If you live in Klang Valley and KL primarily, avoid Maxis and Hotlink.

Nowadays Maxis network is highly congested and unresponsive in KL. I've been getting assistive GPS signals when using Maxis. Before this came from Telco U. Hardly have any issues connecting to GPS signal detection. For some reason I feel like Waze hates Maxis's network.

Reception signal can be full but speedtest results tell otherwise, it can't take the traffic and register 3G HSPA speeds or worst. Even their 4G+ network can only attain 10M-20M at most.

I'm thinking now of porting out from this miserable telco. Oversubscribed and making no efforts to improve their 4G network when Telco-U and C now making lots of effort to win customers over.

That's weird. I am using Maxis around Klang Valley and I found not much problem on the network. Wherever I go,  mostly I get signal and the speed has been very consistent even for indoors and outdoors.  My speedtest shown above 30Mbps most of the time. Speaking of Waze, no issue as well as I can get consistent GPS signals.
*
Which part of Klang Valley?

The area where I am, Kepong Baru, Manjalara, and Damansara Perdana the Maxis experience here is damn awful.

Got 4G+ but speeds is like around 10M only.Peak hours worst the speed is like ADSL 4M-7M.

QUOTE(fms21 @ Apr 17 2019, 04:55 PM)
maybe ur phone reception already broken a bit..
I believe Maxis is the best in KL town..
*
I change phone almost every 6 months. Currently on SD660 phone on latest Xiaomi Global stable firmware.
How can be phone reception broken? The Maxis SIM I just change also new.

QUOTE(alexleow81 @ Apr 17 2019, 06:24 PM)
Yes, Maxis is the best in KL town at the moment!
*
Nope. The clear winner for Klang Valley is Celcom's network which includes all its MVNOs such as TuneTalk, XOX etc.
Seriously Celcom invests significantly in its Klang Valley network particularly KL and its surrounding areas.

QUOTE(jusbella @ Apr 17 2019, 07:25 PM)
Yes maxis is best in all area, I've been with maxis 15 years and been use in all area from jb till bkt kayu hitam don't have any issue.
*
Dear, I'm talking about Klang Valley not JB till BKH. I've seen Maxis hit close and over 100M in other cities such as JB, Ipoh and Penang. But not in KL surroudning except KLCC or Puchong area which is Maxis's stronghold.

I'm talking about Kepong, Segambut, Sentul and Damansara areas. Maxis line is very congested in these areas. I do not recommend Maxis to my friends in these areas.

I am at Bandar Sri Damansara area. Maxis at my phone able to reach 70-80Mbps here. I am using Huawei. Xiaomi phones depends, some are not really network capable to reach the higher speed due to hardware limitations. Celcom speeds sucks here. Maxis clear winner!
*
Huawei's Kirin line of processors are inferior to Snapdragon. Not being able to Snapdragon latest series of processors is not an excuse.

Meanwhile at the same spot where Maxis's 4G+ fails, I use DiGi immediately saw a speedtest result of 70M+ at peak hours during weekend. How do you explain this Maxis rep?Even Umobile is consistently stable though its capped at 5M.

I tried on Digi 4G+ and U Mobile 4G, both cannot delivery faster speeds like Maxis 4G+.
*
DiGi's performance in Kepong Baru, Manjalara, Damansara blows Maxis's lame 4G+ away. 70+mbps vs 10-20Mbps?
Umobile don't say la GX50 capped to 5Mbps but its always consistently stable at that speed. Good for streaming on the go. You want fast speed downloads, connect to your own home/office Wifi.

QUOTE(bananabro @ Apr 22 2019, 07:19 PM)
Thanks for the info.. hows the overall i ternet performance? Im planning to port in soon.
*
Depends on your area. Ternet performance in Klang Valley is below average and lousy for Maxis. Only certain areas such as their HQ KLCC, Puchong and Cyberjaya good. Elsewhere even Desa Park City, Kepong Baru and Manjalara all the way through Sri Damansara, Damansara Perdana, Duta Maxis speeds are horrible.

Have you bought the phone yet? How much is the advance payment?
*
That's the catch.

The advance payment is 12mths X RM30 = RM360 on top of whichever phone you choose.

If RM199 phone means RM199 + RM360 advance payment.

RM559 upfront before you can take the phone home.

RM30 will be rebated from your RM60 monthly payment for the next 12 mths. Meaning you only pay RM30 per month + SST.

