hi there shifus

I want to ask about IT career since  want to work at Singapore

is it easier to get a job and visa as:

1. mobile developer - android
2. Back end engineer - java
3. java engineer - server side
4. front end engineer
5. SAP related work

Which one is easier? or you have any other suggestions?
Should I get job experience first in KL?
I would like to know the challenges we encounter as well as the salary growth
*
If you can get a job as a fresh graduate there, it will be good.

Typically IT jobs are very much sought after in Singapore, I believe you can give it a go.

Recently get an offer software engineer position backend role 4.3k and my current salary 3.5k with 3 years exp. Should i accept the offer?

Try to compare against other benefits as well. In terms of basic I do not think it is worth it as you have to adapt to a whole new working environment.

IT developers are very much sought after in the market today. If you are good at what you do, I would say that you are underpaid.

Try searching around for better opportunities that pays better.

1. They are unable to find suitable candidate after months of trying.
2. The JD should be the same i guess.
3. This is the dilemma, they are asking my expected increment. Since i just left, how much is too much? Does 30-40 seems reasonable?
*
30% seems reasonable as you have nothing to lose.

Initially plan to work in SG after graduate, then i realize like most of the company they paying around 2400SGD +- for the fresh graduate only... but since im graduate in computer science, most of the IT job is in SG town area which the living cost quite high...

After some consideration, make up my minds and find the job in KL.. not sure is a good decision or not
*
Even if you work in KL your starting pay will be around RM3k only, given that KL's living cost is quite high too, what is the difference?

Another point where I decide to get some experience in KL first is I applied around 10 jobs through JobStreet.sg but all of them said not suitable. Lol... even they mentioned training provided and only little requirement is stated
*
The only thing they look in fresh graduates is your cgpa, major and your soft skills when you go interview with them, if they outright rejected you before you even attend the interview, it is either your cgpa is low or your major does not fit the criteria of what they are looking for.

Have you tried looking via Linkedin or Monster? SG recruiters have stopped using Jobstreet ages ago.

Btw about the bonus, it is confirmed by all my colleagues that they haven't got increment or bonus from last Jan till now. I plan to work here for 1 year and see if it will be different next year. If still no increment or bonus, I'm thinking about leaving... Is it normal for consultant companies to not have yearly increment?
*
Maybe you are not entitled as you joined after their performance year cutoff?

Job Title : Associate Consultant
Job Desciption : Configure, set up, update, and perform maintenance on our Tools / Software. Provide L2 to L3 support to our clients. Nowadays we are gearing to providing knowledge transfers to our client. So that they can do the L2 themselves.
Age : 29
Years spent in company : 3
Company : was MNC, bosses bought over, now merged.
Industry : IT
Tenure : Permanent
Employment Level : Associate Consultant
Experience before joining (years) : none
Highest paper qualification/ education background : Degree. Took Masters, but didn completed, but there is a few publications.
Location : Selangor
Average Working Hours Per Week (incl lunch hours): ~9 hours per day. Monday to Friday.

Monetary Payout
Basic Salary + Fixed Allowance : Basic 4.4k. With claims like mileage, parking, toll, monthly data plan, usually those claims can get RM700-RM900 per month.
Contractual Bonus (months): none
Performance, Variable Bonus & Commissions (months) : Does this means the annual bonus? usually it's just like 1 / 2 months flat rate.

Benefits (where relevant) : RM300 Optical claim, RM300 Dental claim
Health Benefits : Medical claim of up to RM2000 per year, RM200 health check up
Transport Benefits : Grab for business, Mileage claim, toll claim, parking claim
Mobile / Internet / Gadget Benefits : RM70 data plan claim per month.
Flexi Working Hours : yes
Other Benefits : RM100 birthday claim, yearly company trip (overseas)

This is my first job, based on my working exp, am I underpaid? I'm actually feeling a bit stagnant already with this job. The only way to entice me is to involve in other projects, POC etc. Will talk to my GM about this during the coming review.

Overall I think our company benefit is quite good. But I feel a bit hard to break thru the structure. It's Associate Consultant, then Consultant, then Senior Consultant. I see a colleague of mine, worked here like 6 years, to break into Senior Consultant role.

I did masters by research, had a few publications. But didn completed it. I see my friends around my age, they are getting better salary than me sad.gif

How much of % should I expect if I jump shit to end user IT? End User meaning those dealing with their own company's IT, those that are not vendors / consultant that requires to deal with clients.
*
DXC? I think the pay is about right for an Associate Consultant. But if I were you I would try to switch jobs every 2 years. Staying on in a job for too long will result in your pay getting stagnant.

Yea. If I am to stay with this company, I'm letting my manager know that I want to be involve in other projects. Get more certifications. See how it goes.

I see. Then maybe if I am to jump ship, I'll try principals or vendors. Like Microsoft or companies that provide supports for Microsoft.

I'm kinda tired with consultant job, keep going onsites, doing reports. Sometimes would like my own desk. laugh.gif
Nope. Just small company la. Not even DXC's size. Company size is around 70+ staff? Recently got merged.

Yea, I'm casually looking for jobs. But not sure if I wanna continue in Consultant / Vendor role, or end user.
*
Maybe venture to the Software Developer role? This role is getting more and more in demand nowadays.

Yes it is very much relevant. In face I got more interview through Linkedin nowadays than in job street portals. Many recruiters tend to use Linkedin now.
