even if that person scores 6A's for a levels? but i doubt that will happen..even it does..that student will be at oxbridge now...
muet is not accepted in monash btw...

only imu requires both..

other uni is ielets/muet/other simliar qualifications..
*
there is no mention about muet requirement, but msians still need to do 'lan subjects' in monash msia.........

and NO, someone who is crazy enough to attempt 6 principals and get a's for them at a-levels will not necessary be accepted into oxbridge.......they are ONLY interested in the main 3 principals relevant to the course applied for............and everyone applying will all have 3a's........it's the personal statement, the entrance test, and the interview that will determine who gets admitted.........someone with 3 a's and doing well in the other 3 components will get selected over someone with 6 a's and faring badly at the interview........

it is not a matter of 'rejecting' muet.........ie, monash and most ipts do not depend on the muet as a proof of english proficiency........

but mohe insist all ipt must have muet results of their students before they can graduate......so people takes muet to satisfy mohe requirements, NOT the uni's requirements..........

uk unis only want 3 principals........

nus wants 4 good principals for their critical courses, ie medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.........

we are talking about medicine........this is an imu thread.......

you are not supposed to graduate if you have not shown you have a muet cert.........doesn't matter if it is band 1.........

imu-pms students can ignore it because they do NOT graduate........ever..........from imu.........

many people took the muet requirement lightly, and those going off to pms often just ignore it, and nothing happens.......looks like they are making it serious now, by trying to block people going off to pms!.........

only 101 out of the cohort of 209 enter the undergraduate matching exercise.........to be matched to 101 pms places...........about 20 have already been matched to graduate entry pms earlier........the rest are bound for seremban.........

reviewing the matching, based on the choices people wrote, and their performances in eos 1-3, it does appear there are many contradictions in how the matching is done, contrary to what a computer matching based on the stated algorithm would have produced..........

so yes, it appears it is a lottery for many people..........and the sad thing is, there is no transparancy in how it was done, and there is no avenue for appeal............

generally, changing from pms to seremban is quite easy, imu will never refuse more money..........

it is the other way round that is difficult.......as the number of places in pms is very restricted.........

so if u get a PMS..but ur parents can't afford it..you have no choice but to go to seremban? cannot change PMS?
*
if you can't afford any pms med school, you can't afford ALL of them lah....

and yes, changing matching is near impossible.......otherwise 80% will want to change, as it appears only 20% got their 1st choice.......

i think all preceeding results are given to the pms, and the respective pms will decide what to use for, their ranking of students......

having said that, the results of matching suggest the official matching algorithm is not followed most of the time......so for the majority of people, it's very much a lottery.....

you are only allowed 1 sem in hotel accommodation, everybody have to move out, it at least gets you familiarised with the environment........you will find a suitable place by the 2nd sem normally...........

Hello there. I just got my sem 2 results for my alevels. (london modular). I just wanna ask do IMU accept AS results to give complimentary entrance into med school?

And i have heard alot from my friends and siblings that IMU is not good. But it have been there for so long, and i really want to enter some well known uni. Can any IMU medical students advise me on this. Please?

Thanks.  icon_question.gif

not all la.

i am referring to some of those who are academically unworthy..

IMU local places are only about 70.. the rest are all bound for PMS...hence there is not much tight control for the PMS intake...

correct me if i am wrong.  smile.gif

imu local has a licence to take in 100 per batch now, ie 200 a year.......

between 120-150 are pms students, but about 20 odd will be those on the pms-graduate entry stream, which means they stay back for another year to finish up BMedSc, and if they get 1st or 2nd upper, they are then matched to the graduate entry pms.....otherwise they join the seremban programme.....

there will be those good students who opted to go local, for usually financial reasons.....there will be those who failed to make into a pms, and will also join the local stream......

the cut off for dentistry is surprisingly lower than medicine........bbb compared to abb, so the places fills up rapidly, since there are only 50 slots for pds stream......

Looking at the number of A level students scoring A* and As, with that kind of entry requirement, no wonder the places are filled up so fast.

the criteria for entry is not how many a's you have, but how much $$$ your parents/sponsor have.......

there are lots of straight a's students, both from a-levels and stpm, who are interested, but lack $$$ to do it......

What can they do? Of about 90 non-malays students in UM medic for 2010/2011 only 13 are from STPM. So its not surprising that on top of borrowing from PTPTN, you HAVE to borrow from other financial institutions if you want to do medic in private colleges.
*
the reality is, most of the places in ipts med schools and places like russia, are filled by relatively mediocre students with money......while lots of poor cleverer students give up and do whatever course the ipta's throw at them........

such is the reality of msian education........

that's what happens when you make education a commodity based on business (and in msia's case, racially based 'affirmative' action) principles......

wait till they run healthcare on business principles as well..........you ain't seen nothing yet....

+1, but nowadays a lot of IMU students got sponsored
*
the sponsored students in imu have a tendency to flop in exams, more than private strudents, although many come with reasonable pre-u results.........would be interesting to find out why......
