haha,

I need some time to think (64gb is tempting me but there are a lot of thing i can buy for rm200) , might buy when the phone arrives at mi store instead of lazada.
*
In due time prices for RN5 will drop. then just couple em with vouchers or discount codes. icon_idea.gif Can be cheaper than retail store. Why i recommend the 4gb+variant is because it seems to me you might actually use this phone for years, so 4GB RAM is better.

Meaning this phone is not suitBle for night shot?
*
Night shots are okay. If there's some lighting then it can capture really nice shots in auto mode. If lighting is really low, results are grainy shots. If you see my previous posts, i've uploaded pic samples of night shots.

Anyway, i'm not good at taking pics. Mostly on auto.

Daylight and good lighting shots, the RN5 probably have a slight edge. The cameras on the Mi6X are independent, when under low light conditions it will switch to the IMX376 employing the 4-1 pixel binning technique which yields quite a good result it seems.
yup
Have you tried to install another camera app that allows you to set it manually?
*
Open Camera app. Still i suck at manual modes.haha.

Yes it's missing the face unlock feature. Then again i rather use the fingerprint unlock than the face unlock as it keeps unlocking the phone when i just seeing notifications at lock screen.

i know it's wrong to ask this kind of question here, but i'm really in dilemma now. Im thinking to get new phone but undecided which one to choose:
1. RN5 (4GB)
-best price vs performance phone
-lowest camera quality compared to below option
-build quality, but acceptable since this is mid 1k phone
-disappointed because no 6GB version after waited for long
-using well known Snapdragon SOC

2. Mate 10 Pro (6GB)
-reduced price, can get brand new for rm2.6k
-proven battery life
-Gen 1 AI with possibility of getting update/port from P20 Gen 2 AI

3. P20 Pro (6GB)
-latest hype in the market, but battery life is slightly shorter compared to M10P
-best camera phone in the world at the moment
-AI assisted image for night mode, no need tripod

I'm very well versed with MIUI and EMUI so user experience will be not that much issue. I know the price is huge difference, I dont mind investing but at the same time if i can save some bucks why not.

my last xiaomi phone was mi3 and RN3, used OP3T for 3 weeks then i switched to honor 6x. i'm a retired flasholic.
*
2 different levels of phones.

If i were able to splurge money on phones, might as well just go for high end flagship phone. I'm not exactly into photography, as long i can snap some decent random photos at time that would be fine for me, so I bought RN5 6GB

Xiaomi's Redmi Note series is always the bang for buck phones, well of course there's some drawbacks but for me is fine.

Mate 10 & P20 Pro, their Hi-Silicon Kirin are also very powerful isn't it. Of course, their Leica lenses produces way better pics than Xiaomi Redmi Note 5.

Can it be OTA onward ?
If yes might consider get 6gb import version
*
No problem with device. To my knowledge, only devices that comes vendor roms are unable to receive OTA updates, if not flashed to proper rom.

I personally had Redmi Note 3 SD with vendor rom, i unlocked the bootloader and flashed China Rom and Global Rom with out issues. Also receiving OTA updates as i enrolled into Global Beta Rom.

As for this Redmi Note 5 AI 6gb that comes with original China ROM I'm using now, i recently received an OTA update of 300mb.

Just unlocked the bootloader ( 15days waiting period ) and flashed to leaked Global Stable Rom. As this rom just released, i reckon that updates will take sometime maybe a couple of weeks?

Stock camera app have manual modes, but only for WB and ISO. Open camera has more options.ISO, Exposure. I bought H+ Pro from ali express nillkin store. I think shopee also have local seller or china importers.

I guess we'll have more manual options if the camera2 API is enabled by default. *update. This app seems to be able to access more manual mode options without having to enable that API.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...concamera&hl=en
Can't find on either one, nillkin store and nillkin official store.
Nillkin full cover glass good? Will it come off after a short period since the adhesive is at the borders only?
*
Here's the link. H+ Pro Nillkin

Nillkin frosted hard cover

I used this combo. Not sure if use full glass screen cover can use this back cover.

The original TPU cover that bundled together is great quality but reason i chose this cover was due to it dotted texture. Gives nice grip ( at least for me ). The screen protector is great too, though abit prone to fingerprint smudges, put inside pocket and take it out clean ady hahaha. thumbup.gif

As requested here's the guide to flash AP sets of Redmi Note 5 AI China.

* Disclaimer * I do not hold any responsibility if anything goes wrong occurs. Unblocking bootloader is a risk and Flashing is a risk. Proceed on your own risk. I'm providing this guide based on the recollection of my memory. tongue.gif

Original Source Guide Flashing RN5 China with Leaked Global Stable Rom

I will try to explain each steps as detailed as possible. Inb4 TLDR; cry.gif

Requirements:
1) Unlocked bootloader ( Minimum 15 days waiting time )
2) Redmi Note 5 Pro 7.1.2 fastboot ROM
3) MiFlash Tool
4) TWRP
5) Redmi Note 5 Leaked Global Rom (Oreo)

Step 1 :- Unlocked Bootloader

Go to this link MIUI Bootloader Unlock and follow the steps to proceed with unlock bootloader REQUEST.
You will need to download Mi Unlock. Once downloaded, extract the files to any folder and run the miflash_unlock.exe with Run As Administrator option.

Then you'll need to enable developer option. To do this you'll need to go Settings --> About Phone ---> MIUI version. Keep tapping this, it will notify you the number of taps to enable developer option.

Then once developer option is enabled, head over there Settings --> Additional Settings --> Developer Option --> enable USB debugging.
You can also check your Mi Unlock Status there.

Once Mi Unlock software is running, you'll need to sign in with your MI account. Don't have one? Create one. Once signed in, click the gear icon on the top right as per Red arrow then click Check button for MI USB Driver to make sure it's installed.

Shut down your phone manually. Then press VOLUME DOWN button + POWER ON button. Hold down the buttons till phone boot to Fastboot Mode. You'll know once you see FASTBOOT text and Mi Bunny with Commie hat toying with android's back. Then connect usb cable from Laptop/Desktop to Phone and just click the Unblock button.

For those first time unblocking bootloader, through these steps, it will start to request to unblock through it's webpage inside the Mi Unlock Software.

Once after the waiting period is done ;-

Repeat the steps again to unblock your bootloader.
