I made a mistake by joining MNC for my first & second job, cause I was only a small part of process of the entire organization. If learning curve is your main priority, I'd suggest you stick with smaller based firm where you're able to have a broader view especially on project based, and more inclusion.

I can definitely relate to this. One year in a small firm is equivalent to a few years of experience in mnc as you are usually in charge of many things.

More like you are being assigned to many job task with minimal pay, that's the standard practice of a chinaman company. But I always suggest my friend to go work for a chinaman comany because they are the ones that able to offer you experience before you job hop to other big corporate. Chinaman company prepares their staff well to job-hop by throwing them all ad-hoc task, that's a fact. laugh.gif

Job Title : Civil Engineer
Job Desciption : design & produce structural drawings, liaise with other archi/M&E consultants, responsible for doc submissions to authority
Age : 22
Years spent in company : 4 months internship + 3 months probation
Company : C&S consultant
Industry : construction
Employment Level : junior
Experience before joining (years) : 0
Highest paper qualification/ education background : B.Eng Civil
Location : Selangor
Average Working Hours Per Week (incl lunch hours): 55 to 60 incl dinner

Basic Salary + Fixed Allowance : RM 3k

Hi sifus, any tips for me to grow as a structural eng? Not planning to stay for too long because of the lack of work/life balance (office culture). I do a few hours of OT everyday but the learning curve is steep because I'm handling a project on my own though I get a lot of help from seniors.

Would it be wiser to jump to MNC in the future or stick to smaller based firms?

I heard a lot of stories about civil engineering. Almost everyone says it is better to start off with small companies (sub-con) so that you can learn a lot of process and not idling facebooking in the office like those who join big company / MNC from the start. OK that is for civil engineering.

But does that statement applies to other field of engineering as well? Take for example, currently me working as SW engineer in MNC, even though I am not flooded with tons of workload but I am still learning a lot of process in software development. I think that is probably because projects are divided into small teams, not the whole company working on a single big project. That allows me to see clearly how the whole process flow.

My dilemma is that MUST I join a small company to brush up my skills, or I can learn as well in a big company? confused.gif

Many say that we all should join small company once we graduate, but is that a scam created by small companies bosses to seek for cheap labors? confused.gif

I have a lot of friends working in other engineer fields, i.e. Electronics Engineer, Network Engineer, they are busy as hell too, they seem to learn a lot after a year working in MNC too. But since they are working in MNC, their pays are really handsome as well.

So in short, is MNC really that bad for fresh graduates to start off their career? rclxub.gif

Hi,
Currently working as Audit Assistant Manager in international mid tier firm with RM6k+ (basic salary+allowance) monthly salary.

Got an offer from a consumer financing company which they are able to offer RM8.5k(everything inside) as Finance Manager. I would say there will be a good learning curve for me as the business unit is consider a start up department.

Not sure whether its the right choice. But my favour industry is more towards to property & constructions. Any sifu got some opinions?

A big plus on the basic salary but I was told there are no bonuses (sad), at least for now. Environment wise need quite a big adjustment, working with Eastern Europeans is a big challenge especially in communication (miscommunications/lack of it are very common here). I dont see much progression here, seems like they tapau the lead/management roles for their own folks.. thinking of cabut-ing somewhere else already

If you are working in Penang, I can guess which company you jumped from and jumped to tongue.gif
Anyway, I find that Software Engineer is usually underpaid or overloaded when compared to Software Developer. Not sure if the industry allows me to shift my job scope in near future. Many uncertainty and fear to leave my comfort zone

Highly doubt this.... unless he is station outside of the country then he would reach this amount, if he is in KL then i would say its way below that.
And Huawei its contract basis, renew annually base on performance.

Can concur that MBBs salaries are one of the best. Not sure what those in the IB line in Malaysia earn though.

Starting salary for MBBs anywhere from RM 6K - RM 8K from what I've heard

curious about MBBs. I'm myself an engineer and I know few friends of ex-engineers got into MBBs but they have to go to either Oxbridge/Ivy before got accepted into MBBs. Are they still choosy now?
