Jumped company once because how little the increment is. Previously worked in a semiconductor company where they value circuit designer more than software, despite the technical capability I have.

Quite a decent pay at the age of 28 yo  thumbsup.gif

Thanks! Although admittedly all my x-colleagues who worked in semiconductor as circuit designer are earning more than me despite same age...

sounds like your ex-company is Ixxxx  tongue.gif

haha you guessed right~

To be fair, it's a very good company that treats its employee very well. Just that you can see the bias between circuit designer and software as they fall under different department. I still miss alot of benefit provided by it, especially its stock. drool.gif

Just my 2 cents:
When they said work harder, it doesn't mean to OT.

Work fast, work efficiently, finish stuff quickly. Yes boss will give you stuff to do when you are free, but instead of being free, take up the time to learn yourself, ask colleagues for documentation, past training ppt slide etc etc.

Always yearn to learn new stuff, take note of everything your senior teach you, they don't like to explain twice or more.

Don't burn the bridge, expand and maintain your network especially those that are leaving or left the company, that's your opportunity to switch company. For those that complain, tell them if want to look for jobs, come find you (assuming you have network).

All the best to you! console.gif

Anyone know what other companies other than Intel which pay higher salary for Master as compared to normal degree?

Last I heard Intel paid fresh grad Master RM4.5k, when I enter that time it's 4k only.

Just software engineer. But that time fresh grad, so enter as Graduate Trainee, not permanent. I'm just wondering if there's any place pay higher for Master Degree.

What platform and framework you use? How good is your skill for those you have used? Any project portfolio you have done?
*
Working on both unix and windows in c + cpp, interfaced to tcl. We use boost library, and not much other stuff.

i'm pretty good, above average for my skill (I compare myself to others my age/experience). But technically I still don't know a lot of stuff, espc data structure. The software I worked on require more electronic knowledge which I possess, rather than competing with ppl from Comp Science who have way more knowledge in programming I presume (I'm from Computer Engineering).

Hmm... Your working platform is somehow different from what I have been doing,  brows.gif

Working experience wise, such as expose to real world data structure is required, since you have knowledge like handling electronic in Unix and cpp, I suggest you can continue that way (Not much people with that skill on market I suppose, as compare to Programmer). A Unix Specialist or Engineer could earn you a lot. Salary more or less 5.2k+- with 2 years experience.
*
Yeah I know. I only realize how much knowledge I'm lacking in real world data structure is when I go for TripleByte online interview, where they ask a lot of data structure stuff. Heck they don't even teach you data structure in uni for Computer Engineering (I know comp sci did).

Currently I'm moving forward as Software engineer rather than programmer precisely because of this. But I'm taking up course on data structure since that will help me with my path down Software Engineer too.

Nah, software engineer, not system engineer. I'm not sure how they really classify the difference between programmer and software engineer. But from what I can notice in jobstreet, anything programming that requires the knowledge of engineering (semicon), then they will classify the job as software engineer.

Company from big 4 (De*****) called me to offer position as Cloud Engineer (Azure)
I have total 3 years experience
Now working as Cloud System Engineer at Cloud Service provider with salry Rm3500/month
They asked me how much i expected?
What figure should i give?
*
Are you moving across state? 25% is kind of common. But if lets say you are moving from Penang to KL (They always assume KL high spending place), then you can try justifying 50%. My friend went from Intel to NXP got a 50% raise when moving from Penang to KL.

All the best to you. Please do not lowball yourself, for your own sake and for other ppl sake too. If you have confident in your skill, ask for 35 to 40% and this is includes always giving them space for negotiation (lower your original expected salary by 5 to 10%).

This industry salary is not as good as other but stress level is quite low. Thinking to go back to my previous company due to some personal issues but felt shy since I reject their 3 times counter offer before I join this company. The previous company is wood product manufacturing industry.  Any advice on returning back there?
*
Don't be shy, be frank to them why you want to come back, this company nicer, etc etc, not sure what is your personal issues. I hope you didn't actually burn your bridge back there. From my experience, even if you reject their counter offer 3 times, they will most probably still be happy to have you back.

What's an acceptable increment for someone earning ~4k, mid 20s, 2 yr experience, within the financial industry?

I got 8% but not sure what to make of this. Previously company didn't get increment as I jumped ship just before.
*
Does your company make it clear the increment is from market adjustment or is it your real increment?

Have you been working in China all these while or only recently started your career there?
*
To be fair in china pay is quite good, but working environment is damn stress.

i've known a distant friend who worked on a MOBA for mobile app in China, OT everyday and every weekend, but after 2 years they get a REALLY huge bonus (Enough to make him buy a mid end condo here in Penang).

I for sure can't handle the stress...

It's not bad, but doesn't fresh grads usually join as graduate trainee? This is important, because while starting salary is rm3.1k for intel, after 1 year probation when you get converted to permanent don't you get 10% (usually) increment? I'm not sure if it's still the same now, since I heard that they don't have some of the perks anymore.

I have been avoiding this thread for many years. I posted twice and I am ashamed to say that my salary is still stagnant. I am very ashamed of myself and the salary I made. I need some input so i could get out of this salary bracket.

I have been working for 7 years starting as a normal Admin to E-commerce Sales cum Admin for the last 5 years. I dont consider myself knowledge in every aspect of what an E-Commerce employee should have. My skillset is more of mixed here and there. I Worked in a medium sized Chinaman company (previous) and startup company (current) so we need to do a lot of things including Cleaning every week like mop the floor, clean the toilet, etc 😫

I am so lost and demotivated. I live in Ipoh with my family. It is not that I dont want to work in KL/SG, it is just that my parents are in their early 70 now and I am not young anymore. It is not an excuse but my heart is not there. I was once away from home for a week in KL and my father was in hospital. I was so worried that I kept calling my mum to check on him.

I am looking forward to attend workshops and trainings to upgrade myself but I dont know where to start 😔

Thnx for reading my long rant. My english is weak, pardon if it feels funny to you.

You are only in your early 20s, yet you have worked 7 years with a degree? If you don't mind me asking, at what age did you graduate?
