Was in my office lift and a loser walked in. He was probably late 30s or early 40s, balding, and has a pot belly. Wearing office attire and guess what - has an AP watch and Hermès belt on display.

I won’t be surprised if this guy also drives a Beemer.

So, what’s up with these office rats’ fetish on AP watches, and Hermès belt? Is it something like an identification card for pale unhealthy and ugly office workers?

Most taukehs I know are fitness obsessed freaks who wear Fitbits/Apple Watch and informal attires to work. They usually keep their expensive watches at home or on their yacht as it is no longer the in thing to wear them.

I guess that’s why leaders trailblaze while salaryman follows..

I no longer own an AP watch. I sold it for an Apple Watch and a nice stereo system for my AV Room. Kept my Rolexes though..

You sure ori-ka? My AP closest to 120K and it only comes out during family occasions..overkill if wear to office when my CEO only wears a Seiko. Hermes, CD, LV belts for gayfags and Indon construction workers who go trolling at Starhill or Pavillon..

If originals, could be own company CEO and need blings to gain respect.
*
120k? Sure boh?

AP ROO can be purchased new at the moment for slightly less than 100k if on rubber strap. And 10k more if on hornback leather. Check the price of the Navy.

Pre 2015 (before GST), AP ROO’s can be purchased new for around RM69k on hornback alligator leather before they introduce the see though back versions.

Pre-owned? Even my best price for ROOC also at 118K down from 138K..off course cheaper ROO available but in the AP crowd, wearing cheap is like wearing a rollie.
*
Hey dude. You better check the prices again. Oak Offshores are going for between 98k to 108k at the Hour Glass.

Also, closed back offshores brand new before GST was only 69k. The price increased drastically over the past 3 years due to the weakened ringgit and GST.

When did you purchase yours? Year 2025?

The problem is not with the AP watch or Hermes belt. It's the balding head and pot belly lol. If lengzai and nice body like uncle Aaron Kwok, Seiko and Uniqlo belt still look like

winner.
*
It’s the combination of fugliness and overcompensation for the lack of good genes that makes most office rats with AP and Hermès belt losers.

And I am seeing probably a lot of them replying to this thread as it hits too close to home for them.

It just looks so funny. I had to stifle a laugh when I saw him today. Looks so pathetic that I felt a bit sorry for him.

It didn’t help that he has that smug look on his face while he is one step away from having a stroke at age 39 due to his excessive drinking and a lack of exercise..

Kesian sohai. Thank you for highlighting earlier ask me to do a back check.
Now let me direct you to the page itself.

Quite many royal oak offshore chrono sia.

https://www.audemarspiguet.com/en/watch-bro...p-by=collection
*
You are definitely not a collector.

I am wondering if you know what are Pandas, Volcanoes and Bumblebees?

No self respecting AP owner would call the Chronograph ROOC. It’s ROC for the chronograph version, RO for the date and time version and ROO for the offshore chronograph version.

https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/audemars-...ate-introducing

Makes me wonder if you really own an AP or not..

lol most here used to wear fitbits and apple watches, then they got banned at work, so now all the Rolexes, APs and VCs come out already.

Still no Hermes belts though, we mostly wear thick ass rigger belts or if leather, R.M Williams.

Either way, staff here are also into fitness a lot.

Mods are different lah. You guys don’t play by the same rules.

I don't really get the obsession with AP.
*
Neither do I but I am just posting what I have observed.

A bunch of pale flabby men with oversized AP watches and a belt buckle in the shape of an oversized H that pokes into their nether regions like a mini guillotine.

Unless you're working on an LNG plant build, it isn't that big of an issue.....

The Chevron guys on my last job had nice watches, they never talked about them, it was more of a conversation starter between watch people and a good icebreaker.
*
Pity that the same can’t be said of bankers and lawyers.

They tend to shove their AP watches and Beemers in your face..

Pop open a bottle of first growth 1994 Bordeaux also need to post on Facebook..

How I wish I was working in the O&G industry instead..

I've got a beemer, but I mostly spend my time voiding it's warranty via haphazard mods and taking uber lol

Make no mistake, the paycheques here will make bankers and lawyers blush and these guys think italian supercars are toys.

But there's a certain kind of camaraderie, we all wear the same fireproof uniform with boots, the same shitty hardhad, we're all expected to follow the rules and unlike lawyers and bankers if someone's ass is on fire we run towards the fire, not away.

From the lowliest cleaner to the client PM, we're all family.

Yup. I have heard it through the grapevines that drillers earn an average of $1000 per day when they are working offshore. And I am talking USD here.

I also heard that helicopter rides are now reserved for VIPs and the engineers have to go by boat to offshore rigs now? I tend to get seasick so maybe I am not cut out to work in O&G.

You guys should rightfully be highly paid as the work is dangerous. Its like risking your life in a highly flammable environment every single day when you are offshore even when you are sleeping.

But recently, I heard that Carigali is going to start drilling again due to the decent oil prices so it should be good news for our economy as we are quite oil dependant.

Drillers about 1750 USD Per day. Engineers start at about 1000 to 2500 depending on seniority. Managers....... 100k a month after tax was standard on the Gorgon project for onshore. That's without family subsidy package included.

Last I went offshore (I work on the land plant now), we still did 100 percent heli for everyone. I get seasick sometimes, but I'm mostly based on the onshore facilities these days.

Not sure about Carigali as I work in Australistan, but there have been major moves to restart drilling works here, so things must be looking up. I think....
*
Wow. That sort of pay grade puts most senior bankers and economist to shame.

I always knew that the O&G industry pays well but I didn’t know that you guys were that well paid.

Thanks for the insight.

I don’t mind people wearing luxury watches but I hate posers who feel the need to show them off by shoving it into your face at any given opportunity.

People who paid $1million in cash for a serviced apartment in the city also belum show off and you have these idiots who have a net-worth of less than 1 million ringgit and a 5 figure credit card debt with a 9 year car loan wearing a smug look on their face while flashing their AP watches.
