it is not in the list of entrance requirements, but they do consider other pre-u qualifications on a one to one basis.......

however, since the requirements to enter imu is higher than aimst, if one fails to qualify to enter aimst, one is unlike to be accepted into imu........

PMS sydney offers MBBS PhD right?? not sure..
btw, got another question..will university of melbourne be still in undergraduate pathway for M209 intake??? i wanna go there!
*
umeib has been taken off the list effective from 2/07, although up to 2/08 can still fit into the last undergraduate batch.........

sydney is not in the list of pms for medicine.......but it is for dentistry.....

as i understand, they have stop taking imu students from next year, so that means both 1/08 and 2/08 will NOT be about to twin there, even though they can still fit in the last undergraduate intake of 2008........

ahaha 2011 only can ciao.

Nah, Melbourne for me is convenience, family, friends all that. and of course melb u being the best uni for medicine in aust. It is probs the best uni offered to twin to in IMU.

Pass is C. 50%
*
lots of people will disagree with you, and certainly unis like edinburgh, uq, , even unsw will beg to differ.....

melb's 'prestige' is all about branding, rather than actually being significantly better, and they flogged their ranking status (once the highest ranked oz uni) to death by charging significantly more fees from international students, who, the majority it seems, are willing to part with their money just so they have the dubious prestige of having a melb degree...........

these are very important and vital information, and all students, especially prospective ones, should take note......

imu is considered a BACKDOOR entry into these pmr, and it is up to them to impose whatever conditions. also, it is primarily a pathway for malaysians, and initial agreements with the pms will stipulate as such. thus, the requirement by nz that only msians will be accepted. there is a serious shrinkage in the number on nz places.

in total, it appears the number of places in the southern hemisphere is shrinking, and will get much more competitive.......note that many require NO failure or repeats, that will effectively eliminate maybe 30-40% of students in any cohort. Note that about 20% fail eos2.........

I believe this is a win-win arrangement for both IMU and these overseas medical school.

Here's my rationale.
Assuming Nottingham uni can only take in 300 student for Year1. When it gets to Year3, 20 of them would have dropped out due to either personal reasons or having failed their examinations alone the way. And these 20 places can then be given to IMU.

Off topic. People accept the fact that medical school can be called 'school'. Except in Malaysia, anything without ending with the word "university" must be lousy. Tell them you go to King's or Imperial College and they think it is not a proper university.

wait till you tell them you are in lse.......... biggrin.gif

1. which is why i have always maintained that education in general, and med educaton in particular, should not be a for-profit business in the private sector......

2. if you cannot UNDERSTAND what is taught in the lectures/tutorial/text books, you are in DEEP trouble, and maybe should NOT continue........most med students have problem with REMEMBERING, not understanding.....

3. if you have doubts about any subject matter, you can ASK the lecturers, either during the formal contact time or at other times......it is NOT the job of the lecturers to ensure you understand.....this is called UNIVERSITY....different from schools, where the teacher needs to TEACH and ensure the students understand......lecturers SHARE their knowledge with you that is all........after that it is up to you.......

this is the same with "even the best universities in the world"......eg, in oz, standard contact hrs is 3-4hrs/subject/week........ie average 4 subjects/sem=12-16hr/week

p/s.... a thought occurs to me.......how many of you med students (and potential ones) think you will qualify if the selections is based PURELY on merits, ie ALL med schools select from the best available applicants, and the education is FREE.......say funded by a gov administered scholarship fund? I know a lot in imu (and all the ipts too) got in purely because they can PAY........and lots of very brilliant interested students are NOT in because they CANNOT afford.......

i dunno which medical school is better UNSW medical school or UWA medical school!

does it matter?......after all you can't really choose.....you put your options, and they will choose you......and you go where ever you get assigned......

btw limeuu, I got rejected for Feb intake in IMU. Reason? They said that my academic score is too low. 4 of my friends from the same school applied. All got rejected. Not to brag, but we're considerably high in terms of academic scoring in our syllabus. Reason? IMU takes for granted of the scoring and doesnt care bout the different marking schemes of each institute. (example, most foundations here use top 3 marks from the best 3 subjects for an average, then converts to TER, + scaling of course, but ours' dont =( they have their own marking scheme and syllabus, system that is designed just for a particular university.) Was a bit angry with them on selection process really. If you said I failed the interview I don't mind. But yeah. just my 2 cents, got over it. =)
*
which is why i NEVER advise people to take foundation.......just go do the year 12....

in any case, foundations do NOT get ter/enter/uai scores........

for non-critical courses, it is almost certain to get cross uni/foundation programme recognition and offers......but it becomes very difficult for critical courses.......

in any case, i wasn't specifically referring to imu only.......

i don't think they are going to get many students (or even any student) going to melb, syd or anu, under these conditions.........

How are the drop out rates in sem 3? so far there is only one sem 3 repeater. as opposed to sem 1 where there were a few repeaters.

all weeding will have been done by eos2, so people are generally not expected to fail eos3.......but eos3 is the exam that will likely determine where one is matched to for phase 2..........so that is a LOT of stress on some students who are aiming for very popular destination and med schools......

oz and nz will be hot from now on, due to shrinking places and very high popularity, so one has to be in the top 75 percentile to have a reasonable chance (ie at least B+).......if you don't mind where you go, then no worries, just pass........
