gif

Yes, P5000 is a prosumer in compact size, same price as F40fd and got VR

10x optical zoom? Not bad...

How much is it? Tried to do some search in Garage sales but S10 is rather rare.

For my usage which is really pure point and shoot and don't really need to zoom that far, I choose T20. I tried the T20 and was satisfied with it, really changed the bad impression I had with the T10. Fuji is good too but it isn't really suitable for me as I don't have steady hands. tongue.gif

why dont you take a SD card with you, go to shop and try those camera then go back home and see the picture quality?

Actually today i want to do so to compare F40fd and P5000 to test out the ISO1600 for both camera however P5000 seems like over sold. all shops in 1U no stock.

P5000 seems like a cross between compacts P&S and prosumer. smile.gif comes with hot-shoe some more.

Does f40fd need REALLY steady hands? I read a review somewhere saying that though there's no optical image stabilizer, minor shake won't be producing blurry images.

Need some opinions on this, as I don't have steady hands either tongue.gif

If I'm not wrong they will use the ISO in place of the stabilizer. Shots that I take at low light conditions will be blur if there is no stabilizer. sad.gif

Guess as a noob, I'll get T20 instead. I'll see if I manage to go to Sg Wang tomorrow. I'm offered RM1350 for

- T20
- Sony Soft leather case
- 2GB MSPD

It isn't that bad after all considering it uses BIONZ engine now which I think is so much better plus it is a very compact camera too. biggrin.gif

Got myself a T20 as per yongkailoon's recommendation thumbup.gif

Nice design, the white colour looks special, but never have time to try it yet. Thread closed as I already got my camera
