Hi,
I just bought an A. Silky Terrier. Female, 2 mths. I would like to ask; 1. Is it they love to bite for the first few months? Until when they will stop, cause she keep chasing me to bite on my toes 2. How to toilet trained her? She seems like haven't understand what I say..sigh 3. The pet shop said give her 2 meals per day, but she don't want to eat in the morning. She just take few bites then don't want anymore. Then later take few again. Any idea how to let her eat Please help. This is my first time have a puppy. Don't know how to treat and trained them. My house will held a lot of party throughout the year, so I must trained her faster to be polite (not bite and toilet trained) to the guest at least. Thanks a lot, Sharon W |

QUOTE(NewbieBetta @ Jan 8 2008, 10:01 PM) u can go to dog thread or silky thread to ask..doesnt need to make a thread of urs ma. thanks for your comments and advice... but all the advice i also have tried before (i had do researched). He seems not very responsive to what we said..she just keep chasing and biting our toes and fingers...1.puppy like to bite so u have to say NO whenever they tried too..they will start biting till they change(around 4~5month should change all ledi) all their teeth..they only change once..so becareful not to feed them hard rock kibbles.. 2.to toilet train them..u have to be patience..puppy will normally poo & pee both come together..they will do it normally after meal or after playing sometimes some will before male..u have to catch their timing..& they will sniff the floor b4 doing busniess..so u have to keep your eye on them..when u see them sniff around on a spot..its a sign for them to pee or poo..so u need to carry them to the exact place u want them to poo..same goes to pee 3.puppy need 3~4meal,depend on condition..your dog kibbles will state the portion to be given daily..u need to divide them..normally 3times a day u divide urself..& they cant eat hard kibbles yet..so u have to soak them in warm water & let the kibbles soften before feeding.. i just told u some of it only..there are much more to learn which u have to read it up yourself..do your research next time before getting a pup.. |

QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Jan 8 2008, 10:41 PM) I have merged the threads..... Conangirl, please do not open new threads. There is a puppy training guide here, search for it. It's okey Anyway, puppies are babies. When you bring a baby home, do you think the baby would understand how to pee and poo in the toilet bowl? Do you think a baby would know how to stop crying when you say the word NO? A puppy is the same. You must remember, it is like a baby, with no knowledge. It doesn't understand our words as we do not speak dog, nor does a dog speak human but they learn through experience, knowledge and the tone of our voice. NewbieBetta gave you good basic advice already. That is the basics. If you still have problems, then get hold of a puppy training book. So many of these books are available at bookshops, be it new or secondhand. Most of us here took weeks to months and years to train our dogs. We did not train them in just a few hours for them to magically understand everything. Some puppies are natural learners, they pick things fast but some are stubborn and slow, so you must be patient and consistent. Never blow your temper, never hit or scold, only scold or punish immediately after a wrong doing...... You got lots to learn, not just the puppy. You still have not even shown to your pup that you are the pack leader, so you don't get it's respect yet. I knew what you're trying to say, maybe I never raised a puppy that young before, previously all my dogs i raised them in their 6 to 8 months of age onwards. So they feel more easy with ppl around. Thanks for your advice. Anyway, today she learn a lesson. She try to bite my friend's adult shih tzu, (always do this whenever got chance)the shih tzu can't stand it anymore and bark at her (never bark and angry with her no matter what she does, VERY TAME doggy). She's so scared. Now she not dare chase and bite the shih-tzu. QUOTE(chrisoys @ Jan 9 2008, 10:14 AM) If you still can't teach your pup stop bitting. Join for the fun. Hahaha...you got really playful dog, i hope to enjoy the bites too, but she bites until bleed la. She don't want to let go although we pull her (not dare to pull too hard, afraid of hurting her). What I usually do. I will play with the pup let the pup bite my finger. Tired the pup out. I actually enjoy playing with the pup bitting my finger. The pup will keep on chasing your hand. LOL This bitting thing only happen when your pup is still young. Once they grow older the bitting will be getting lesser. No worry. Bitting is normal. Enjoy your pup naughty behaviour while you still can, pup grow up very fast. |

