KUALA LUMPUR, 28 Feb ― Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM) mahu lebih ramai kaum bukan Melayu menyertai organisasi pertahanan itu agar dapat mengukuhkan lagi perpaduan dalam kalangan anggota dan masyarakat.

Panglima ATM Jen Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor berkata ATM tidak pernah menutup peluang mana-mana kaum untuk menyertainya.

“Saya menyeru kaum India, Cina, dan lain-lain kaum untuk menceburi bidang ketenteraan,” katanya kepada pemberita selepas merasmikan upacara Perasmian Op Perisai Akidah Peringkat ATM dan Pelancaran Buku Akidah Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah di Auditorium MINDEF, Wisma Pertahanan di sini, semalam.

Beliau mengulas dakwaan Persatuan Veteran Cina Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (MACVA) dalam satu portal berita tempatan Sabtu lepas bahawa kerajaan “terlalu memilih” dalam merekrut kaum Cina yang mahu menyertai bidang ketenteraan dan kepolisan.

Presidennya, Mejar (B) Tan Pau Son dilaporkan berkata lebih 100 anggota kaum Cina mahu menyertai pasukan itu sejak dua tahun lepas tetapi ditolak atas alasan “mereka tidak cukup baik”. ― Bernama

i really wanted to become a fighter pilot but signing up for military felt like signing my freedom away coz need to enter camp and let yourself be abused through training and possibly ragging as well so I stayed away.

In the 50s right up to the 70s, the army was like 40-50% non-malays......then you know what happened, that's why no one joined since then. There are so many retired non-malay majors, colonels, captains. You can be qualified but you juniors will overtake you......many left because they couldn't go up further because you know.

Taman Melawati has a lot of these people.

Military, like any job, promotion is given by a board of pipul, not by a computer that automatically levels u up by qualification. When u don't get promoted, u must have done something to piss off the wrong pipul.
