Dang that high. Need at least 4 student to cover it up. Kinda agree with Optiplex although I must say IMU is the only one I know 'infiltrate' this backdoor entry. Never heard of other institution operate such as this. Damn, IMU dean must got a lot of connection and spy network tongue.gif

Vista Komanwel is directly opposite and 'only' (I'm only saying 'only' because someone mentioned rm2100 for another apartment) rm1.2k per unit. :S

well i would say
it depends on what a person wants
if u're from somewhere near bukit jalil hence u dun mind getting a house in worse condition because u can go home during weekends
for them they gonna stay here most of the weekends, and they're paying the rent using singapore dollars
though i think yes savannah bit too far for me

I'm still figuring out from which entrance/exit is used for students staying in savanna? is it the one next to Vista C or the one next to Arena Green?

you are right! we are staying here 24/7, including the weekends and weekdays..so yea..we want a better place..my friends don't like vista at all..
and, in one savanna unit, there are 4 rooms, while vista has only 3 rooms, so i guess the price is higher!

guys...i gota ask.. heard that our classes last for 2 hrs/day *mind boggles*.....how is it possible that within 2 hours you'd compile the necessary info. that would allow you to pass your exams? and do these 2 hrs include ALL the materials you need to know...yes i head that there's a lot of 'self studying' that one has to do ...so will we be given the pages that we'd have to study on our own? or do we just rely on our...instincts?

Vista Komanwel isn't really 'in bad condition'. Compared to the accommodations most of my friends in other unis have, I think it really is pretty decent. There's air-conditioning, the apartments are relatively new (in terms of building age), and the lifts work... most of the time.

Herbalife, my medic friends just read the recommended textbooks, then memorize all the stuff in the lecture notes and they've gotten thru sem 5 just fine.

What amuses me about IMU is how they name their exams.

1. OSPE

Conventional: OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination)

2. OBA

Conventional: MCQ (Multiple choice questions)

It just makes it a bit confusing when people twin with other unis.

beg to differ. i wouldn't call someone concerned bout their future as one, who'd rather be spoon fed:) for all i know 11000US dollars is a lotta cash per semester,so i'm boud to expect much more professor/student interaction. what if i don't understand a topic well enough despite having researched it several times? what? tough?!! if a lecturer has to go through an entire topic in only 2 hours, does that leave enough time for the students to enquire on any points they don't understand? besides what's the student:professor ratio? even the best universities in the world have approximately 30 credit hours a week! so yes i ought to be a bit taken aback by only 10 hrs/week!!!!!

wow 11000USD already now huh?
professors?
so far i only have around 5 professors who gave me lectures before
the rest are just assoc profs or lecturers
the teaching staffs for medicine are around 30-40 (sorry i don't know the exact figure), not sure though because i just estimate the number according to appx how many lecturers gave lectures before.
so u do the calculation, we have 5 batches of medical students in bukit jalil at a specific point of time, which add up to be around 1000 students.

nope u'll have usually 2 topics in 2 hours, an hour each

IMO independent learning is a good thing, but here is more of an excuse for not having enough facilities and lecturers to perform adequate teachings.

And stupid money faced IMU always send next sems' "financial enquiry" emails even before we end our current sems. Though i'm a jpa scholar and just need to pay rm40 per sem, i find it annoying vmad.gif

1. which is why i have always maintained that education in general, and med educaton in particular, should not be a for-profit business in the private sector......

2. if you cannot UNDERSTAND what is taught in the lectures/tutorial/text books, you are in DEEP trouble, and maybe should NOT continue........most med students have problem with REMEMBERING, not understanding.....

3. if you have doubts about any subject matter, you can ASK the lecturers, either during the formal contact time or at other times......it is NOT the job of the lecturers to ensure you understand.....this is called UNIVERSITY....different from schools, where the teacher needs to TEACH and ensure the students understand......lecturers SHARE their knowledge with you that is all........after that it is up to you.......

this is the same with "even the best universities in the world"......eg, in oz, standard contact hrs is 3-4hrs/subject/week........ie average 4 subjects/sem=12-16hr/week

p/s.... a thought occurs to me.......how many of you med students (and potential ones) think you will qualify if the selections is based PURELY on merits, ie ALL med schools select from the best available applicants, and the education is FREE.......say funded by a gov administered scholarship fund? I know a lot in imu (and all the ipts too) got in purely because they can PAY........and lots of very brilliant interested students are NOT in because they CANNOT afford.......
