QUOTE(Jckc @ Oct 14 2015, 05:21 PM) Spending all five years via direct entry is a great plus point to settle down properly and adjust to the city and university, rather than jumping straight to clinical years (which is super hectic). The emphasis on integrating early clinical component in pre clinical years (i believe) allows you to adapt better in clinical years in uk universities. (Other than traditional unis) Just my 2 cents. Ala, baru sent in my UCAS this afternoon; 3 London unis 1 non-London uni haha. What was your forecast/UKCAT score, if I may ask? Haih the thing about direct entry is the sheer impossibility (or so it seems), I mean you have people around the world trying to get into a course which has like what, 18 slots? 20? And these fellers probably have A*s littered all over their application, and probably do more charity work than mother Teresa...plus I know my lecturer cocked up the reference.

QUOTE(Jckc @ Oct 14 2015, 08:40 PM) Grades are just pre requisite for medicine (doesn't matter as long you get AAA) and ukcat score depends on how the uni uses them, whether it's to decide who goes for interview or to decide borderline applicants but it's not a huge factor. If what you say about the grades being the pre-requisite...JOY! And heh, had some personal reasons for choosing London...

I applied for direct entry already, but I'm not sure if I can get an interview, let alone an offer. And if I accept an offer for IMU for the Feb 16 intake I would've paid the first sem fees already which i assume is not refundable.

Well the interview was alright and a bit funny. Gonna crunch some numbers to see the cost differential...

QUOTE(limeuu @ Oct 15 2015, 05:55 PM) Medical school interview in msia is a farse....but necessary because of MMC requirement.... The most important criteria is still money....they are also not happy with the minimum requirement rule, as there are many applicants with money but below the minimum which they cannot accept.... Some recalcitrant med schools still accept them, and ask them to appeal to MMC.... In such an environment, interviews are redundant... True...I noticed the interviewers were more of a 'let's get this done with' sort of attitude..

Got my offer from IMU! Bottom line before leaving for partner school is RM263k...Something tells me that 2 years pre-clinical in the UK is also around the same price...

QUOTE(Jckc @ Oct 19 2015, 08:12 PM) Ouch. My fees for pre clinicals were 15k+ each year. So about 200-210k myr in total. It's 18k+ a year for most unis now...but even at today's ridiculous exchange rate it's still RM20k cheaper than IMU, notwithstanding the other fees and flight tickets and living cost

QUOTE(limeuu @ Oct 20 2015, 07:57 AM) I would just go direct entry if offered....the other headache you will face is the uncertainty of matching....and possibility of match to Ireland or non smc recognized uni....or even oz.... I was told that if the student is unhappy about the matching, a semester can be deferred and rematched later on with higher priority or something like that. And then of course, there's the very-likely situation of not getting the offer from a UK uni

QUOTE(cckkpr @ Oct 21 2015, 09:00 AM) If its Glasgow, for 2 years its about 60k pounds for fees and it comes close to RM400k. Queens will be cheaper for clinical. Holy smokes that's 30k a year! Almost equivalent to clinical years!

Does anyone know how the matching to partner schools will be done? Would there be any weightage placed on a student's Pre-University results?

From the IMU site
"The matching process is carried out early in the fifth semester. It is computerised and completely impartial. The students state their choice of PMS in strict order of preference. The PMS also rank the students based on their academic performance, student attributes and involvement in co-curricular activities. The computerised programme gives 5 times greater weighting to the students’ choice over the PMS ranking of students."
How the heck does a computer judge co-curricular activities?