Look at the speed @ Hotlink Postpaid Flex.
Area: Bandar Sri Damansara

This is to answer critics by one forumers here claimed that u mobile and digi is faster. Maxis is faster than u mobile and digi. This is the proof.
*
Beg to differ.

DiGi is way better than Maxis here at Kepong Manjalara and Bandar Sri Damansara

user posted image

In fact if you look at your jitter rate for Maxis it shows a spike of over 100ms. Very bad line quality there. At least 10X as worse than DiGi's.

The ping rate not much difference la. Aiyah, the most important thing is stability and less congestion. So far no complaints on Maxis smile.gif  thumbup.gif  thumbsup.gif
*
100ms over jitter/spike is very serious issue. It means the connection is very unstable.

Also Hotlink FLEX lacks behind DiGi significantly. Its speed is capped like 30M only from experience(from bad experience using the postpaid FLEX plan).

Maxis network does not support VoLTE over 4G network yet so everytime you make a call, your line will drop back to 3G/H+ which is very outdated tech.

For DiGi, your 4G signal will not be dropped when making calls because VoLTE is already enabled unless there's no 4G coverage in your area.

I have a question, are Hotlink Flex Postpaid Plus users capped at 30M?

Using Hotlink Postpaid Flex Plus Rm60 with 10GB data quota only but speed cannot exceed 30Mbps bot up/down 24/7 despite testing my speed with Maxis server.

Can anyone confirm? I test with DiGi, UMobile, Yes and Unifi Mobile all have 4G+ in my area with speeds over 80M but not my Hotlink Flex Plus.

RM60 + SST is not cheap and only given 10GB data monthly.

Yup can confirm now the phone I'm using on Hotlink Flex I took it to other places to test and it went upto 60Mbps so it means the place I'm based now is highly congested with Maxis users.

Looking at Hotlink Postpaid Flex offerings again, they are geared towards promoting the Hotlink Postpaid Flex + Maxis Home Fibre 30Mbps package for RM99/month, which basically means a discount of RM60/month, and that’s huge!

So there is also a chance that we won’t see them revamping the Hotlink Postpaid Flex plan anytime soon as their main aim is to sign-up people for the bundle Hotlink Postpaid Flex package and not a standalone Hotlink Postpaid Flex line. How I wish Maxis Unlimited Postpaid and Fibre gets some discount too since it’s a bundled product, but all we get is unlimited mobile data.
*
But there's risk also to those who are standalone Hotlink Flex Plus users. They'll feel that their plan is overpriced for RM60+SST while many unlimited call prepaid plan options are available in the market now. It is still considered Postpaid because users are being billed while the plan only offers 10GB all use data + 10GB Youtube.

If anyone switches to the new Hotlink Prepaid Video plan, there is a RM60 pass that sort of comes with better offering, as in it comes with 10GB full speed data, 20GB video data and unlimited calls. Only thing missing is unlimited SMS.

Yes. There is a chance of existing Hotlink Postpaid customers switching to either Hotlink Prepaid Unlimited or Hotlink Prepaid Video. But otherwise, it depends on what type of customers Hotlink Postpaid is going after. As the prepaid segment is getting cheaper and better every year, I can see Maxis following Thailand telco footstep for their postpaid offering, as in they will start focusing more and more on selling bundle products (mobile postpaid + home fibre). This is probably why Maxis has been extremely aggressively in expanding its fibre footprint. As a matter of fact, it’s the only Big 3 that has home fibre coverage that is as wide as TM, or wider now since Maxis also partners with Allo too.
*
It actually comes with unlimited SMS. Using it with RM1 phone bundle last time with RM360(12XRM30) upfront.
Also many already on Maxis Home Fibre under contract, prevented from switch over.

Are you referring to the RM60 pass on Hotlink Prepaid Video ? Because I was referring to this pass not offering unlimited SMS, not Hotlink Postpaid.

Hotlink Postpaid Flex Plus 60 comes with unlimited calls/sms with 10GB all data /10GB Youtube.

