I think this phone has more to offer than previous version, depending on how the rumours turned out.

If you upgrade from S7 to S8, you are getting lesser than what you'll get when you upgrade from S8 to S9. Stereo speaker, dual aperture, ar emoji.

I was never a fan of marketing hype like infinity screen and it still stay that way. What you should look at are features that are long due such as stereo speaker. Last but not least, it will be the processing power. It seem like Samsung finally got the formulae right. The numbers are awesome.

stereo speaker,

why? to annoy everyone around you? or to get sub par experience from the mobile?

I don't really care about others. Go and report to the police if you got a problem with that.

I don't think u will see much improvement on performance and display. Maybe on the stereo speakers. Design is the same too.
*
If you are looking for cpu performance, probably the 20% or so increase won't change much. However the gpu upgrade when playing games will be much improved. Right now I'm only getting 50-55fps when running fhd+.

i wonder why would you compare them side by side when note 8 is obviously 6 months behind s8.

we all know note is 1 generation behind, hence they moved the number note 7 ( and the fire fiasco).

note 8 is not a better S8, its a lousier S9.
*
I'm amazed this sort of mind bending argument still happens nowadays. Note 8 is just Note 8, what's up being a lousy S9 when they shared no similarity at all?

Just accept a product as it was and do a spec comparison instead of doing a timeline.

S9 is just S9. It's much improved from S8. Probably you'll feel that with the pricing which is rumoured similar to Note 8, you'll get more value with Note 8 which had Spen and 6gb ram, it's fine to think that way. However that still doesn't make Note 8 a lousier S9. It won't have the dual aperture, nor will it have stereo speaker. Besides the newer soc will be 20-30% faster.

Let's try to not complicate things because phone's are unlike pc. You can't really switch the internal which make each one of them unique in their own respective way.

The mechanical aperture is actually a big deal to photo fanatic

The next step would be mechanical shutter. I wonder if anyone would even try to do that.

I dont think on screen fingerprint scanner will gain much popularity without sacrificing display quality. Actually I havent used my fingerprint scanner at all for 2weeks after my finger start peeling skin. It still couldnt read properly. Been using Iris scanner and it seem to works even better nowadays.

I also been using bixby to unlock the phone. What I didnt like about bixby voice unlock is that it still try to use recognition which is not necessary. Why cant they make it so it will verify the particular short burst of voice and match the tone/pitch instead. I have been using bixby quite often ever since I discovered that it can even set off my samsung robot vacuum with just voice command. If only Samsung had the same thing for their tv and aircon (Im already using their triangle ac).

Anyone managed to find any video on speaker comparison between S8 and S9?

Combination of both fingerprint and iris scanner is useful to me.. iris scanner unlock is useful when i'm using glove (i'm working in lab). But it is not practical when in dark and driving. So fingerprint to be used. So at least for me its a bliss to have both.. Haven't really use Bixby voice unlock because if i reach out for the bixby button i might as well just tap the fingerprint scanner.. and also i just still feel awkward to talk to a phone laugh.gif
*
Well, I find that iris scanner works in the dark as well. However I find that it works better if you swipe up and get the 2 circles.

As for Bixby unlock, all you need is hi Bixby and then your voice password to unlock.

i dont think on screen fingerprint scanner will sacrifice the display quality because the sensor sits under the display. Watch mkbhd for better understanding. Bixby password can be tricked if someone record your voice they can unlock it using bixby.

*
That's why I propose using tonal verification instead or voice recognition which is what Samsung implement now.

Not yet at this moment. But based on some youtubers first impression, mkbhd said the improvement is not that significant, only louder a bit. While the others such as Android authority said it's quite loud, a lot louder.

So I guess it's all based on personal perception afterall.
*
I found them already. AndroidAuth has compared them in his video. Quite impressive since he was comparing with S8.

QUOTE(un_id @ Feb 26 2018, 12:48 PM)
I take that back, actually i opted to use face recognition, not iris, i just tried iris for a short period of time.. i find face recognition is easier to use than iris because no need to swipe to unlock, just press the bottom of the screen to wake screen and it unlock almost instanly.. but maybe less security but thats fine for me
*
Actually Iris scanner also no need swipe. Just that I found it easier to scan when outdoor if swipe up.

QUOTE(off_shore @ Feb 26 2018, 01:25 PM)
Try not to use too much of iris scanner as it uses a kind of light which is harmful to your eyes in long run.

I realized my eyes teared a lot after using it for a few days

No problem...

u need to improve ur english understanding before hitting reply button.

pattern unlock is more secure than face unlock.
*
This is never ending debate. If you're talking which is more secure, it has to be your face since its unique unless you have a twin. But since it can be fooled with a picture, that makes it vulnerable. It's the same for unique pattern. It's unique in its own way but could be repeatedly abused to guess the pattern.

