One seller gave this link to check IMEI but not sure if it's for MI Malaysia sets >> http://www.mi.com/verify/#secur_en

Can also call up any MI Malaysia service center & ask to check IMEI # . When bring set to service center for repair etc they also check ur IMEI # see if it's parallel import or not

I'm shopping for an RN5 Ai on shopee. Can someone confirm what kind of ROM is installed on MI Malaysia's RN5 phones?

I found a seller the says "Original Malaysia Set" & "Local Manufacturer Warranty" ... but one of the buyer comments say installed with Global ROM. Couldn't contact seller unfortunately

Good News & Bad News

The RM569 RN5 3/32 that I bought from Lazada yesterday was just delivered!!! Super happy rclxm9.gif

First thing I did was to call MIservice center to check the IMEI.

Good news again. IMEI checks out - orig MI M'sia set rclxms.gif

BAD news

The girl told me the warranty is up till end sept 2019 . I asked her 2 more times . Still end Sept 2019

So I was thinking wtf! I bought direct from Xiaomi flagship store. Not some reseller, right?

Then I look at the box - got EIN sticker - authorised distributor ... another WTF LOL

Another thing... last time I bot my RN2 , there was an invoice in the package show seller name , S/N & iirc IMEI of the phone. This time nothing at all. 3rd WTF

So guys, what do you think I should do? 1.5 months less warranty & I dun hv any invoice to prove I bought from Xiaomi flagship store yesterday

Kclee2002 thanks for feedback. Really weird. I tried again & still the same - cannot get 4000x3000px resolution. Stuck at 2752x2064px . Also when in rear cam portrait mode, I cannot zoom in. In other modes, can zoom in.

Went to camera settings - can't find anything that might cause this low res. Even restored to default settings. Could it be that I'm still on MIUI 9.5?

Just saw my friend's Apple phone fitted with very expensive Otterbox - nice - sides wraps over the edge of the display. I think his looked like the "symmetry" model

Anyone seen similar Chinese versions in our fave online stores brows.gif

hahaha I updated to MIUI 10 & can get the full 12MP resolution for rear cam. In MIUI 9, it was REALLY the smaller 5MP cam that was taking the portrait rclxub.gif

Coming from dslr photography, we use zoom lens to get silky smooth bokeh and also for composition .... forgot that smartphones dun work the same... zoom means digital zoom LOL image quality poor - so guess they disabled it in portrait mode. For composition, use leg power zoom hahaha. Also if wanna use the portrait mode for bokeh effect in other aspect ratios, shoot in 4:3 & then crop manually. OR use the front cam (portrait mode can shoot in widescreen frame, using a fraction of the sensor)

btw RioMeni before you update to MIUI 10, go checkout the front camera screen - the portrait mode is activated via a "person icon" from the flash setting area (the blue icon in pic below). After u update to MIUI 10, it will show up as and activate by "Portrait" just like for the rear camera.

So we can't set portrait in 18:9?
*
front cam can - set 18:9 frame in settings & selfie away ... file will be 4160 x 2080 px

rear cam ie take other ppl photo in portrait mode will always be in 4:3 full resolution (Try it yourself). If want 18:9, go to photo editor & crop whistling.gif

LOL if understand Hindi, this video explains how MIUI 10 enables portrait mode for older models without dual camera ... yeah, hang on to your old models, no need to upgrade to dual cam models to enjoy portrait mode.

How can it be? For us with RN5, we are getting portrait mode from the single lens front cam, right? "AI" enabled LOL

Models that can portrait mode with MIUI 10:
Mi MIX 2/Mi 6/Mi 5s Plus/Mi 5s/Mi 5/Mi Note 2/Mi Max 2/Mi Max/Redmi Note 5(India)/Redmi Note 4(India)/Redmi Note 4X/Redmi Note 3/Redmi 5/Redmi 4/Redmi 4X

Hi all,

For Redmi Note 5, is the screen curved on the edges and require full screen tempered glass to avoid air bubble on the edges?

Btw, is there any good tempered glass that doesn't cause rainbow or bubble effect on the edges to recommend?
*
I got an RM10 tempered glass & it does not stick along the edges. Wonder if it'll slowly come off or if dust will creep into the edges. Can imagine how precise the tempered glass has to be formed to mirror the curved edges. Also the tempered glass is some 2mm narrower than the screen and still got unstuck edge (LOL see photo) - tells me that the screen's edge curve has a pretty big radius.

user posted image
LOL ... yup there's a pretty big gap between the bumper case (RM15) & the tempered glass nod.gif

Hope those who installed film protector can do a show & tell too. TQ

another view - shows that the TG width matches the visible screen ie does not cover the black border of the screen. If view sideways @ say 45deg, can see gap. LOL if need to replace, next time must check width first dry.gif If buy online, cannot be certain
