What is your current pay at the moment? Need to factor in the living cost and career progression/development/job security as well. Also the family factor if you are married/with kids.

Can't just look at the package in totality, there are a lot of factors to be considered. Yes you are getting 7k increment which is by itself a whopping 63% more. In any case i would have jumped straight in. However:

1. Since you are not a PR, no CPF for you but that would also mean your take home pay is higher. But you lose out on the 12-15% epf contribution by your Malaysian MNC employer
2. Effective Tax Rate is lower in Singapore so that is a plus.
3. What is your objective in going to Sg? Do you want to settle down in SG and your fiance will follow suit in the future? or are you just aiming to be there for a short period to earn SGD with the long term aim to be back in Malaysia to settle down? These are very important question that needs to be answered. (Having kids in SG is not a cheap affair if you dont plan to settle down in SG i.e getting a PR)
4. Prepare to fork out 600-1000sgd for a decent room depending on location. For co-habitation with your fiance, it is going to be more.
5. Long term Career progression. Are there still growth at where you are now? Or are you looking to go out of your comfort zone? Are you prepared to leave your professional network that you have built in your current company/country?

for the first 1-2years yes i won't b getting CPF but tat is inevitable..once i get PR then it won't matter much anymore

plan to migrate and settle down there but first need to gain the life experience to see if suitable for me..so will give myself couple of years..yes we have plans alrdy..well i can see my career growth in SG will b better..i change jobs every 2-3years so leaving here not an issue..

I guess you have made up your mind then. Good luck and all the best to you.

Hi all sifu,

I'm 26 working in IT field and currently earning 6k myr per month, before tax.

Was wondering for my salary range is it considered below ave or average in Klang Valley.

For me 6k (5k+ after tax) is not really a lot if you plan to live in here for long term, especially with all sort of commitment.

I did some analysis on my own spending, with this salary seems like it will be difficult for me to get a house as well.

My spending:
Rental: 650 (all in)
Car: 1k (loan+parking+petrol)
Insurance: 330
Food: 800 (include dating, as i usually pay for food when im dating with gf)

With only these it already sum up to roughly 2.8k. That leave me around 2.5 or 2.6k. This is without factoring in car maintenance and also giving parent money. Also if i was to buy a house, it will leave me with almost no saving per month.

So just want to know the average earning we should at least have, maybe at 30 to at least be able to live in Klang Valley with own house.

I,m setting a goal for me to earn at least 10k in 30, but not sure that is realistic or not.
*
you are doing fine. When i was your age i was only earning MYR4k. Keep putting in the effort in your job and you will be ok. Meanwhile, start saving more for a downpayment of a, say medium cost apartment at 300-400k closer to the city. Buy what you can afford, not what you want/like/your parents want. Upgrade later when you can afford it.

Definitely, recommend choosing intel.

Permanent role
large MNC, good for CV
Stable with consistent bonus
*
it does not matter these days whether it is permanent or contract position. if the company is not doing well, they will still retrench you regardless but of course contract positions will be the first to go.

mimos offers higher pay and you dont have to be seperated from your family. what I would suggest you do, is to report to work in intel first while waiting for the offer from mimos. you may also stall them for a month. that will buy you sometime to decide and let you have a flavour of the environment in intel.

Its normal. Some are coming from outside who jump in will have more salary vs staff that was promoted from below.
*
MNCs usually have a fixed salary range for each level/job group and will strictly abide by it. you first need to know what is the range for your level/job group before you make this assertion. you may ask your HR about it. if turns out like you said, same level but the pay does not follow what is prescribed by the range, then you must be working in a chinaman company.

Due to Covid-19, currently i’m working from home since CNY after return from china. I’m getting less salary during this period since my pay is base on working hour. Because of this pandemic, i have to turn down a few good offer which they required me to travel. Not a good time to travel at now. Meanwhile My boss also asking me to join as his permanent staff and he’s offering SGD10k start from next month if i agree. Haven't respond him yet.

Good stuff there. What type of system do you commission? BAS?HVAC?Fire Fighting System?Electrical Switch Gears/Transformers?

Do you do design as well with the M&E Consultant?

