As I am working with an employer outside of Malaysia, I will have to pay for my own EPF and taxes. With a total monthly payment of 7k, my gross is really just ~RM6150.

Despite feeling low balled, I believe the experience and one foot into SG will be worth it in the long run

You can always opt out from EPF if you are able to generate >6% p.a.

As for taxes, declaring your own is always better than forced PCB. Almost all of your expenses can be deducted. Heard it from friend only. Can always wait for pros here to clarify on this matter.

I personally don't see a reason not to stick with the 9%+12% contribution, its sort of disciplining myself to supporting my retirement fund. However, I am curious whether there is a minimum amount to contribute?

PCB also seems to be much more hassle free and I think I would just tell myself that I'm essentially getting "cashback" after taxes are returned.

That's how I would like to perceive these two so it doesn't get to me too much, haha.

Overall I am content with my net, it's still a good bump from my current salary, so can't really complain there!

Another option is register SSM and open current account under own company name for SG employer to pay you there, then declare yourself as employee of your own business with 2k salary.

Basically only have to contribute 11% RM220 + 13% RM260 (unless you are planning to declare >5k)

2k salary dont have to declare income tax iinm.

Again, better to wait for our expats to clarify on this matter

I would say with CCNA + 2-3 years experience you can demand 4-5K but that's only for MNC.
Depends which path you would like to go into - Analyst (NOC) or Engineering.
Based on my experience, NOC salary will go up faster but over the long run being a Network Engineer gives you better salary as NOC will hit the ceiling quite fast.

It depends whether SG will be worth or not. My friend step into SG until now still 3k+ SGD. Whereas my salary bump from RM3k to 5 figures in Malaysia.
You can argue that if he is capable, he can get 5 figures in SG too. That is correct, but pretty rare range in SG.
But Malaysia still our sweet home isn't it smile.gif
Basically in Tech field, Msia range can be RM3k - RM30k pretty easy, whereas SG normally 3k - 10k SGD.

Quick update with MCO and economic situations and all, I've decided to stay longer in my company and up skill myself on leadership / management so that I can push myself to take up higher management roles / bigger portfolio, rather than venturing out at this crisis period.. Grateful enough to keep the job already... sweat.gif

An update a year later.

Taking a latest snapshot as I started hunting for new job in Singapore.. tried finding purpose in my job for the past one year but it's really feeling lifeless now.

Did look around in Malaysia and seems like the only way to match the salary is to take on higher responsibilities, interested but would rather get out of Malaysia while I still can afford to.

Great company to work for. Only complaint is a neck and shoulder pain due to programming too long. Also, getting a bit bored but can't find anything coming close with my skillset in Malaysia. More responsibilities and need to attend more meetings these days as well.

Looking forward to when I can retire from a permanent job. Having kids doesn't help with early retirement, though. Need to invest more wisely. smile.gif

Guys would you rather pick (example) MYR1000 or SGD325 (simple google conversion) for a contract 1 year job, residing at MSA. This decision u made will affect the next payroll (either you get RM1k constant, or get SGD325, then convert)

Hope this make sense

Bro, for your case, no need to pay tax for the original country of the employer/offer letter address?

I don't think so, simply because I am not based in Singapore and am under a contractor agreement.

325sgd is better. As Singdollar is projected to rise against Ringgit over time.

Especially next year when Fed raise rates
