As a Pixel 2 XL user, i was able to have a quick hands on demo with the Samsung S9+ in person while at Gandaria City Mall (Jakarta) at the flagship Samsung Retail store and i walked away pretty impressed by the variable aperture setting.

During my short time tinkering with the pro mode, i have to say i was pretty impressed with how it handled white balance although sometimes it was a hit or miss.

Time will tell how this new hardware feature will ultimately play out to the average and pro consumers hands.

Wow 3700 RM for the 64gb version over there... already including PPN? or not (PPN = GST)

Yes, the direct conversion means that the retail price in Indonesia is slightly cheaper than what it is being sold her at full retail price (RM3,799 for the S9+ 64BG variant?).

I'm not sure if the 12,999,000 IDR includes tax already as i didn't ask the sales person.

What's nice about it?

What i found interesting is the ability to change the aperture f-stops between f/1.5 and f/2.4 via hardware will allow you to adjust your camera for either extremely low light/shallow depth of field since both apertures are wide angle.

Anyway, as to not get overly technical - ultimately whether this feature will be deemed useful in real life situations for the end user is yet to be seen. The average consumer will stick to the default automatic settings.
