QUOTE(RoastedChicken @ Aug 15 2018, 11:32 PM) I don't feel fatigue anymre. Just craving for watwr. Now usually deink coffee without sugar just fresh milk. My toe still numb to now. 5.4 fasting is a good number. If you fast and hit above 7 or 8, that's bad. But one test doesn't define anything. If you maintain the number, that's good. If it keeps going up and down, then it's bad. So you've got to do more tests. Either that, you can go get a blood test called HBA1C, which tests your average blood glucose over the last 3 months. It's good that you take the initiative to monitor blood glucose the moment you feel the difference. But for your toe to feel numb, you have to be having diabetic for a long time. The blood thickens and couldn't flow all the way to your toe (which is furthest away from heart). But best to have it checked, coz even if it's not diabetic, it could be something else. |

To be frank 5.4 after 12 hour fasting do show insulin resistance. You’re not diabetic yet but on the way to be there.

So family history might not be accurate. My grandpa didnt know until he s late 70s and hurt his foot. The wound quickly escalate to very bad then only knew he got diabetes.Try fasting for 10 hours and retest. So far, all my blood test usually requires me to fast for 10 hours. Are you using prick machine? Have you always use it? Check if the test strip has expired? |

Fasting blood glucose uses blood via venepuncture, not via finger prick. Try fasting for 10 hours and retest. So far, all my blood test usually requires me to fast for 10 hours. Do you mean the reading from finger prick blood is not accurate?Finger prick blood is actually capillary blood which there is no benchmark for values to diagnose diabetes. Just to clarify, I don't see glucose meter as the diagnosis of diabetes, more like monitoring. But isn't it if we see frequently get weird readings, it's a cue to see a doctor for diagnosis? I have been using glucose meter to monitor if there's any anomaly because there's history in my family. Does it means my effort is useless? QUOTE(lowlowc @ Nov 28 2018, 10:35 AM) Interesting... Do you mean the reading from finger prick blood is not accurate? Finger prick blood glucose will always show a higher value and higher inconsistency than venous glucose. Finger prick is more towards a guide for stuff like blood glucose before feeding and 2 hours after feeding, where the patient keeps a diary and to guide what food at what amount will affect more or less of the blood glucose. The numbers are not to be taken at face value. |