There's REALLY no winner here.

Since when buying high-end phone will untung one? Even used for a month then sell like Uncle Benny also rugi few hundreds. Let alone for your 1 years old phone.

That's why I won't waste anymore money on sp, skin, etc. Just bought a durable case and use it naked. The RV going to drop anyway. Why let the buyer enjoy the brand new screen when you who paid the premium didn't get to enjoy it.

That's only if you have the Samsung Screen warranty..
*
I bought it from q10. Where got extended warranty. It doesn't matter to me though. The only time I ever had a screen crack is when my son drop my iPad onto my s6e. Never crack my screen ever since using smartphone.

My S6e survive bare naked from day 1 until now. Never even used a case. Just that I consider getting a case for s8 because of the chrome finish on metal is slippery. I think they should make the metal frame matte finish.

Ok, great. It could be possible. After all don't believe everything you read on the internet.

Anyway, one just have to take good care of their phone. By that I don't mean you have to splurge on glass sp, or whatever. It's just a simple task, taking good care of it. Would you rush to pick it up because it rang and caller is gonna hang up soon? No, I don't. I can always call back later. Unless you're doctor perhaps. You can also dedicate a pocket for your phone which would then help you develop a habit of picking up your phone without worries. It also train your mind to be aware your phone is there and unconsciously avoid all those obstacles that may come into contact with it while it's in your pocket.

These sounds easy but how many are actually practising it. I saw many holding phone and powerbank sandwiched together in their hand. Not sure why. I would just hold the powerbank and leave the phone in my pocket. Why do I care about dropping a powerbank.

I have seen bad owners very often and I don't have to look for it. My mom is a very good example. Phones that we passed to her never survived except the RN3 (barely survived) which I quickly sold when I gave her my S6e.

how did you manage to buy s8+ at Qoo10 with that price?

Right now, even with coupon on Qoo10 need 2.9k.
*
Those days are gone... you gotta grab the opportunity when it came knocking.

Funny cause when we were all excited about buying S8 and S8+ at huge discounted rate, there were red eyes everywhere. It was not the cheapest when we first dived into the deal, RRP - RM500 voucher. Soon, it was selling even cheaper, and you even get 11st and lazada RM200 code. I think Samsung is using this tactic to increase its average selling price.

Same thing happened when we preorder Note 8 at Qoo10. Sold it to a friend's worker at 3.5k and split the difference between two of us.

No... It was 2,6xx after RM500 discount (lowest price)... definitely not 2.7k minus 500 since all those high value are for RM3k and above.

S8 was once 2,3xx

sometime it might not ur fault , define what is mean by ACCIDENTLY

when u holding the phone , someone langgar belakang u and u drop the phone , screen crack , so that when thing happen
Or when u kid having ur phone , then he might accidently drop the phone and screen crack

when u put ur phone on table , someone hit the table and ur phone drop , screen crack
why do we need insurance? Because we need to make sure our life and our family is protected in future , no matter how u take care the good , thing will happen one day sir  smile.gif

in my opinion , a case and a TG is a must for a phone , because the screen itself is super duper expensive , i seriously can't afford to keep change the screen by paying Rm1k  sad.gif

If really one day i'm so unlucky both TG and Screen crack at the same time , then i have nothing to say , because at least i already try to protect my phone but it stil accidently drop  cry.gif
*
Yes. I do not disagree that there might be accidental crack. I experienced it once when my S6e screen cracked when my son dropped my ipad onto it.

1) I basically do not prefer to give my son my phone. Even when my wife or me let them watched youtube, it will be placed on the table and not their palm.

2) You will only dropped your phone off your table if you have really messy one. Time to tidy up a little bit.

Accidents do happen, but most of it can be prevented if you just exercise some precautions. How many here guilty of walking with your phone in your hands? Thats why I said you need to take good care of it.

Also I do not discriminate if you feel the need for TG or SP. Why I voiced out is because some said to help get better RV when upgrading. My wife pre-order package came with SP and I helped her applied it. I mentioned it couple of times before in S8 threads.

The battery drain test (probably the first one ever) is out!  The S9+ in the video is Exynos variant.

We thought that since S9+ is using the newer chipset, it should have better battery life compared to S8+ due to better efficiency. But no. The result shows that it has almost exact same battery life compared to S8+.

So if you are holding S8+ and considering to change to S9+ by hoping that having better battery life, then forget about it. Camera and speaker are the only significant upgrade.

Looks like Samsung has reached to its bottle neck when it comes to battery technology. There's nothing to improve from the battery optimization. The only way to improve is to increase the battery capacity. Hopefully they will consider it in the upcomg Note 9, and S10/Note 10 next year.
*
You shouldn't be surprised. Exynos 9810 is a super wide cpu thus battery consumption will be more severe. Given the good score, personally I take performance over battery life any given day.
