Like some ppl,

the POÄNG chair is very captivating

user posted image

and with mine that have weathered my butt for almost 7 years

its start to show its age

with CNY spring cleaning in gear

sprucing up is needed, the seat have bore the final brunt of my big butt
and cave in

so 1st step, take apart

user posted image

used some tools to remove the godawful lots of staples

user posted image

your arms will "love" you for it

Then, find some suitable replacements

user posted image

seen here is 2" shipping straps cut to length
(front-back - 63cm x 9 pcs, left-right - 71cm x 7 pcs)

or just buy tonnes of Guitar straps whistling.gif

some staples to the end

Tips: cut a bit of straps, and test staples on some similar wood

Badabing, bada boom

you might saw the two extra strap

Mine is still in good condition...frame still ok. Using since 2006. Changed the cushion twice. Still comfy. Bought mine with the leg rest. Nice.

I would also advise you to oil the wood. Baby oil works too if you don't have wood oil.

i used rubber mallet once to try push the tightening part, suffice to say it broke the table leg in a couple of hits >.>

Yes, sand it and wipe it with wet tissue to remove most of the grime.

Then have a rag drop a few drops of baby oil and wipe to a shine.

Yes.

I find it easier to maintain leather sofa than fabric. Just wipe or vacuum. Fabric need to remove, wash, dry, put back. So much hassle.

Some more my dog stay indoors. Leather sofa and chairs easier to take care.

Sorry if I misled some people here rolleyes.gif

you guys must think my staples is these puny kind
user posted image

but really, to do this, you have to have at least one of this
user posted image

not exactly the same level here
user posted image

get one with at least 8mm length
the original is 8~10mm but theirs is coarser type
so thats why I double up on the tacks, where as the original IKEA uses a single row to hold onto the wood

QUOTE(~Sherlock~ @ Feb 4 2018, 01:06 PM)

*
well, the investment here is the staples.
the straps is from the store rubbish area
the stapler was a broken one thrown away that repair back to usable state

the money saving I would guess ~RM 100 at least

plus as kurangak said
there is the joy of able to repair something with ones own hand
that buying replacement cant really fill

sitting or back area
you say, start to break apart
if the connector still good, just the middle part start to crack, the find a length of wood, or metal, simialr sized
and use cable ties to support the braking wood,

if broken, then either DIY anotherpiece or buy new

It's Culture here that ppl dint DIY.  Unlike westerners, they will DIY.  Partly because repair man there charges expensive.  Unlike here, consider cheap.

That's why big hardware shops like ACE you seldom see many ppl.

Westerners change their furniture like changing underwear.

Westerners DIY for fun. They love to cut their iPhoneX into half.
They go to hardware shop to get the tools they need.

What talking you? You don't simply whack.

You know mostly now people stay in apart/condo/flat.

How to place a table saw, bench drill, planar, welder... Even a terrace house also difficult.

You can't continue to dream big. Only limited with the space.

Yes, there is always another way. Just pay for it. Why so susah DIY.

Is it normal for the chair to creak upon assembly? I bought one last week, assembled it, ensured all the screws are tights, but still creaks when sitting or getting up.
