Hello, I finally have the money to upgrade my Dell Laptop with an MSI laptop with GTX 1050 Ti.

But when i looked into the spec that i want, I found two similarly spec MSI Laptop with just a ram different(one with 4gb and the other one is 8gb).

If i upgrade the GL62M to 8gb or ram, the price is almost the same.

I need help finding the different between this two MSI laptop (other than RGB Lighting tongue.gif ) to justify my purchase.

Attached Image vs Attached Image

Thanks for the help.

Basically i think the difference is mainly the keyboard, GP has light on it and GL does not. And also the graphic card. you may refer to the attachment below. Left is GL and right is GP

Thank you very much for the info

Is the graphic make a different with 2gb and 4gb GDDR5?
And if so, how much different. Sorry, i'm noob with graphic card.

But the picture from my post show the GL have a 1050ti with 4gb GDDR5.

2GB vs 4GB is a big difference. Try not to get 2GB unless you're looking for for the RM3000 to RM3300 laptops.

I think the GL series is a third party sourced,

Meaning that MSI didn't make those themselves. They just appointed someone else and installed a manager to maintain quality.

GP series IS a laptop that their themselves make, straight from Taiwan.

I'll pick the GP series if they are the same price.

This is from their official website. It say that the GL have a GTX 1050 ti with 4gb. Of course it was sold out but i can find it somewhere else with the same spec. So is it really 2gb or that was a different laptop? a GL62M 7RD 089MY maybe?

Well, a 1060 is really out of my budget. And i think its ok, I'm not a hardcore gamer, mostly play some Dota and CS. Just my old lappy couldn't take game like Civ 5 without hiccup on low setting. Thanks for the advice anyway.

4k and above, not too high tho.
Sometimes i use my laptop for video editing and stuff for my office. But mostly for personal use and gaming.
And i'm on the move most of the time. A 15 inch laptop is good enough for me.

GP series is at a bit higher level than the old standard GL series.

In short, the GL series is the lowest one.

GE series >GP series >GL series.

They could have the same spec but the higher one (GP series) is given higher priority and parts, such as the Killer LAN thing. (It's just for LAN wired gaming so you wouldn't really need that really, but, oh well, it's kinda free?)

There's not too much of a difference between these two but if you can get the higher level one plus some bells and whistles at the same price, then why not?

Both of them even got similar weight.

I'm sure you can manage the weight. Sometimes we overestimate these things. If you really can't, you could either get this;

https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-and...119.SC4RL56Wz2g

I'm sure you don't want THAT one.

Or get a smaller but more expensive laptop

https://mystore.msi.com/product/gs63vr-7rd-...1050-2gb-gddr5/

So either toughen up your backside or toughen up your wallet.

Your choice.

Thanks for the great feedback. Toughen my wallet is not an option because about to get married soon, so no money left sweat.gif .
I was actually trying to find a 14 inch gaming laptop, but the price is too steep. 15.6 inch is good enough for me.

This is how i usually travel (That wasn't me btw). Front for the laptop and back for clothes. So a mini pc is out of option.

I think i will go for the GP series. Thanks again for your help.

Totally disagree with that . Even 3gb vs 6gb gtx 1060 doesn't different that much . I don't think 1050ti can utilize 4gb for most of the game in 1080p .

Actually when i looked into it, if you have some questions regarding to 2GB and 4GB, it mainly affect when you are playing some games that uses a lot of textures. So if you only play DOTA and CSGO not exploring more maybe the 2GB is enough for you. but just in case you planning to continue using your lappy in another 3 to 4 years i suggest take the 4GB just in case if you have higher demand on the graphic cards in future.
BTW the killer lan can help you prioritize whatever software, channel, platform you wanna focus on when you use limited network connection.
Hope above helps!
