Just had this new role & joining this regional department this month. This department is handling the regional products & partnerships for this company. Need to manage the product roadmap & commercialization plan & traveling to regional offices (After COVID). Reporting to a higher boss now, and there are 2 people that reports under me Hope everything turns out well

don't ever go to manufacturing sector. It is like the lowest rank of engineering ( long working hour, low pay ). Also in manufacturing the turnover is so high that they don't even bother to filter for candidates. They just accept whoever comes in to apply for the job. So in long run, manufacturing companies are usually the last choice for engineers to go. No offence to anyone but it tends to be the "second tier engineers to-go" due to the "whoever come I also accept" policy.

99% of manufacturing companies are toxic. Toxic not in the things they manufacture, but the management. Everyday you are getting scolded by managers, and you will go scold your technicians and operators. Just to get those yields up, just to get those production lines running. You will be surrounded by negativity almost EVERYDAY.

In contrast, RnD kind of engineering companies will always select the "better" engineer, filtering away those with normal result and tend to accept first class honor engineers only. This is the kind of companies that usually give u good work-life balance, great benefits, great career growth.

Not saying RnD companies are toxicless, but things are at more ease there. Discussion instead of accusations, meeting instead of brainwashing. Also the pace is also slower there as everything is deadline based. (Manufacturing has no deadline, every second is deadline)

If you are still studying now, my advice is to work as hard as u can to get that first class honor results. So when you graduate next time, you can get a lot good offers from great companies.
