I've been using Phillips monitor which I think is using TN panel for around 2 years now. I was thinking to upgrade to an IPS monitor.
Budget wise, only in the price range of these 2 monitor. sweat.gif

it just that, im doing some 3D modelling and rendering, some AAA gaming. Not sure whether gaming on ultrawide will affect the performance or not. In dilemma as the panel on the Dell monitor looks so superior compared to the LG one, or is it the same ? hahaha

i'll try to break it down for you

LG 29UM59A
pros:
- wider ( around 30% wider not too wide )
- it's not curved, kinda hard to see the edges from right and left pane.
- color accuracy same with U2417H
- 75hz refresh rate is much smoother than the 60hz U2417H ( no need graphics card for 75hz to work)
- i like watching movies or youtube here, the black screen on the sides gives like a cinema effect.

Cons:
- low monitor stand height, i used a monitor mount for better viewing.
- 2560x1080 require more GPU power if you want play full screen gaming. (30-40% more, GTX 1060 recommended, my 1050Ti dropped from 70fps to 50-60fps on fullscreen )
- height a bit smaller than 24 inch, it's like 23 inch height x 29 inches wide

Dell U2417H

pros:
- sleek design , small bezel
- stand is height adjustable
- uses mini dp for better video quality
- has 2 usb inputs ( i plug in my keyboard to my monitor since cpu is far, cable cannot reach. )
- less demanding, can play high end games with GTX 1050 or 1050Ti ( 1920x1080p)
- slightly better color? but not that significant
- the height dimension of the screen accommodates more for gaming.

cons:
- lower refresh rate
- bulkier and heavier? but more better material quality
- expensive for the price.

wahhhh, thank you sooo much for listing the pros and cons. So when playing games, does the extra 15Hz give you better experience ? I think the color for ips panel doesnt differ that much right, it is still better than tn panel. I love multi monitor setup, do you think I should get the ultrawide rather than the Dell one ?

the color for both monitor is almost the same, for daily use the 75hz is noticable.

if you're buying the DELL U2417H for 1k rm, then better buy a 27 inch for better experience ( ACER / AOC / Samsung )

If you're going the LG 29UM59 it's worth it but get at least GTX 1060 to maximize it for gaming.

I see, right now, im leaning toward the LG one, as for 27" FHD, I've tried using a friend's, it is kinda pixelated for me

Hi There

Judging from your needs, I believe your workload is the same as me..

I currently using the LG29 inch, 2560 x 1080 pixles.

Mainly I use it for 3dsMax modelling and rendering, as well color and photo editing with Photoshop and some other view software.

So far, I have no regret and have been happy with the LG29 inch monitor. the color accuracy is there for our work field.

the wider screen did help us a lot for viewport modelling area, with some material / modifier tab open.

even for general usage, Ms Excel and Word, it still works nicely.

my only complain for this LG29 inch is it will be quite pushing the graphic card if do plan to play some game.
since the resolution is wide, its going to struggle the graphic card a little bit more compared to normal 1920 x 1080 monitor.

but again, that aside, this monitor works really well..

Hope this help.
