Redmi Note 5 Pro or Mi Note 3?

Mi Note 3 have better SoC (SD660)
Mi Note 3 have USB-C
Both have good camera - do not know the difference until there is comparison
Redmi Note 5 Pro is cheaper (speculation since it is not here yet)

I am moving towards Redmi Note 5 Pro cause I don't care about USB-C (have lots of micro usb cable) and the cheaper price which I projected.

Hope they have global ROM version.

i hv to say, miui have more frequent release cycle for lowend phone... compared to sammie
and after 2-3years... sammie (midrange phone) totally stop releasing any updates

miui (lowend phone)  as of rite now... once in awhile still releasing update
their problem is...
they didnt release any kernel source or upgrade the os to android 6,7 or 8 as promised

I found Wave software couldn't following miui update.
After uninstall wave try to reinstall again this is work and lock GPS as possible.

No. The global rom is much much better. Theres no Chinese crapware or scrolling ads in stocks apps like the file explorer, browser, dialer. Normally the ads app shouldn't not be running in the global version. Some people claim that they are running the global rom and still see ads but they probably have the 'hacked' or distributor rom.

I normally freeze the analytics and ads apps but I think they can be safely deleted as long as the the mi apps are not used.

Who say global rom no ads ?
My mix 2 in explorer still had free ads.

sorry if this has been answered before, but how's the battery life compared to other phones (xiaomi and other brands)?

currently using Mi 5s and the battery really terrible (can jump from 19% directly to 5% then died for simple web browsing).

very easy to flash ROM ler.... even old uncle like me can do it in 1 hour.

Did on various models on lenovo phone before, bought import set, flashed to global standard ROM.

Weird, when i do speed test on iphone 7 and s9 plus on the same wifi i get around 100mbps

However on my rn5 i am getting only 30mbps on the same wifi.

Is the rn5 inferior in terms of the hardware?

I'm not sure, but I did root mine using magisk. If you want to do root and eanble camera2 api:

1. Unlock bootloader
2. enable usb debugging, install Minimal ADB and Fastboot and also Xiaomi driver/software suit
3. Put TWRP (download from official site: (https://twrp.me/xiaomi/xiaomiredminote5pro.html) inside Minimal ADB & Fastboot directory. To make it easier afterwards, rename the file to twrp.img
4. download Magisk installer and Magisk uninstaller; put anywhere in your phone
5. attach cable to pc and phone, set pc as trusted for adb
6. run adb
7. type adb devices, press Enter. there should be some kind of a string of characters and not empty.
8. type adb reboot bootloader and press Enter. Wait
9. Once at bootloader, type fastboot devices and press Enter. Again, make sure got string of characters and not empty/null
10. type fastboot boot twrp.img, press Enter and wait
11. When TWRP recovery fully loaded, you can install magisk, then reboot system.
12. After the phone boot up, install any build.pro editor from Play Store.
13. Run the app, give root permission (if needed) and type persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1 at the very end.
14. save and reboot.

If you ever want to unroot, just repeat step 6-10, but instead run Magisk uninstaller. There's uninstall button in hte Magisk app, but I've tried it since too lazy to reinstall if it really uninstall Magisk
