My sister in law who is 86 and suffers from macular degeneration. I take her to Gleneagles. Can you pm me a contact for area around Universiti Hospital. I don't mind going far if the treatment is good. My SIL also suffers from dementia and cannot tolerate long waits. She waited more than 2 hours yesterday and she started her tantrums and talks non stop all the while in the waiting room. Usually the wait is 1 hour. Even though the doctor only comes in at 10.30 am, we still have to register at 10 am. Our appointment is 10.30 am but there are other younger patients who come in earlier and so it is 1st come, 1st service.
Each treatment cost more than RM 1.000. Yesterday those who came in later than 10.30 am didn't have a place to sit. There is limited seating arrangement. The open space parking yesterday was RM11. We left at 12.30 pm.
Would appreciate somewhere where the waiting time is short and the doctor is cognizant of the special circumstance surrounding the dementia patient.
She had to climb onto the narrow bed. There is a 2 step stool beside the bed. The patient refused at first to climb up because her eyesight is not so good. Then when she lie down, the lights over the bed was extremely bright and she screamed in pain. The nurses adjusted the lights but the surgeon wondered aloud as to why the lights were dimmed. Macular degeneration causes patients to be sensitive to light.
So far we have send her for 4 treatments over a period of some years. After a lapse of time because nobody wanted to send her on account of her extreme behaviour, the specialist wanted to give monthly injections for the 1st 3 months and then bimonthly
Thanks.

Hi, could you give me feedback regarding your choice of eye surgeon. My sister in law also suffers from dementia. So I want a specialist that doesn't require her to wait long and travel so far to Gleneagles, Jalan Ampang.
We had to wait 1 to 2 hours to see the specialist even though our appointment is at 10.30 am. Those who come earlier get to see the doctor first. After registration, the nurse administers eye drop on the eyes a couple of time. But still it would be better if she was the first to go in. At the end of the long visit the dementia patient started shouting abuses at the other patients. With her brain disease, it is better to get treatment as early in the day as possible because of sundowner effect.
The treatment bed is too high for 86 years old woman to climb up. The 2 step stool is quite difficult to step on because her macular degeneration is quite bad because her 3 grown up children don't want to send her. The bed is also quite narrow.

She is very resistant to leaving the house and complains non stop when in the car.

Thank you for your help.
Mrs Yong