Finally, I have signed up the hotlink postpaid at Maxis Center after I can't found my favorite number for Hotlink prepaid after search local shop and online shop. I managed to get 6 out of 7 number matched that I prefer (4 digit number max each search) with 017 prefix. Initially search for 012 prefix number, but most of my favorite number is not available ( my favorite number is not VIP or golden number) and also try to search golden number or vip but not available too. It seems like 012 prefix probably out of unused numbers because every new search it will display 0 to 3 options available (mostly not available for vip and golden no.) 4 digit numbers randomly in front , center or last 4 matched digit numbers. No wonder they want to reserve 012 exclusive for the maxis postpaid. While 017 prefix, easily to get 7 to 10 matched number for you to choose. I did not further search for others since got my wanted number after the search.

I choose RM30 + Unlimited Social package (RM 10) package with no contract. I can port out to other telco after 1 month or to Hotlink Prepaid after 6 months. But i think i will port out after 1 month because the price is expensive and not worth to stay except Maxis revised the plan within a month to match with hotlink prepaid.
I asked the Maxis staff when will be the bill cycle but he seems buat bodoh saja. After I read this thread from beginning, one forum member posted that the bill cycle will be on 23rd every month and will be prorate but not the add on ( unlimited social or unlimited chat). If he told earlier, I will not sign up the Hotlink Postpaid and wait until 24th only sign up the package. cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif Just left a week to bill cycle but kena full charge for the add on.

Oh ya, I can confirmed that all the Hotlink Prepaid Red and Super sim pack will be expiring on 31 Dec 2020 based on stock at maxis center, local shop and online shop.
*
For me, the last time signed up for Hotlink Flex I was given the choice to choose a VIP golden number. It was still new back then so 012 numbers were plenty to choose from.

Regretted my action despite the number was so nice. For the next 6 months I was spammed with all sorts of property auctions & deals, wrong invitations to events not directed to me, even overdue TNB bills. I registered WeChat and found out that the number was previously owned by some Aunty from Seremban.

This was a lesson to me that in future not to touch VIP numbers. Many of them are recycled numbers due to their popularity. I would prefer some random number which is easy to remember with a peace of mind. More likely to be virgin, non-recycled, harder to remember so people won't bug you all the time and easier to obtain, no need to get tied up on contracts/forced to take up expansive plans or buy them through auctions. It's not worth the hassle and trouble.

My new number is recycle number where previous owner is Malay owner based on the facebook registration exist. So far yet to receive any spam sms and call. If got, I have to terminate the line..
*
It was quite annoying then, almost every week sure got unknown people calling up, property auction invitation sms, ads coming in few times. I ignored all of them and have no time to follow each and every one of them to tell them that this number does not belong to the aunty anymore.

Until today once in a while the ads and TNB unsettled bill warning SMS are still coming in.. vmad.gif

First day register still not yet use the service sudah kena bill yet I have to pay RM10 add on that not even insert sim to the phone until today.... last time i use prepaid Maxis telan my money and i angry port out from it. Now it repeat again. Really Max Shit!! ranting.gif  ranting.gif

Next month cancel or port out from the service..betul betul CB punya!!! why can't you bill next month?
maybe this number is sial or puaka.

The RM10 add on follows the same day as your line activation. You go any celco also like that. For simplicity purpose your bill is prorated to the bill cycle date when you first start using the service.

What is so angry about this? As a complimentary goodwill, your monthly quota is not prorated so let's say you have 10 more days to bill cycle end, you're still getting the full month's data quota allocation on the first month as compensation.

Assuming Maxis Postpaid do get priority connection, the green card shown above won’t get it because I noticed that’s a Hotlink Postpaid account. The system will recognise your account plan, not the color of your SIM. They are supposed to send out a red sim since it’s for Hotlink Postpaid, but some staffs just grab whatever sim they see, scan the barcode to the system and link your number to the SIM card.
*
Correct, the SIM card is just an inventory tied to your account. It's your account profile which is limits your speed.

Also I found a serious flaw in Maxis's network which is causing the slowdowns. It's Band 7 connections is usually the culprit that messes with your connection from getting optimal speed.

If you've a phone/modem cannot pre-select bands or allow CA to mixed bands but rely on auto assignment, you'll usually get slower speeds due to Band 7 signals with smaller bandwidth will override Band 3 with wider bandwidth when locking on bands. Your speed will usually cut down by half.

How to check the band type and how to lock it using android phone? But pointless for those with limited data package but benefits for the unlimited.
*
You can use your phone's manufacturer's toolkit or engineer mode to disable/enable preferred bands. Some requires heightened root priviledge to do so.

If you've Mediatek chipset phones can use a tool called MobileUncle Tools app to disable certain bands on your phone.
