QUOTE(kietto @ Feb 4 2019, 07:38 PM) Depends on your definition of standard. IMO 3% to 4% is barely enough to cover inflation rate. You should aim for 7% and more. 10% or more is considered very good. If your salary starts at RM 3k, and assume every year you get 3% of increment. After 20 years (at age 44+) you work your salary will only be at RM 5.2k which is almost impossible to survive especially if you have family. But if you get around 7% of increment yearly, with the same starting salary RM 3k after 20 years you will earn almost RM 11k which is quite okay for white collars worker. Conclusion, start to find company that can provide you better salary and improve your skills as well. |

From RM 4K, in fiscal years now already RM 6,250 (Mgmt Consulting). One started at RM 3.5K, in three fiscal years now up to RM 6K plus (IT), too. Maybe it's an industry thing. Always never settle for the average, beat it at all cost. Gong Xi Fa Cai to all celebrating! Remember that at the end of the day, money is merely a tool. It shouldn't control your life, you should control it. |

QUOTE(ontherise @ Feb 7 2019, 09:53 AM) Hi guys, thanks for the input. So does semiconductor industry have good salary prospect in long term? Thanks! To be honest, based on experience with semiconductor industry for 1st job there, Japanese Semiconductor, salary is quite low with not much increment. It was ok for first job or fresh graduate job salary. However once to work there on long term, it is not much increment or salary is kinda low vs other industries. Myself got opportunity to go oil n gas yard the huc company n need going offshore etc. The oil n gas salary quite ok plus with lots of allowances ie going offshore, outstation etc (90% times sure going to project out of office). However the current situation at oil n gas industry is kinda risky. All are contract and not really safe. |

Yes I do notice that in terms of salary, bonus and commission semiconductor cannot compete with O&G one, but O&G has bigger economic fluctuation also lah. How about engineering sales? From what I see engineering sales basic salary is already quite high, on top of that they have lots of commissions some more. However once to work there on long term, it is not much increment or salary is kinda low vs other industries.
