Once you are earning overseas, it's hard to return to Malaysia due to the Forex. The difference is too huge. Generally people who return, will take a paycut, of course there will be exceptional cases where they are paid equally well. But that's rare.
So if you intend to come back, the reason behind it has gotta be really solid. Definitely not from the salary point of view. |

i am at sg at the moment. i really hated the job/environment in singapore. the only factor that is pulling me back to stay on in this singky island is the sgd.. i calculated myself, the amount i am saving per month whilst working in singapore, is waay waay more than in malaysia.
soemtimes i relly hope, rm is stronger, like 1:2 ?? then, at least i have more solid reason to move back |

QUOTE(Fiona Chin @ Apr 27 2019, 08:22 PM) my salary back in sg were on par with the market rate ... not really underpaid. 1 of the fact I realise in Malaysia is that those high post job which required expert level knowledges + skills are really in demand. many of the local tenants who have these skills either went to sg or other countries.. so I guess the local companies have no choice but to raise the bar to match or get closer to what oversea is offering.. |

Hi all sifu,
I'm 26 working in IT field and currently earning 6k myr per month, before tax. Was wondering for my salary range is it considered below ave or average in Klang Valley. For me 6k (5k+ after tax) is not really a lot if you plan to live in here for long term, especially with all sort of commitment. I did some analysis on my own spending, with this salary seems like it will be difficult for me to get a house as well. My spending: Rental: 650 (all in) Car: 1k (loan+parking+petrol) Insurance: 330 Food: 800 (include dating, as i usually pay for food when im dating with gf) With only these it already sum up to roughly 2.8k. That leave me around 2.5 or 2.6k. This is without factoring in car maintenance and also giving parent money. Also if i was to buy a house, it will leave me with almost no saving per month. So just want to know the average earning we should at least have, maybe at 30 to at least be able to live in Klang Valley with own house. I,m setting a goal for me to earn at least 10k in 30, but not sure that is realistic or not. |

Meanwhile, start saving more for a downpayment of a, say medium cost apartment at 300-400k closer to the city. Buy what you can afford, not what you want/like/your parents want. Mind share what exactly is the position they are working on? As in programmer? Or involving sales etc etc. IT industry can be huge, so maybe a little more elaboration will be better.Yea i agreed i should do more than think. Thats what I'm doing currently as well. Been trying to work hard to gain as mch explosure and knowledge as i can. To all, I was wondering will slowly switching to management level yeild greater gain or continueing in technical area (like senior developer vs pm?) yield better gain? In term of IT industry. |

QUOTE(miong93 @ Apr 28 2019, 01:25 PM) Hi all sifu, I think you're doing pretty fine. Assuming you started working at 22 years old, 4 years working experience in IT field and pulling in 6k a month is not too bad, probably ahead of 50-60% of similarly experienced IT professionals out there. That said, your salary is above the median salary for people your age. I'm 26 working in IT field and currently earning 6k myr per month, before tax. Was wondering for my salary range is it considered below ave or average in Klang Valley. I,m setting a goal for me to earn at least 10k in 30, but not sure that is realistic or not. But life is a marathon rather than a sprint. Don't rush things too aggressively, on some occasion you can slow down your pace and enjoy the things you have achieved. About buying a house and settling down in Klang Valley, like a forumer have mentioned above, buy something within your means first. Let's say you're planning to set back RM2K a month to buy a house in Klang Valley, looking for a condominium at 400k will be a realistic figure. And 400k should be able to get you a 3 bedroom condo in the outskirts of KL. Financial management is more crucial than having a big salary. So live within your means and you will find yourself pulling through whatever situation. I'm also an IT professional reaching 27 this year, reaching 10k salary but difference is I'm married and have larger commitment, but I live within my means and never indulge myself in superficial luxuries. |