Mostly BMS and HVAC System. Depend on your role on that project and what project.
I’m not doing design but i‘ll represent Client for design review, comments and approve drawings for construction during detail design. I will monitor the quality of workmanship and requirement that i need during installation stage before i‘ll take over these systems for commissioning. I will handover to User after completion and train them.
*
What i understand above is that you represent building owners during Site Acceptance Test by the M&E contractors. What i am familiar with in Malaysia is that the contractors would commission the system, handover and provide support and training during defect and liability period.

Maybe the practice in other country is different where a independent/third party hired by building owner to commission the system instead of the contractor.

Nice pay scale there, didnt know civil & construction M&E can fetch such a high salary. Good Luck and all the best to you.

T20 or top 20% in the country, means 1 in every 5 Malaysians is in T20. This includes the massive number of natives who earn below minimum wages. If you're walking on a street in Klang Valley, quite possibility 2-3 in every 5 Malaysian you see is in T20.

RM10k a month is definitely above average in Malaysia but it's not something worth bragging in my humble opinion.
*
top 20th percentile(t20) is not 1 out of 5. google it.

Update again:

Job Title : Software Engineer
Job Desciption : Develop embedded system of frequency radio, working mainly on Bluetooth implementation and applications now. Dealing with every stake holder in the project.
Age : 27
Years spent in company : 3 years 3 months
Company : MNC
Industry : Frequency Radio
Tenure : permanent
Employment Level : Junior Engineer
Experience before joining (years) : First Company
Highest paper qualification/ education background : Degree
Location : Penang
Average Working Hours Per Week (incl lunch hours): 40

Monetary Payout
Basic Salary + Fixed Allowance : RM4300
Contractual Bonus (months): 1.5mths
Performance, Variable Bonus & Commissions (months) : 1mths + -

Benefits (where relevant) :
Health Benefits : Medical Card
Transport Benefits : none
Mobile / Internet / Gadget Benefits : Internet claim RM90 per month
Flexi Working Hours : yes
Other Benefits : RM600 for glasses, dentistry and medical checkup

Ok here is the deal guys, I really need some good advice.

I have been looking for opportunities outside since a year or two ago. I always find the current company I am working in is quite outdated in term of technologies and too many legacy things to work on which don't really give me any kind of satisfaction in the job scope.

Now I have a chance ( job offer ) to join another company which is completely different field from what I am doing right now, but I do have the Bachelor Degree that is fitting the job scope very much, i.e. hardware design engineer. And most importantly it is working on the latest tech possible, not everyday wiping the shat that was created by some old guy back in 2000.

So now my concern is that, I might get a promotion in the upcoming year 2021, around April, which might give me a salary boost to around RM5000? (optimistic)
But also at the same time, the performance bonus for next year is completely none as the business is not doing so great.

On the other hand, the job offer is offering me a higher grade, but the biggest drawback is the salary is still the same I am getting now. However, the extra bonuses the company is offering is way more than I can get in 2021 if I choose to stay in the current company. Also the hiring bonuses are also very attractive.
Question is, should I vouch for a better company, a better bonus, (maybe a better working environment), but different job scope (which I have to start fresh again).
Or should I stay at the old company, risking to get promoted (we can never try manager's words) and maybe the increment is just at max 10%.

I tried to nego for higher basic salary for the job offer, but the justification is obvious that I don't have any fitting skillsets required. It is kindna like a miracle that I can actually get the job offer.
*
just move la. motorola is a dead end job. not much future in malaysia for embedded software system unless you go to china.

hardware design at least your skills is transferable to other segment in EE.

Employment Level : Executive
Experience before joining (years) : Straight join in after Internship in the Company
Highest paper qualification/ education background : Degree in Computer Science related
Location : Selangor
Average Working Hours Per Week (incl lunch hours): 40-45

Benefits (where relevant) :
Health Benefits : Panel clinic
Transport Benefits : Public Transport to Client Site Claims
Mobile / Internet / Gadget Benefits : -
Flexi Working Hours : Depends
Other Benefits : Annual company trip

I think I have a huge leap, from RM3960 to RM5100, this is kind of exceed my expectation, anyone here also in a Senior Mobile Software  Developer role? is the salary range will be RM5000+ for Senior Entry Level?
*
Good stuff. I can see a trend where an experienced Software Engineer (>3 years) pay bracket already exceeded those of similar experience in Engineering(Non-Oil and Gas).

Even the entry level positions are on par if not more now, which was the opposite probably 10 years ago.

Would definitely get my children to do Software Engineering instead of other branches of Engineering. (If they are into Engineering at all)
