I suppose there are alot of factors that we are not in shoes to comment. He probably have alot commitments so let's not get there
*
Fair enough, different factors etc...but the standard starting pay in the financial industry is ~RM2.8k...if you're good, can get RM3.0-RM3.2k...and if you're the creme de la creme, you get RM3,5-RM4.0k. For someone who is a fresh grad...to say even RM4k wouldn't be sufficient...I have a hard time understanding it. Maybe if he broke down how/why he requires RM4k...that'd be appreciated. At least eye opener to those of us who think it's excessive.

What's an acceptable increment for someone earning ~4k, mid 20s, 2 yr experience, within the financial industry?

I got 8% but not sure what to make of this. Previously company didn't get increment as I jumped ship just before.

Does your company make it clear the increment is from market adjustment or is it your real increment?
*
No, this is just the "increment". I've not been told it is market adjustment.

There are tons of graduates getting 3.5k - 6k. Are you looking in the right direction? I personally knew alot of friends started work with 4k. A recent fresh graduate come in to my co and his salary is 4.5k.

But....

Are you deserving that price? You said SG adjusted that but you only looking at one aspect. Alot of SG graduates are still earning 1.8k - 3k and only the best are earning higher. Same goes to MY, you dont expect a graduate with 2.8 earned 4k just because they are graduate do you?
*
"Tons of graduates"

That's BS dude. Yes, there are people who can earn 4k or even 6k from the get go. But these are rare occurrences. 99% of the population is going to make less than RM3.5k starting basic. Prestigious management programs, which are far and few between, or management consulting roles, are the bulk of the ones that pay > RM3.5k from the get go. And the people who get these roles don't just need good grades from foreign universities, they need to be able to speak well and know the right people.

Lowyat paints a very unrealistic picture. If you're earning RM4k at 26, you're already easily earning better than 70% of people your age.

Hi guys, I am a fresh graduate in accounting and finance. Today I just got an offer for Accounting Assistant position but the starting salary is RM2.4k only. Isn't the standard market range is 2.5-3k? Btw, it is a medium sized logistics company.
*
What's your CGPA if you don't mind us asking?

RM2.4k is definitely on the lower end, and I would recommend holding out for something at the RM2.8k to RM3.0k range. Starting basic is very important...

Guys, any idea what part time lecturer salary (per hour) is for teaching English or Maths at pre U / foundation level?

Can someone do this part time, without having an academic background per se?

Currently looking for new role as current role too comfortable, wondering if possible to ask for >20% raise?

feel like not earning much, 1k saving only monthly with no commitment cry.gif
*
How come only 1k savings per month with zero commitment? Now Covid some more, a lot of expenditure should be reduced.

And yes, you can get >20% raise, but it won't be easy. You need some kind of professional certification/qualification, and hit it off with the interviewers (especially your direct boss).

You can definitely demand 30% and get it with some persistence. Usually this is a cap for most local Malaysian financial companies at 30%. Don't settle for 20%. But if you even more patient, can go for 40% or 50% even, usually have to hunt outside of Malaysian MNCs for that.

Nice to see being loyal to one company isn't that bad of a progression, compared to hoppers. 4x income within 8 years, growth is there. Thanks for sharing and wish you all the best.

Actuarial side they get very, very good increments for each paper completed. The more advanced the higher the increment. I believe it can be as much as RM8k for a full qualified actuary in terms of increments. Add to that regular promotions (3 in 8 years) and the figure is pretty achievable. The studying however is not easy, nor are the stress levels. Basically you get paid extra for more papers completed.
