with FD rate at 4.5% @ 18mths, wonder if it is still wise to self-contribute 60k p.a. to EPF ?

Epf you need to wait till old age only can take out. FD after 12months, 18 months only can take out. Just in case got emergency. FD is definitely more flexible than epf.

Both different things

If it's for emergency then FD.

If it's additional cash, then epf

Epf can still withdraw for special situation. I take it as a discipline to force save
*
It will be better if epf allows users to withdraw a small amount like rm500 per month for emergencies usage.

if only you know majority of malaysians have less than rm10k, in their epf, then you wont be saying that
*
Majority Malaysian are YOLO Swag style type. Even my epf not enough for retirement. That's why I keep thinking to take all out & start a small biz.

thats why i always say

if you are gonna take out your epf, means you dont have enough.

start reducing epf contribution if possible, then have another pot of money for small biz

don't mix up your different pots of money.

Can't. I have a habit of spending on unexpected & unnecessary items each time I go to the mall or open shopee app. Buy first regret later mentality

it is VERY scary to see the number of people asking PM10 to approve "kwsp bersasar", what on earth are they going to do when they are old?  doh.gif

I dunno. I guess today & tomorrow comes first & is more important than the future that is light years ahead.

Think of life as a long journey. You want as much as possible for the journey to be pleasant until the end.

There will be some bumps along the road and there could be some accidents outside your control eg landslide while you are camping, air crash or whatever.

But there are also many things within your control and planning, your personal finance being one of them. The faster you get your personal finance under control, the better the road ahead will be.