QUOTE(chrisoys @ Jan 14 2008, 10:44 AM) Silky Terrier with a whole body brown color is totally out of the written standard. Why you still want to breed if you know your female Silky have a serius fault. Is best study & understand your Silky bloodline before going into breeding. Study as far as you can about your Silky brother & sister, parent, grandparent & etcs. does my Mika looks pure breed?A poor quality female mate with good quality male hoping the puppies will come out like the father. You are just trying your luck. Chances are the puppies will follow the mother. Added on January 14, 2008, 12:24 pm The motto of the responsible breeder of purebred dogs is "Breed to Improve." Every dog is the best dog in the world to its owner. Responsible breeders, however, know to avoid "kennel blindness" -- in other words, they take a step back and honestly evaluate the good and bad points of their dogs before making the decision to breed. The goal of breeding, after all, is to produce a better dog and a quality pet. One of the best ways to get an objective opinion of your dog is to test it against others. Consider attending a dog show to determine how your dog measures up against the best specimens of its breed. To be an effective breeder, you should have a basic understanding of the science of genetics. Everything about your prospective puppies' health, soundness, looks, and temperament will be determined by the genes passed on by their parents, and by their parents before them. Therefore, the selection of a mating pair should not be made solely on the basis of the dog's or b****'s looks (or temperament or soundness, etc.), but should be based on an understanding of how the animal's genes contributed to its looks and of how those genes are passed on and expressed. That is why it is essential to study the pedigrees of your mating pair. The more knowledge you have as you make your selection, the more likely you are to produce a litter with the qualities you desire. QUOTE(chrisoys @ Jan 16 2008, 02:32 PM) Sensetive issue recommending product in the forum. Afriad ppl think I am crazy. Anyway here goes....... when I bath my puppy, i apply the shampoo like human; Human Product - Pantene, Sunsilk, Dove, Clairo, Chalton(Spa) & Fudge(Saloon). Pet Product - 1# All System & Biogroom I always dilute the shampoo & conditioner before applying on my dogs. Ratio Shampoo/Conditioner:Clean Water - 1 : 10 Always use conditioner after shampoo. Conditioner is a MUST in every bath. You can leave the conditioner on the dog for few minute before rinse. When using Shampoo just pour into your dog fur and lightly rub onto the fur & quickly rinse well. Don't rub & leave the shampoo too long onto your dog fur cause shampoo will clean & dry your dog fur making your dog fur easy to break. RINSE WELL on every shampoo & conditioner. One more thing. Use cold/clean water bath your dog. No need use warm water. Cold water can help reduce itching. Note: Above just a recommendation based on my personal experience. If any individual have problem excepting the above recommendation you can alway choose not to listen and do what you think best for your furkid. get wet, rub the shampoo all over, rinse. If i want to use human conditioner, can I do like this as well? can use cold water for puppy too? (2+months old only)won't get sick? |

QUOTE(chrisoys @ Jan 17 2008, 09:01 AM) Whether you are using human product or pet product. Dilute the Shampoo & Conditioner first before applying onto your dog. thanks for your advice... 2 months old still young for bathing. At the moment use wet towel to clean the pup up & use hair dry to blow dry (cold air). Wait till your pup is about 3 months old then only bath your pup using warm water. After your pup getting all the vaccination you can bath your pup using cold water. |

QUOTE(chrisoys @ Jan 18 2008, 02:26 PM) One more thing, since you own a young pup now. the wax you mean is it the black color things on the ear wall Check & Clean her ears more frequently. Usually puppies brought from breeder/petshop have ears infection problem. Due to lack of paying attention on the puppies hygine. Check for excess ears wax on the pup. Clean daily if neccessary & gradually make it weekly basis after bath. Use ears drop & cotton bud for cleaning. Don't use ears powder cause it will block & buildup more wax inside your dog/pup ears. any doggie ear drop will do is it? any brand recommend for puppy? thanks again... zeist,
i bath Mika once a week...but have no problem to bath her cause she loves water..i'm using shower nozzle to bath her..head also just pour like this but need to dry it properly after that especially ear...she likes me scratch her body when applying shampoo too....just stand there, didn't shake at all during whole bathing session..after finish only she will shakes off all the water... and Mika just get her 3rd jab...can meet in near future... she start to take heartguard on the 3rd jab, i give her chewable one (1/1) and dewormed tablet (1/4 cause she just weight at 2 kg) every month until she reach 6 months of age, the dewormed can reduce to 3 months once(actually suppose 6 months once but she's like vacuum cleaner when she's out). this month seems like many doggies events...so when should we meet ler? |

babymiki,
yeah, like andyfriends's zhu zhu, just stay there and didn't move...make the bathing easier andyfriends, mine one i need to feed myself, actually the vet said give it 6 months once after she reach 6 months old, but since Mika like vacuum cleaner, she need to take more often, 3 months once. zeist, yeah, don't shower her with too hot water..will make her skin itchy and not good for the fur too... i don't know what dewormed tablet it is cause it was prescribed separately from a bottle. For the time being i just need to give her 1/4 tablet cause she just weight at 2kg...when she reach 3 kg, need to take half liao...that's why need to weigh them every month. when is Doris 3rd jab? axoloke, as what babymiki said, you may feed your puppy with milk up to 4 months old, but of coz if reach 8 weeks liao need to include kibbles as well in their diet. But when you look at the milk powder that sell on the shelve, there stated just feed milk in few weeks right after birth only, usually after 2months old will stop taking. or maybe you can soak your kibbles with some milk and give together but remember cannot put there too long cause milk cannot expose to humidity air for too long, will spoil.. DEAR ALL, Any silky want to join when me and zeist meet up that time? Hope to know more experience and new owner that day... This post has been edited by conangirl: Mar 3 2008, 11:10 PM |

Mika won't afraid of ANYTHING...that's the big problem...she most afraid is strange places...that's why i can't take any good picture of her nowaday...need my bf help if really need one cause he will use his DSLR L lens for long distance focus to catch her in "action".
Doris bark all the day? I think she want to get your attention is it? Mika bark only when she heard of weird sound...or some sound that she don't know where it is come from... very curious little babe... as for her fur, i comb whenever it looks messy or at least once a day cause if comb too often she will looks very oily (dirty for me)...u can try feed her cod liver oil and use conditioner as recommend by vet...(mika haven't take any conditioner and the cod liver oil cause no money now |
